    Have a couple Orcas from 2007. A red one and white one. Aero as a brick but still looks amazing because of all the unique tube shapes! If I ever see an orange Euskatel model from 2007+ I’ll buy another!

  • @hallisoft1926

    It is an interesting bike and I like the idea of having the add-on tool box. The aero claims only relate to the top of the range model fitted with Shimano wheels. How much of this translates to bikes with lower spec components we don't know.
    Trek have used the two piece bar and stem with integrated cables for some time. But the issue is cost at around US $630 for bar and stem, and they are very difficult to find. Orbea do seem to have an advantage here because I think you can specify stem length and bar width when ordering.

    • @waynosfotos
      @waynosfotos  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, i do feel there is issues with integrated stems, when consumers want to get a set combination or change bars it becomes problematic.
      It has also been highlighted that with some designs it wears the hydraulic hoses and some manufacturers specify 12 monthly inspections for wear and damage.

  • @tobycolin6271
    @tobycolin6271 Před 2 lety +2

    The manufacturers have there chance to build true aero road bikes in triathlon. They could build a whole series of road delta frame bikes and then the customer could choose aero delta (Cervelo px), uci aero, or no aero.

    I think it's always better to look good than to feel good! I think it's just a good looking frame....I like that the top bar is parallel with the ground as opposed to sloping down towards the seat. I also wish F1 cars would make their HALO's parallel with the chassis/ground as opposed to sloping down in the back towards the driver....I think it would look better. I also wish girls would trim their long painted nails that make their hands look like claws and make them short painted nails....a much classier look. I don't ride bikes and know nothing about them except I like the looks of them. I also enjoy watching your channel and listening to the technical explanations. Thanks.

  • @mattshane8409
    @mattshane8409 Před 2 lety +1

    Gasp, a disk brake bike featured on your channel!?! Just kidding... First off, that's a cool looking bike. I really like the common sense adjustable seat post clamp and frankly I'm surprised I haven't seen this before. Not 100% sure about their take on the handle bars though. Setting aside some of the "you must be able to ride at least XXX fast to see the aero benefit" argument, I'm not sure how raising the handlebars and reducing reach fits into that scenereo. Aero bikes frankly are for flexible people. If you can't get into that position you're probably better off and will be more comfortable and therefore faster on something else. If you can get into that position and want to go faster slam your stem and go with a long reach... There's your 15 watts right there!

  • @mickchaganis6607
    @mickchaganis6607 Před 2 lety +1

    Forget the aero claims, I think the adjustability is the best thing. Just for you information, my new build, Boardman Air Elite TT has a reversable seat post, think it changes the angle by around 3 degrees.

  • @shibaburn7725
    @shibaburn7725 Před 2 lety

    Manufacturer comparisons are pretty much always bogus and gamed, but I think it's a good looking frame and should be quite aerodynamic. It's got most of the aero optimizations. On the downside, the bike is quite porky. But it's not as outrageously priced as Specialized, etc. Serviceability should be like most of the other hidden cable bikes, which is to say pretty crappy, but somewhat alleviated by wireless electronic shifting if you are willing to shell out the $$$. Is it a standard 31.8 mm handlebar clamp?

    • @yonglingng5640
      @yonglingng5640 Před 2 lety

      I remember it is, so you're able to run any handlebar you like. I like how they route the shift and brake lines underneath the stem.

  • @aerobrain2001
    @aerobrain2001 Před 2 lety

    The handlebar/stem thing is nothing new. Trek, Specialized and Colnago are three off the top of my head that have fully internal cables with separate bar and stem.. Got a feeling Cannondale do as well (don't quote me on that).

    • @yonglingng5640
      @yonglingng5640 Před 2 lety

      As long as the shift and brake lines are routed under the stem and not in it on a two-piece cockpit, I'm happy. It just needs to hide from the wind, not the mechanic.
      And yes, Cannondale manufactures two-piece cockpits for the SuperSix EVO and SystemSix.

    If it's not UCI approved. What quality standards is it meeting ?.

    • @waynosfotos
      @waynosfotos  Před 2 lety +5

      Just the tool box is not UCI compliant. It can be removed

    • @31.8mm
      @31.8mm Před 2 lety +1

      i think UCI approved mean so the bike are allowed to be used in official races, not purely a quality standards like we find in helmets.
      so the design of the bike, weight, setup, etc., should meet the UCI rules. it's for race safety and sportsmanship stuff (not relying too much on the bike rather the athletes capabilities), so a bike without UCI approved doesn't mean bad quality it just mean so the bike couldn't be use for official races, more likely because it has unfair advantages or could be dangerous in race situations.

      @jakomeister8159 Před 2 lety +1

      The only problem is that this bike is used in pro peleton, we saw it in the vuelta, and there are just two screw to disassemble the whole box. So there is a big reason why the didn’t go all out on that bike. I think the bike is more looked on towards a storage compartment while training rather than aero optimization.

    • @bitchoflivingblah
      @bitchoflivingblah Před 2 lety +2

      Testing bike aerodynamics is done under controlled conditions i.e. in a wind tunnel or velodrome. Otherwise you wouldn't get any reliable data.
      So it's not bullshit. As Wayne points out the debatable aspects of their claims are what they have compared the new bike to.

    • @Circial
      @Circial Před 2 lety +1

      It's at 50km/h. To ride at that speed you need to push 500 to 600 watts into the pedals. So saving 28 watts suddenly isn't that much anymore. It probably doesn't save you 28 watts in reality but I think it's been proven by a lot of tests that an aero-bike makes you go 1 to 2 km/h faster for the same energy.

    • @bitchoflivingblah
      @bitchoflivingblah Před 2 lety

      @@Circial well dan bigham can't push 500-600W for 1 hour but he did manage 54.474kph average for an hour yesterday, and saved a heck of a lot of watts by aero gains, i'd say at least 150W most of which was through optimisation of body position, but the bike setup is just as important, here the speed difference in breaking the record was 0.197kph.
      If dan bigham had an extra 2kph he would have beaten the all-time record by a kilometre !!

    • @Circial
      @Circial Před 2 lety

      @@bitchoflivingblah what are you even saying? thanks to all of his equipment, dan didn't just gain 1 to 2 km/h, he probably gained way more
      my point was more that this marketing claim could very well be true. i remember a year ago seeing some guy on yt ride the same distance with his fancy madone and some aluminum road bike at the same power and he went like 2 km/h faster on the fancy madone.

    • @bitchoflivingblah
      @bitchoflivingblah Před 2 lety

      @@Circial if you read my reply i did say that most of the gains were through optimisation of body position which reduced his wattage enough for him to maintain 55kph. And, that at the top end of the sport 1-2kph is the difference between success and failure, and in dan bigham's case it was a 1/10 of that.
      if your argument is that 1-2kph is insignificant then i gave you concrete proof that it isn't.

  • @tobycolin6271
    @tobycolin6271 Před 2 lety

    The ultimate in stupidity an average aero bike without the aero fairings disguised as a bottle and tool box removed, in uci race trim I bet it’s no more than 3 watts. If you want the ultimate aero bikes we should get Cervelo to produce a px road for the aero boys that want the fastest aero bike you cant race.

    Yet another bike designed for wider wheels and tyres. I suspect the real reason for this is again because without them it would be un rideable. Aero seatposts have little to no compliance.

  • @Sills71
    @Sills71 Před 2 lety +6

    Come on... Hambini (and any real engineer that specializes in aerodynamics) will tell you that any UCI legal frame makes ZERO difference in real world aero performance on the road. Especially for non-pros... Reasons- The frame contributes so little to drag that any improvement would be tiny... the speeds are too slow for any improvement to be realized... and the biggest reason DIRTY AIR... on the road there is almost always some wind that is not coming from directly in front of or directly behind the rider, there are other riders that create disturbance in the air... even if the rider was riding fast enough, directly into the wind or with no wind at all, with no other riders around (how often does that happen?) any movement of the bike would negate most of or all of any (still very small) aero advantage. Aero bikes are a complete scam. They are hideous looking, overpriced, deceptively marketed, hard to work on, carbon crap.

    • @Xarx42
      @Xarx42 Před 2 lety +1

      I disagree. GCN for example made a couple of videos where Simon (Si) with a time trial bike was able to beat even several of the other cyclist who were driving together. But if thats not enough: Juan Jose used it already in pro races in Spain this summre. And why would professional cyclists take a heavier bike (the one Juan used was 7,8 kg) if the aerodynamics dont matter?
      But sure, if it matters for non professional cyclists is a different story and probably a very subjective one ^^. Looks cool to me nonetheless :P.
