  • The York Regional Police Road Safety Bureau is committed to its ongoing efforts to combat stunt driving and street racing as part of Project ERASE and recently initiated two traffic stops that led to charges, licence suspensions and vehicles being impounded.
On Sunday, August 6, 2023, at 3:20 p.m., an officer observed a black BMW driving at a high rate of speed in the area of Major Mackenzie Drive West and Pine Valley Drive in the City of Vaughan. The vehicle reached a top speed of 162 kilometers per hour, while in a 60 zone. The driver was stopped and his licence was suspended for 30 days, his vehicle was impounded for 14 days and he was charged with Speeding and Stunt Driving.
Project ERASE is an awareness and enforcement campaign operated jointly by police services across Ontario, in partnership with the Government of Ontario, with the goal of eliminating street racing, stunt driving and other high-risk driving behaviours.
Aggressive driving and street racing are dangerous, unlawful activities which put innocent people at risk of injury or death. The real finish line may be court, fines, jail, vehicle seizure, a loss of driving privileges or even worse, the hospital or the morgue.
Throughout the summer season as part of Project ERASE, the York Regional Police helicopter Air2, will continue to work with officers on the ground, watching for vehicles staging to race, vehicles travelling at excessive rates of speed and vehicles that do not meet safety standards. Street racers put themselves and unsuspecting road users at risk of death or serious injury when they choose to disobey traffic laws and drive without due care and control and with a disregard for public safety.
Call 9-1-1 if you see dangerous driving practices that could cause personal injury or loss of life. When contacting police, try to note the vehicle’s location, direction of travel, make, model, licence plate number and driver’s description.
This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police Road Safety Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext.7703, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, or leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips.com

Well if that was my son I would be seriously disapointed and take his driving privilages away. He would have to eiter take the bus, an uber (with his own money), walk, or have his friends pick him up. Until for the next 6 years when the family car insurance starts to return to normal.

There's no victim, what's the crime, aside from generating revenue for the state, how about you crack down on actual crime which is rampant. Statistically speaking speeding isn't the issue, lack of competence is, I've had morons who must have bought their license try to merge into me on the highway when I was next to them, because they were too distracted by their phones. Crack down on drunk drivers, and real crime.

This can be a potential accident and I'm glad the cop prevented it. 70 on a 60? Sure. But more than doubled that endangers others - especially because people can't predict your movement because of the spontaneous speed? Use your brain. This issue is a no brainer. You make it sound like they're not trying to tackle DUI's.

Stunt driving is a absolutely stupid charge and name for speeding . Look the definition up, stunt drivings definition has nothing to do with speeding. Number 2 Innocent until proven Guilty in the court of law, but yet they take your car right there on spot , take your license right on the spot , so how does that equate to , Innocent until proven Guilty in the court of law. You should not loose anything until proven guilty in the court of law. Why because 98% of people that fight this charge gets it thrown out . But yet you spend how much on the impound gettng your car out . Getting your license reactivated and your insurance has gone sky high and mean while the charge was thrown out. Its all about money thats all these pigs car about . So they get the impound money in which is crazy . So the real conclusion is , guilty until proven innocent ,which totally goes against our rights . And thats what every charge now seens like .

Agreed i might also add, what sort of stupid law strands you in the middle of the road. What if this is Sudbury and you live in Toronto? License suspension fine, fees fine. Wtf is an impound fee, you have to pay to park your vehicle. Long story short, from experience, dont go above 40 on highway and not over 20-30 on normal streets/roads.
