Little tip for those that are going to do this on jack stands. Remove the battery and the battery box. There is like 7 or so 10mm bolts holding a panel in place that blocks the battery from the engine. Take them out and remove the panel. Take that out will make your life SOOOOOOOO much easier and save you hours fighting with trying to tighten up the passenger side studs and nuts. The driver side, all of the top nuts/studs can be reached from the top reaching in where the air box would be. Just finished doing my 3rd set of headers on s550's. This time it was finally my own set. 4.5 hours start to finish.
Yes you are absolutely correct! Ironically on my 4th install is where I learned this after doing this on an S197. Thanks for the tip!
I removed the 7 bolts and can’t get that panel out. Is there anything else I have to remove to get it out?
@@Tstre3tz if I remember right, it was kinda stuck in there, like it was 2 way taped or glued. Give it a tug and it should rip right out
Nice!! I'm going to try to install my headers again this weekend. I gave it an small attempt last weekend and had trouble removing the top nuts/studs.
After taking off the battery section, are all the top passenger side nuts/studs reachable from the top? When I looked down from the top, the AC line and the part of the header that runs parallel to it was pretty tight. Assume I have to jack up the engine more to widen that?
Thanks!!
@@bdragonomega yea, undoing the engine mounts and lifting the engine helps a lot and the top bolts are a lot easier to get to when the battery cover is taken out. Its still a bitch, but just a little one lol
Great video man, I think I learned enough from your video to be comfortable with installing my headers on my own. Thanks man
Kumar Vir thanks man!!!
Thanks for the video and showing the tools you used. I'm going to give it another attempt this weekend!
Absolutely! Good luck!
Great video man this helps me decide to buy headers or not. I don't have a lift and was kind of scared to do it on stands but i see its do able now.
nanimalanimal that’s awesome! I’m glad this was able to help you out!!
Hey man! Just a question. Did you have to remove all or any of the manifold studs on the driver side? Thanks!
Hey dude! So on the drivers side it slides right out!
Question. I had my headers installed by a shop 4 hours away. I’ve got about 500 miles on it and love them. Do I need to re-torque the bolts? Can you get to most of them to check the torque or is that the hard part? Don’t really wanna drive all the way back to the shop
For majority of them you may be able to reach. As for the other bolts it’s a real pain to get to
Did you raise/support the engine by placing a wood block on the plastic oil pan?
I put a jack right where the transmission meets the engine. I do that for all my installs because it takes up much less space then jacking from the oil pan
I did Xforce 1 7/8 LONG TUBE HEADERS with sr xpipe and roush axle back that was already installed before the headers and man was it loud, to loud for neighbors so I took out the xpipe and installed borla high flow resonator and now its alot more tolerable
Unfiltered Dad haha dude that setup must’ve been obnoxious 😂
@@BrandonChinn uploading vid now, the noise in the background it a wrx reving at me.
Unfiltered Dad haha okay sweet!
Hey man hope you're still answering questions & hope this isn't a dumb one. When you were working on the passenger side manifold and had to jack up/lower the engine in order to remove the studs and screw in the new bolts, did you only remove the passenger side motor mount or did you remove the driver side as well to have the engine being fully supported by the jack? I'm on the fence about installing headers on jack stands on my own but I'm too cheap to pay somebody else lol fml.
Hey dude! Not a stupid question at all! So both motor mounts get disconnected. You can MAYBE get away without disconnecting but it takes about 10 min to disconnect and makes your life so much easier. The engine will be fully supported by a Jack at that point allowing you to move the engine how you want
@@BrandonChinn Hell yeah thanks for the reply man! I figured you would remove both of them but just wanted to make sure.
@@Viper3870750 yes sir! If you need help or have any questions just lmk! Or shoot me a message on instagram @BrandonChin
Where you get the tailight tint from i heard american muscle and anchor room are bad 👀
Jaay D5oh they are bad but those were the only options so I went with anchor room 😂
You do installs on other cars too? If so how much for a header install? I live in central Florida and I was going to do the install myself but willing to pay someone else.
Armani yes I do installs! Shoot my a DM @BrandonChin on IG
Brandon Chin Will do! Thanks
Great vid 👌. Can’t wait to put my headers on my new 19. What cat back do you have ? No cats im assuming ? 👍🏼👍🏼
5abivt I wish people would read descriptions before asking questions 🤣
davidmarkuson doesn’t matter anyways. My 19 Bullitt got the piston slap /knock after 2k miles . Got rid of it traded for an M4 😒
5abivt damn really???
DUDE! What did you use to connect the headers to the Borla? I am missing mid-pipe I think, I have like 20 inches of missing exhaust FFS! :O
Which headers did you install and which exhaust do you have?
Do me on IG and send a pic
@@BrandonChinn Joi_5.0 IG
Since it’s very tight to tight all the manifold bolt back on , did you reused the same ones or others
I reused only one bolt and that was the bolt on the passenger side, bottom row, closest to the front of the vehicle. Other than that I was able to get all the other bolts in. if you raise and lower the engine to whichever is easiest for you, you should be able to get the rest of the bolts in
Brandon Chin I raised it all the way maybe lower it will do and thanks man
Wait I meant studs ? Did you reused them or shorter ones
@@neglalwa777 I reused one stud and one bolt to align the header
You can’t start a mustang in track or sport mode. Even if you hit accessory and out it in track mode it always defaults to normal. You can eat int fat in quiet but otherwise it’s always normal. Car sounds great. My 2019 with exact same x pipe and active exhaust gets kooks installed next week. Soo fricken excited lol..
Unfortunately you can’t but I had my mode setup so I flipped a switch and it opened it to track so that made it easy. You’re going to love your car after the headers are in!
How did you remove the Motor mounts to get to the headers?
There's 4 bolts that hold in the mounts on the motor. Once you remove those 4 bolts the mount should fall off the engine
Did you have any problems the the o2 sensors throwing check engine light codes? Hope you’re still answering🙏🏾
Hey! Yea the sensors will throw codes. You can either get a tune to fix it or get sensors extenders!
@@BrandonChinn Thanks man I really appreciate it
And just to clarify how you went about it, when you got yours tuned it fixed the code issue?
@@Brandon39073 at the time of this install I got a tune that Cleared. Currently, I’d be running O2 sensor spacers
Still doing installs?
How did the X pipe connect to the stock active? Do we buy a reducer?
Thanks man for the video.
JG I had the mid resonator cut out and replaced with an Xpipe in its place
@@BrandonChinn Ooh, so it's welded in?
@@Evoevo951 Yes sir!
@@BrandonChinn 2.75 reducer?
JG the stock exhaust is 2.5” piping so i had a 2.5” x pipe welded in
How do you get the car to start in Track mode? My bullitt will only start in normal or quite if i have it set.
MaddawgLyfe unfortunately there is no way to start the vehicle in track mode without custom tuning the valve controls in the ECU
@@BrandonChinn i have to look at my tune file lol car sounds damn good
MaddawgLyfe it may require more then just a custom tune. You may have to find someone who can directly access that file to edit the settings. Most email tune companies probably wouldn’t attempt that. And thank you lol
You can change your mode before starting the car
awesome video dope car. I did a install video on a 2017 GT same headers. Doing one on a 2019 soon
Trippin Windshields thanks bro! I’ll check out your channel!
Brandon Chin what manifold bolt did you used when you was putting everything back on
Yo I started watching one of your video and then started watching the rest. Sorry to hear about the accident you had last year,. How much did you pay for the kooks catted headers? I would like to speak to you if you don’t mind
All good man! Shoot me a DM. I paid $1400 for the headers in 2016
@@BrandonChinn lol how do you DM in youtube
@@soulja4187 lol Instagram or you can email as well 😎 @BrandonChin or BrandonChin0702@gmail
How long did it take to put on?
pauL ramos took me about 6-7 hours doing it alone
Any CELs and did you need a tune after?
A tune is not needed, but HIGHLY recommended, also without the tune you will get a check engine light most likely. You'll be having a lot more exhaust flow then you will intake which may cause the car to stall in some cases.
Brandon Chin I know this videos old but if I hit relearn button on ngauge is that a tune?
Did you say that you couldn’t get one of the bolts back 8n ?
You are able to, but it’s so hard to get to I usually leave the stud on and just take off the bolt. The stud that I leave is what I use to align the headers when putting it on
@@BrandonChinn so do you just put a nut onto the stud that you left in ?
@@robelliott3049 yes
Brooo she sounds sooo good but next time a headphone warning would be nice 🤣
Thanks man!!!! Lol i edit without headphones so ill note for next time lmao
You put the stands on the pinch welds, yeah?
English2Elvish yes anywhere on the frame will do. I use the pinch welds because I find that gives me the most room
@@BrandonChinn Awesome / Fair enough yeah. I still get a bit wigged out thinking the whole car is resting on that "thin edge" but lol but here goes nothing! Parts (including Kooks Headers) are going to be here soon, can't wait despite me n my cousin will be doing off of stands. :D
English2Elvish just remember the weight of the car is split up between four jack stands as well so not one jack is supporting the weight
@@BrandonChinn Haha, yes indeed. Bit of a mind-anxiety to accept n get over :P Keep ya posted on how it all goes! :D (should be doing in November / December).
English2Elvish all good man! Lmk how it goes! I wanna hear some sound clips 😎
THIS is what i was looking for! Doing the same (soon) - gulp! :S
English2Elvish you got this! Good luck!
@@BrandonChinn Installing a bunch of stuff all at once over this winter, but yup... just have jack stands! Just got home a few days ago with a 2020 PP2 ^-^
English2Elvish congrats man! If you need any help or anything you know where to find me!
What x pipe are you running?
Exhaust shop made it, cost me $55 lol. I highly recommend doing that compared to these overpriced x-pipes sold by these companies. Not worth it
Brandon Chin lmao to late for that. I already have a steeda x pipe but I’m curious as to the headers connected directly to the x pipe since some come in different sizes.
@@christopherrojas2396 No they'll connect directly to it no problem! Easy plug and play fitment!
Whats up boss looking to get some eibach springs on my 2015 s550 installed im located in Orlando how much would be to get them installed and where you located? Thanks for any info.
Hey man! Charge $150 for spring install located in lake Mary. If you have IG shoot me a Dm @Brandonchin
@@BrandonChinn was so close to getting long tubes then i was told it voids the warranty. sounds awesome man.
Sean hey dude! Yes it does void engine warranty but some dealers maybe overlook it depending on the problem. If you’re concerned about warranty I’d just play it safe
I have an 18 with active exhaust and a x pipe. Can you tell a huge sound difference with the long tube headers?
It is an EXTREME difference with the headers! I have a video when I had my x pipe put in with my active mufflers, and the headers are a night and day difference!
So it’s worth the money then?
@@LeviLoden23 Yes for power and for sounds 100%!
With your tune on it have you had any issues with the car?
Levi Etris no issues at all! Car runs beautifully with the new tune on it!
I want to to this but with h pipe
You should! It’ll take out the rasp a bit and give it a deeper tone
@@BrandonChinn do you think I’ll get drone with that setup?
@@nozopoke1782 Depends on what exhaust you plan to go with. Generally with headers you'll get atleast a little bit of drone but some exhausts definitely help limit the amount of drone youll hear in the cabin
@@BrandonChinn I’m planning to go cat-less headers still undecided on the brand or size with probably a steeda h pipe and leaving the rest stock (active exhaust)
@@nozopoke1782 then you should be good. On my setup I left the stock catback and I had drone but it was minimal with the valves opened
No tune??
No tune required for headers, but Highly recommended. I installed the tune I believe the next day if not 2 days later after putting in the headers
@@BrandonChinn wondering because I am getting ready to do the same thing.. so not required but recommended..
@@danielthomas5872 Yes definitely recommended but the tune isn't necessarily required. If you have a manual it will effect it more then an auto and you'll be able to see the difference when driving
@@BrandonChinn i have a 2019 RS3, auto, think it will require a tune?
@@danielthomas5872 Like i said the car should run okay, but you might notice a lag sometimes in throttle response or hesitation on WOT, but each vehicle is different so you might be okay, but nothing wrong with adding on the tune of course
