  • The only way into the world’s most exclusive club is to solve a challenge from the Demon of Reason. Can you get into the party?
    --
    Once a year, thousands of logicians descend into the desert for Learning Man. At the center of that gathering is the world’s most exclusive club, where under the full moon the annual logician’s rave takes place. The entry is guarded by the Demon of Reason, and the only way in is to solve one of his dastardly challenges. Can you get into the rave? Edwin Meyer shows how.

    This was quite an interesting riddle. Similar to previous riddles, but with the twist that you don't know before hand which colors are available. Fortunately, we have rule 5 which states that it is possible for everyone to figure out what their mask color is, which is really the key to solving this riddle. If this rule weren't included, then it would have been completely impossible. Before solving riddles I like to play around with smaller easier cases. If there was only one person, then that person had to guess the color of their mask from the whole spectrum of colors. If there were two people they could either have the same color masks or different color masks. If they were different, then it would be impossible to guess for the same reason as when you do this with a single person. So you can eliminate that possibility, which means both masks have to be the same color. This is something they can guess in the first round. So in the riddle there are four people in the first round that guess the color of their mask, which means that each person saw someone with a mask color nobody else had, which meant they were wearing that mask color too. So there were two groups of two people with the same color masks in the first round. The second round we get a single group of three people all wearing red masks. Why? Because all three saw that the other two were not leaving in the first round, meaning they both didn't see one but two red masks. And the other red mask they saw was yours. So at the end of the second round seven people left with three differently colored masks. The third round nobody leaves because everyone is seeing more than three of the same color masks for every mask color. In the fourth round five people leave for every mask color that leaves which is said to be at least two. So at least ten people leave in that round. This means that at most six people are left for the fifth round. None of those final six could have left in the fourth round, because then one person would remain for the fifth round. It is also impossible that they leave at a later round, because each round one more person leaves per mask color and in the sixth round this means seven people. So the final six people had to leave with a single mask color during the fifth round.
    TLDR: 6

  • @mindlessfury
    @mindlessfury Před 2 lety +9

    There is an error in this puzzle. On the second day, when two sets realize that it's their day to go up, neither of the sets would be able to figure out which color their mask was, since there are multiple sets. They would have to say something like "I'm either blank or blank" Which is implicitly not allowed, since if it was you could walk up and say all the mask colors you saw on the first day, and say "im definitely one of these"

    • @clemente3966
      @clemente3966 Před 2 lety

      Let's say you're in set1, and can see all of set 2.
      At the first bell, you see the two others of set 1 not going in, so you know there's at least a 3rd person or else those two would have gone in already.
      Now, you would be hesitating between 1 or 2 for yourself. If you were to think you have 2, and then looked around to find a 3rd person for 1, you wouldn't find anyone, thus letting set 1 with two people only, which is proven impossible at this point. Thus you can deduce that you don't have 2. 1 is the only remaining option, so you deduce you have 1.

  • @waterinamelon
    @waterinamelon Před 3 lety +3

    The riddle isn't hard when you know there are pairs. I'm not convinced it is solvable unless you're given this fact. I was stuck questioning whether the premise of the riddle is possible.
    In the riddle, the logicians are able to "deduce" that there must be one other color of the same kind or it is impossible to determine what colors to choose from. Is this true?
    I assumed a simplified scenario with two logicians. Each only sees one color and it is "logically possible" to determine each other's color. I concluded that this is a paradox. The only conclusion each logician can make is that the colors has to be *related in some way*. They could be the same. They could be complimentary colors. They could be inverses. How are the logicians supposed to know that the way they are related is that they're the same? If they can't, the premise of the problem doesn't work. They need more information. This creates a paradox because we are told that it is "logically possible" when it isn't.

    "the masks are distributed in such a way that it will eventually be possible for everyone to figure out their mask color through logic alone, and everyone is aware of this"
    That's such a vague rule. And yet from that I'm supposed to deduce that there aren't any unique mask colors among the crowd. I understand that just giving away "there aren't any unique colored masks among them" would make things too obvious, but the way it's worded could mean anything. Maybe the remaining masks are arranged in such a way that you can you can safely guess your mask fits a pattern. Yeah that wouldn't ACTUALLY be logically sound, but it's not like riddles on this channel were immune to that kind of logic before.
