Someone has tripped the magical alarms in the Element Temple. When you and the other monks arrive on the scene, you know you have a disaster on your hands. Four young apprentices broke into the temple’s inner chamber to steal the sacred element crystals. But when the alarm went off they panicked, and each of them swallowed a crystal. Can you determine who ate which crystal? Alex Gendler shows how.

fun fact I initially assumed he was telling the truth (because not knowing what happened is extremely relatable) so when I started to solve the riddle on my own and I immediately got the right answer

The first time, the punishment was death... or they ate fragments of the crystals... or these aren't the only crystals of this kind in existence. I'm leaning toward the third one, but I'm hoping the first was the case :)

This is my first time solving a TED riddle, pretty proud of myself, ngl. But looking back, I just wasted 20 minutes doing this instead of working...

@@gumbitoicic9977 I wrote it all out in a Word document, including my working out, and then put it in a table similar to the one in the video. That took twenty minutes. So it’s possible to take quite a while solving the riddles.

Also, the riddle is a fun one. Too bad I mixed up what Rikku and Sumi said in my first attempt(I thought Sumi said Rikku ate the fire crystal and Rikku said Bella ate the water crystal), but I got it next!

This is the only puzzle I've managed to solve! I gave up at first, until the "trial and error" part. I just assumed S was saying the truth - but there was no scenario she could be. So I put her as Fire, but things didn't click. I switched her to Air, then I can't recall how but using testing different elements down the row helped.

Just ask each apprentice what their name is. Then you can figure out who must lie and who must tell the truth, and from there you can ask who ate which crystal!

Some people have suggested something similar for the temple riddle, but it wouldn't work for that because it wasn't definite that the cursed students would lie

Ladies and gentlemen, it's my greatest pleasure to tell you this is the first Ted-ED riddle I've ever solved by now! I guess starting working out is already sharpening my mind.
P.S. I just heard the final remark about the riddle being elemental (so much for "sharpening my mind" 😂). Make no mistake, it MAY be easy for somebody with a solid knowledge of rhetoric and maths, but the fact that many people still haven't figured it out means that it can still prove a challenge.

Just ask who ate a crystal and two would like say that they didn’t two wouldnt and then ask the earth and water crystal eaters which crystal they ate and contain them both. Do the same with the fire and air crystal and reverse their answers and boom easy

For one in my life, I FINALLY not only finished, but correctly answered a Ted-Ed riddle. Sometimes I even impress myself.
