    That ending of Black Adder goes fourth gets me every time. For those last few moments all the comedy and giggles get dropped. It's gut wrenching.

      Me too. I grew up in Jersey, in the UK. The island was occupied by the Germans during WW2 for over five years. I am certain if it hadn't been for men like these, I would never have even been born. 😒

    I think you played it in the best way you could lads. Probably most people when they knew you were doing this series wanted to see your reaction to that final moving scene. It's often cited as the most iconic scene to end any programme in British tv history, not just the comedy genre. Most of us, especially over here know that episode backwards. You weren't able to upload the episode but your reaction to that devastating scene is what people are interested in, and now you've provided that.

    Hi Guys, just in case no-one has told you, yes, that was Flanders fields the main area of France that the British Army fought in. The Poppies grew naturally & inspired the poem & the Red Poppies for Remembrance Day.

      @Chris_GY1 Před 28 dny +4

      Flanders in Belgium 🇧🇪 Is where most of the fighting happened during The First World War not in French 🇫🇷 Flanders.

      You two would like a song called Green Fields of France. It's the story of a soldier who died in 1915, there are Irish versions which use 1916 in reference to the Easter rising rebellion

    There was a lot of complaints in the UK regarding Blackadder Goes Forth. People were saying it is disrespectful to the soldiers who perished and those that fought because they reckoned it shouldn't be portrayed in a comedy. The writers were aware of this and they made sure that the end scene was taken seriously and brought all the laughter to an abrupt halt. The fields turning red was to show the blood of the dead soldiers that had fallen and was portrayed by the field of poppies. Poppies are worn by many in the UK on November 11th every year.

  • @Esther-Pesta
    @Esther-Pesta Před 27 dny +2

    Poppies were the only thing that would grow in the devastated battlefields, hence the field of poppies at the end. Poppies are also used as a symbol of remembrance, on remembrance day in the UK. We do 2 minutes silence at the 11th hour, on the 11th day of 11th month every year ❤

    Such a great ending and the fact that it is on a comedy show makes it even more impactful, the juxtaposition of Bizarre stupid comedy and throw in some absolute sombre reality is much more meaningful.

    Yes that field was a battle site and the poppy is now a mark of respect for those that fought a died in all wars.

    Series 1 is like a test run. Some things worked, some didn't. You do get a couple of famous actors in it and it is good to see the building blocks being assembled. Black Adders Christmas Carol and the Cavalier Years short are must watches. Back and Forth is the weakest of them all. When Goodbyeee was originally broadcast the laughter track was present over the final scenes, which drew a lot of complaints. When it was rebroadcast they wisely cut it out.

    Yeah the YT copyright has definitely got a lot more intense, I myself have had some problem trying to get stuff uploaded, it’s such a shame because they will let it pass on patron, so it just goes to show the double standards of YT. The ending of BA goes forth should be seen by everyone it’s so moving

    I don't know if anyone has mentioned it in other videos, but you may want to check out Tony Robinson's one man show called "Tony Robinson's Cunning Night Out". He goes over many fun historical facts as well as the ending to Blackadder Goes Forth and the issues they had filming it. It's a really fun watch and shows just how smart TR really is. There's a reason he hosted multiple history (and history themed) shows.

    Thanks boys. Think most people understand with You-tube reaction vids like yours you get gaps and eps out of sequence. Don't sweat it too much you two are great fun and would be welcome in Cardiff for a pint any time. BTW yep pretty sure it was a battlefield. But now am thinking i should look it up...

  • @10thdoctor15

    The field at the end was just stock BBC film, but given it has popped in it, it could well be a WWI battlefield.

    they only got a few seconds of footage at the end scene and cast refused to do another take because they found it too emotional so they came up with the idea of slowing what they had shot down so it was complete chance they came up with the amazing end scene

    Do yourselves a huge favour, boys, not necessarily for this channel but for yourselves and watch "Oh! What a Lovely War" from 1969. There is no shooting, battles or graphic deaths, performed comically around real songs, incidents and quotes of the day and is heart breaking.

    when this show first aired lots of people complained about it being disrespectful to those who died . Then the first world war vertrians satrted saying that no its great the humor is spot on to what it was like in the trenches. And after that ending it was raved about. at the end of the nighties there was a poll for the greatest moments in tv history. The ending came second ...to the moon landings! thats how well regarded this season is.

    Ben Elton wanted to finish with a truth. Wars are often not avoidable because one side invades another country and that country has a choice of becoming slaves to a dictatorship or fight back which becomes a war, hence wars are fought because a small elite ruler has a perverted vision of ultimate power and wealth. As long as we have a system where a small elite control the lives of billions wars will continue. My dad was a sergeant in the Lancashire Fusiliers during WW1 [i am 75] he was gassed but survived clearly or i would not be here.

    Ignor season 1 they changed so much for season 2 etc whatch each seson through then do specials when you want. The ending was what Americans call a water cooler moment, the whole of the UK had to pause and take it in, the ending is shoking but beatiful, amazing that a comody did what they did.

    the last scene a shot in a studio and filmed on a budget as regards to bangs and whizzes the result when watched back was terrible borderline unuseable and amaterish,,, so someone had the bright idea of slowing it down with slowed down music and then fade to the poppys,,,,, and its a classic bit of tv now almost if not the perfect ending

    Didn't you miss some of season three out ,considering in the earlier series you couldn't get the concept of the period,just know your history boys season one was ok but by far the weakest.this last episode had pathos always strangely compelling in a classic comedy sketch for such a serious subject.
