At approximately timestamp 1:50 she lets the edge of the sterile drape cover the edge of the sterile tray momentarily. The non-sterile side of the drape (created when she pinched it to pick it up) slaps the tray’s left edge AND IMMEDIATELY CONTAMINATES THE WHOLE THING. Technically THIS FEILD IS NOT STERILE. IF THIS HAPPENED IN THE OPERATING ROOM, SHE WOULD BE EATEN ALIVE.
I've been doing port care at home for almost ten years. I'm going to be doing iv fluids at home soon. Can you please show how to do that part in a separate video?
FYI Bio patches are being phased out in the next few years for the chlorhexidine impregnated tegaderm dressings that all emergency room and hospitals hopefully will stock 👍
I know this is an old video. The preformed syringes are not sterile; only the tips under the caps and the fluid are sterile. Hands should be cleaned before donning sterile gloves.
These particular Saline Flushes ARE sterile, coming in sterile packaging. Typical saline flushes used daily are what you are referring to which are only sterile under the caps. Again, the ones used in this video are different and are completely sterile and are specifically completely sterilized so they can be introduced into the sterile field.
In the or we'd open onto the larger field. The plunger of the syringes hanging over the dressing packaging is no longer considered sterile. I would have opened onto the larger field. Different technique , I guess.
Confirm the location is correct (the patient will tell you if there is pain when administering saline), if no pain, push through a 10ml posiflush fast as there could be slight overgrowth on the interior catheter. If still no flashback, consult with an IV CNS about administering tPa

Absolutely stabilize the port before accessing the port with the Huber needle

You don't need to wear sterile gloves to drop things on a sterile field
Proper sterile technique shouldn’t include wearing a cardigan with long sleeves.
