Tavy@ i can remember being at this match as a young 9 year old and was really impressed with the way both teams played there football. It was so fast and every pass got to the player intented, and i noticed the way both teams used the full park as in both flanks and in the first half st mirren were brilliant, but they were a really great team in those days with alot of great players! Then celtic came into it alot more. But it was a joy to watch despite the score line. I would never have thought celtic would have won 5-1. And i went to watch st mirren a few times before this game. As in 1980 i remember being in st mirren park. Becouse i always watched alot of great amature teams in ferguslie park and down at st james park wich had at least 35 parks on it wich was also known as the racecourse! And it had a special aura about it. Maybe its becouse there was at least 35 games being played at the same time. But it was a joy for a young football mad kid like myself. I can always remember dundee utd from 1980 to 1985 always struggled to beat st mirren at st mirren park every time i was there. It was as if st mirren were there boggy team. Becouse dundee utd from 1980 to 1985 were superb, brilliant, leauge contenders easy just like aberdeen as well. But after 1986 st mirren really did start to go down hill fast, i know they won the scottish cup and it was a great time, but those who knew there football already knew they wernt the same team from 7, 6 years before! And no where near it. They had skillfull players alright, but the difference between good players and the great players is the great players know how to read the game? so when they get the ball players make themselfs available to them becouse they can read the game. A bit of great skill is good to see, but thats all it is, just good to see! It doesnt get the team any where really! And i hoped st mirren kept there old ground, just becouse they owed the bank 1 million pounds they had to move. C,ronaldo and messi earn that in just 3 weeks each. Even david beckham was earning that amount in 1 week in america, when you put it like that it just makes it all seem all the more pifetect.

Rory kennedy, you are so right there rory! In 1981 it was a joy to stand and watch these great players playing fast flowing football and making inch perfect passes with the outside of there boot and in a strong wind. Making 30 to 40 yards passes then making a move once the ball left there boot, becouse they had total self-believe that there pass was going to the player they picked out. Great stuff and great days to watch football, not one player lay on the ground for longer than 30 to 40 seconds and never complainend. Real men playing real football.
