- Here's a recap of all the songs that competed for Iceland in Eurovision Song Contest from 1986 to 2023. Please, enjoy!
Iceland has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 35 times since its debut in 1986, missing only two contests since then, in 1998 and 2002, when prevented from competing due to finishing outside qualification places the preceding years. The country's best result is second place, which it achieved with Selma in 1999 and Yohanna in 2009. The Icelandic broadcaster for the contest is Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV), which also broadcasts Iceland's national selection competition, Söngvakeppnin.
Iceland has achieved a total of seven top ten placements, with the others being Stjórnin finishing fourth (1990), Heart 2 Heart seventh (1992), Birgitta eighth (2003), Hatari tenth (2019) and Daði og Gagnamagnið fourth (2021). Since the introduction of the semi-final round in 2004, Iceland has failed to qualify for the final eight times, including four years consecutively (2015-18). As of 2023, Iceland is the only Nordic country that is yet to win the contest.

The vibe change between 2019 and 2020 🤣
As the times goes on, I'm becoming more and more certain that they would have won in 2020. Shame on you Covid! 😭
Lithuania would won, Iceland has become the favourite over the years but initially was predicted as becoming 4th
@@Wikcan Switzerland or Bulgaria imo
@@Wikcan Bookmakers predicted Bulgaria to win in 2020. Lithuania was predicted to finish second and Iceland, as you said, fourth. However, I strongly believe that Italy's Diodato would have finished first as I'm sure that the juries would have given him a massive amount of points. Given all the circumstances in 2020, "Fai rumore" was just incredibly strong.
I think the same
@@itszepp2492 the fact Daði placed 4th in 2021 and they were predicted to place 4th in 2020 -
I love how Iceland is sending different entries every year!
2019: Hatari with aggressive industrial techno
2020 & 2021: Dadi og gagnamagnid with cute and funky disco
2022: Systur with relaxing and soft folk ballad
2023: Dilja with an uplifting pop song
2024: hera back again with an early 2010s vibe pop song
@@Africkinggodif they even participate this year
Hatari and Daði were my favourites! ❤️🇮🇸
Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
One day Iceland will win🙏 One day…
I wish that day was in 2019 😢
They deserved to win much times since 2010: 2010, 2014 (was underrated), 2016 (criminally robbed, my top 5), 2019, 2020, 2021
And is the ESC at Rejkavik🎉
It took Portugal over fifty years to win so there’s still time.
Yes, I definitely want them to win one day.
A country with such a small population can give us so much diversity of genres and styles! Iceland should be proud of all they've done at ESC. I will fly to Reykjavik and watch when they finally win and host!
Iceland definitely deserves to win soon. I enjoyed a lot of their entries!
We have been trying for decades the closest we ever got was daði Freyr we so deserve to win at least once
@@isaksmari5113 There were two 2nd places (1999 and 2009). Daði came 4th in 2021, but if it hadn't been for Corona, i guess 2020 could have been your coutry`s year. "Think about things" is such a banger. Also i think Daði should try again in the near future. I was at one of his concerts lately, and it was so much fun.
Greta in 2016 was one of the biggest shames in the history of the contest. Incredibly robbed
Montenegro was robbed in 2016
@@steinarmogen3166 Yes, very underrated. Almost no one liked it, but the performance was incredible, and the live version made me like the song, it's a pity that it's not in Spotify. Greta was a big shock because a lot of people liked it at first, but Montenegro also deserved the final. I hope next year back in Sweden we will see again camera works like in 2016, was amazing.
2023 должна была быть в финале. Крутая певица!
Pretty impressive what Iceland always manages to bring, for such a tiny country. Great songs in 1990, 1994, 1999, 2009, 2013, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Paul Oscar was DEFINITELY ahead of his time.
That wouldn't sound out of place in the competition today, never mind the year I was born! ❤❤
BEJBA
I CAN'T WAIT TO KNOW
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THINGS
Diljá = robbed 😢😢
DILJÁ WAS SO ROBBED IKR
😢😢😢😭😭😭 Loved her track
Can we all agree that 1997 was about 20 years too early?
Definitely 😅
Dunno If that is a good thing for esc these days though
Minn hinsti dans 🙌🇮🇸
Iceland needs to win Eurovision soon!!
And I'm kinda annoyed because after doing an in-depth spreadsheet predicting who would've given who 1-12s in 2020, my conclusion was that Iceland would've won then...
But then a mildly annoying virus began :(
And You telling me that they wasn't In top 10 back In 2010?
And You telling me that they was NQ back In 2016?
WHY?
I really love Heja Björk's song. İt is fantastic 😊😊😊
2010 was a very strong year imo, but she deserved better
@@marinacarmezim 👍👍
I like their entries in 2009, 2012, 2016, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Yohanna, Euroband, Heja Björk, Greta Salome, Selma ❤❤❤
2006 Sylvia Night, my favorite Eurovision troll ✨ It really deserves to qualify. To the bashers, congratulations to you!
2009-2013 was their golden era imo. All of the songs they sent I loved
1999 Selma's and Dilja's hairstyle is similar ❤
The fact that dadi fyer could been at eurovision 2017 kills me
2020 was the Winner🏆
2019... I think I decided to put it as my winner that year. I always loved Hatari and I think they were a bit robbed
Daniel from 1989 was the most robbed imo. :)
Daniel had a Nice song But a horrible arrogant and snobbish attitude to esc…If you have read the Nil points book
@@steinarmogen3166i mean they gave him a freaking cactus as a prize 😂😂😂
2016 everyone wanted Greta..... Howether, 2016-2017-2019-2020-2021 Iceland was very very Amazing and catchy ❤😊 I love so much Dadi Freyr (best Icelandic artist for me) 🥰
Iceland is true veteran
My top 3 from Iceland are Yohanna 2009, Hatari 2019 and Systur 2022
Islândia com seus cantores maravilhosos, mostram a qualidade da boa música com fervor. Ótimas canções.
Valentine Lost is underrated as hell
My favorite is 2006 8:18 !! I like so much the song and the energy Silvia had…Hope see her again at the eurovision stage..I am SURE she will qualify❤
Silvía Night is a character created by an Icelandic actress and singer Ágústa Eva Erlendsdóttir. She doesn't play her anymore so I don't think we will see her again but I agree that her song is fun. I remember loving it when I was a kid
Listen to whole Iceland from 2006
Yay my country🎉. I love a lot of these songs since I grew up listening to them. My favorites are Gleðibankinn
Eitt lag enn
Draumur um Nínu
Nei eða Já
All out of Luck( should have won over Charlotte Nilsson)
Open your heart( thats especially special to me since 2003 is the first Eurovision I remember. I loved Birgitta and her song)
This is my life
Is it true? ( Jóhanna has been my celebrity crush since I was a 13 year old kid watching Eurovision in 2009
Coming home
Ég á líf
No Prejudice( even though the Icelandic version is much better)
Hatrið mun sigra( I hated it when it first won Söngvakeppnin but as I listened to it more I started liking it and the performance was awesome in Israel
Think about Things and 10 years Daði and Gagnamagnið are national treasures❤❤ They would have won in 2020 if it wasnt for stupid Covid
Power it should have qualified. I feel like thats the best of our non qualified songs.
There are very few songs of ours I don't like. I would say Það sem enginn sér, Paper and Our Choice are like the worst songs we've had.

Iceland NQing in 2016 and 2017 and 2023 is still shocking
I don’t know why… but I’ve never forgotten 1990. I was 9 and I wanted that pink dress.
It's red
it's crazy to me that power didn't qualify, it was one of the best songs last year
Can you teach me more about history of Iceland ?
I love so much Iceland 2015...
TwoTricky's Angel is still my nostalgic love ❤❤❤😊
Same it's one of my faves in 2001, definitely deserves top 5
My favorites: 1990, 2000, 2009,
What if Iceland wins some year?
2012 💙💙💙
Systur, Svala, Greta, Hatari ❤❤❤❤
Nætur,Sjúbídú and Hægt og hljótt best entries.
Dadi Freyr meritava di vincere nel 2020 e aveva buone possibilità anche nel 2021.
2012 underrated
It is true?? Was the best icelandic song ever, she deserved a lot more
1990 and 1992 are the best in my eyes.
Υοhanna and Hatari..Legends
Too many great entries!
Dilja was fantastic deserve a final❤😢
I think you made a little mistake in your video. Iceland was in the second semi final 2015, not semi final 1
Svala and Greta were the bighest robberies here
1989 was at least 5th place, its catchy, cmon
Should’ve won in 1999
Iceland is the definition of Eclectic 😂
i just wanna see that blonde man with blue eyes every year of esc
Maybe Iceland is the most robbed country? Like…. Greta and Dilja should have been in the GF😭🪓
2023😞😔🇮🇸🇮🇸☹️
Wait 1994 Sigga, she looks suspiciously like the Sigga from 2022🤔
She already participated in 1990, 1992 and 1994. Dont think she secretly participated as a part of systur tho
@@esc_nl4768 I mean it could be, bc I think she is in her fourties so…
@@Kazimikoj the 2022 siga was in her late 30s early 40s. The 90s one tho is now 60
@@esc_nl4768 oh…💀
Ah, Dilja...
I would prefer Diljá in Grand Final over Austria, but... It is what it is.
Bruh no
Nah keep Austria in. It's Poland who should have flopped in favor of Iceland.
@@SageArdor Bejba
Austria's was also good, but Diljá's was better
🥇🌵🥈🥉🥇🥈🥉🏆
I still rage when I hear Our choice cuz it was so bad😭
🇮🇸
Johanna is the best!
2006
Iceland had to won in 1999 instead of Sweden and in 2023 they must qualified:c
Play JA JA DING DONG!! 😡😡
1999 was a Käärijä - level robbery
2019 was. It totally deserved to win not just 10th
YOU CALL KÄÄRIJÄ ROBBERY?! 😂
Give up Jonsi, it's not gonna happen.
2017 was robbed changed my mind
Iceland never was my winner.
Its best result was 2nd in 1987 and 1990.
2010 was SO ROBBED
Valtine lost ❤🇮🇸
ПОН
omg so many stylistic travesties through the years 😂
So bad 😂😂😂😂
