The British really do take the Mickey out of themselves with a lot of good spirit. And in turn take the Mickey out of everyone else with no malice at all meant. We often wonder why people can’t laugh at themselves but it takes all sorts

Sean Lock - The Tiger who came for a pint story was Brilliant. He had a humour on another level than other comics
A simple system, you can't argue with it.

Al Murray is well known for being so intelligent here in the U.K. He is a very decent and compassionate bloke too 👍🏻👍🏻

@@donallmccrudden4812 Probably, but just to be clear, I find him very funny. I have seen many of his shows, it is just that he was incorrect on this one. Especially given that he has studied modern history at Oxford. You would expect him to know this or have researched it. Obviously being dutch and having visited the Rijksmuseum many times where the stern carving of the HMS Royal Charles is displayed, helps me to know this.

Al Murray’s “Road To Berlin” was Murray as himself, retracing the troops from the D-Day landing zones to Berlin. His comedy put him into a position to make serious programmes, much like Jaws, ET, and the other entertainment gave Spielberg the ability to make Schindler’s List.
Except Schindler's List is garbage compared to Jaws etc

After losing a funny man today, Sleep well Sean Lock, thank you for the laughs as your reactions had me in stitches.
Maybe lads you should have a look at Sean Lock as he sadly passed away today far too early. A very dry funny man I'm sure you will appreciate, there are plenty of videos of his "best of" appearances on various comedy panel shows worth a look at
Old school friend of mine was in the royal marines, did 4 trips and spent his entire time up bloody mountains!
RIP Sean Lock.. one of the funniest comedians in the UK for the past 20+ years.. you guys really need to check him out, the man is a legend.

What you missed is the first half hour of his shows are hilarious when he talks to some of the audience, just randomly.... and they're the people he keeps talking to the rest of the show, always remembering their names and involving them in the jokes... they're the people he kept talking to during the performance, you're missing out on these callbacks

Al Murray is at his best when he is just riffing off the audience nearly half of the show is interacting with the audience, who are you what do you do etc. A great improviser and one of the best comedy gigs I've been to.
We British are also good at taking the mickey out of ourselves, although it's not always obvious. Thats something I actually like about my own country, we're not afraid to laugh at ourselves.
His podcast on WW2 (as himself not the pub landlord) with historian James Holland is brilliant - We Have Ways of Making You Talk. Well worth a listen

Had to rewind that to pick up his "special forces for those that can't read".
You need to see his opening monologues where he picks on the front row of audiences and their jobs. His off the cuff humo(u)r there is brilliant!

As others have said, the pub landlord is a character and so different from his real self. This guy knows his stuff and has done many documentaries on history, engineering, science etc. Al Murray himself is very different from his character. The pub landlord is very entertaining and lends himself well to reactions, but if you want to see a man in his element, watch his documentaries ;) Probs not good reaction content, but you will learn much stuff! ^^

Rest in Peace Sean Lock, one of the funniest down-to-earth friendliest comedians in British comedy history. Loved watching him on 8 out of 10 cats does countdown and would I lie to you? And in mock the week. So sad to say farewell but you left us with all your videos to remember you by and you can still make us laugh and happy. I’m sure he’ll be in Heaven doing what he loves to do :’)

Regarding the question of the Marines being the soldiers who are deployed to foreign conflicts.
If you considerel the origins of the military branches. The Army is the Continental force, they were there to defend the borders (and expand west). Force projection was through the Navy, they delivered offensive troops to the theater of war.
Today the Marines are flown and the army gets involved also, but going on tradition and more importantly by tactical designation, the Marines are the troops you want to be sending

I can understand why some people miss his jokes as he does use a cockney accent and and at times its a bit fast for me and ime a cockney. He does have masters degree in history from Oxford and speakes several lanuages. You should see the complete Al Murray: Beautiful British Tour - Live at the O2 there mostly from, its about 90 min long. I would not like to be one of them he picks on in th audience as he does go a bit far some times.
