  • We are going to explain the y=mx+b slope intercept formula as it relates to scaling 4-20mA signals. PLC inputs rarely scale values directly to a 4-20mA signal. Additionally the 4mA live zero confuses many people when trying to plug a raw analog input into the slope intercept equation of y=mx+b. So we are going to explain what the y, m, x, and b mean. We have explained in previous videos how to connect your 4-20mA analog signal to your PLC input and how to configure your analog modules in Rockwell Automation's Studio 5000 for an Allen Bradley Compactlogix PLC.

At GM we have our "4-20" devices setup as 3.5 ma - 20.5 ma. The reason being is that various faults with the input can be sent to the PLC as either a 3.5 ma or a 20.5 ma signal. Of course if your input device doesn't provide this feature then it's pointless to accommodate for it. But it would create a fault on a sensor failure for example.

Yes, one of the lesson in the series I touch on that but I should probably go into detail on that.

Does the scaling 4-20mA analog signal requires conversion depending either it is real, bool or any datatype

BOOL can only be a 0 or a 1 so it is not an analog signal. We talk about REALs vs DINTs at twcontrols.com/lessons/difference-between-a-real-and-integer-numbers-when-rounding

Hello sir, Is it possible to migrate a hmi panelview c400 to hmi panelview800 using ccw without changing any tags in perfect manner
    Please suggest a easy way
