Right! Should have just used mud. And they apparently don't believe in impacts! Must be paid by the hour which probably doesn't amount too much. They're extraction method should be used by all SWAT teams for dynamic entry. Lol
It’s the main pitman shaft for the swing dye in a Jaw crusher, it’s designed as such. The lack of safety gear is also very sad. Next time someone bitches about their jobs, they should think of these guys.
The dirt in those bearings is the cause of all the problems, they cease and damage the shaft
Will they lubricate the shaft and bearings properly when they are put back in to service?
Did they install new seals?
If not it will fail again.

I commend these workers. They are able to make the necessary repairs under very difficult conditions..
I'd love to see what that "crankshaft" is used on. It looked more like a giant camshaft. My only real concern was seeing the bearings rolling around on the dirt floor. Regardless, those guys did an amazing job considering their working conditions etc. Pakistan would be a much more prosperous world-player if the government worked as well as this team. I worked as an oilfield drilling electrician in Quatar UAE. I learned all about ingenuity and how to "get things done" from my two fellow electricians, Mr Jacoob & Hadji from Karachi in Pakistan. In 1977-8 I was a drilling newbie, and they saved my ignorant ass every single day. I was ashamed that my salary was 5 times theirs, but they still treated me with the highest respect, which I greatly returned.
God bless you Jacoob & Hadji.
Pakistan is a religious nutcase country.
Thanks for your comments Brian, I see a lot of very nasty, childish and spiteful comments from Westerners on these Pakistani workshop sites.
I am not sure why ? Possibly nothing more than racism coming from ugly bitter souls ?
Anyway it's great to hear your positive perspective. And your great respect for Mr Jacoob and Hadji. 🙏
@@jackb8682 you're very welcome Jack. Jack was my Father's name too, and he was an engineer, mechanic, machinist (English Army) just like these guys. You are correct in your assumption that ignorant racism is the core reason for the silly, childish & nasty comments posted regarding these "helpful and educational" videos of how the different work-forces of other cultures are countries work to achieve the same objectives. It's ignorant racial snobbery, plain & simple. I hope you have a beautiful blessed day, Jack. Cheers from S.Louisiana USA.
Thank you for your appreciative comments, I agree that it's very easy to criticise what appears to be their crude and laughable methods but they are using basic engineering methods of applying heavy directional forces in the safest way that they have available. I'd like to think that just by watching this video a few westerners have already been 'educated'
I had a similar humbling experience to you when I was installing British built heavy machinery in Karachi in the 1970s. Despite having hardly any lifting equipment they taught me how to make do with what was available.
Hat's off to your Mr Jacoob and to your Mr Hadji.
Safest way available? BS. It is the cheapest, not safest. They could make and use a threaded puller that would only cost a couple dollars to make, but they dont.
Fantastic work muy friends!

В конце восьмидесятых, прошлого века, работал слесарем ремонтником на заводе. Вот примерно так и работали.
The guy doing the lathe work and the big happy smile and thumbs up almost had me give the thumbs up back. It seems the lads personality is catching, given the main workers smiles and thumbs at the end. Outstanding job and that WAS a humongus looking lathe but for it all, the "ram" on on the crane chain did it for me had me applauding their ingenuity..
The 'Ram' on the crane idea has been in use since the start of engineering and was still in use in British heavy engineering up until at least the 1960s. We used to call it a 'Tup' and it was a common way of 'shunting' something very heavy over a short distance.

The ingenuity of mankind is incredible.
Amazing techniques and very hard working people. For such companies investment in heavy hydraulic presses will be not a bad idea. I wish good luck for these hard working people.
The tool big enough to accomplish what they did with hand tools and ingenuity probably costs what that whole teams wages are for a couple few years.
Not worth the investment if you’re only going to use it every few years.
Unfortunately, heavy hydraulic presses are hugely expensive and can only be justified if they are in constant use. These guys are using their initiative and skills to get a difficult job done with what they have available. They are good hardworking people.
I have the same box wrenches they use. Bought mine cheap at a discount store 40 years ago and even though i've got lots more expensive wrenches I still use those. They have been abused badly, heated and bent, piece of pipe for leverage, etc and they never fail. Love that huge battering ram!

Bearings always work best after they've been rolled in the dirt.
I thought the same.
😆👍
What a massive Crank shaft
What, exactly, was the repair here ? They welded & turned the journal, which leads me to believe the inner bearing race had spun on it, yet they re-used the same bearings (after rolling them around in dirt, of course). Wouldn't the inner race be scored if it had spun enough to destroy the journal ?
I think Pep Boys keeps those bearings in stock. 😆
Bearing races are very hard, the shaft is softer. Vast majority of damage will be to the shaft. The shaft was built up enough to make a fair interference fit on the race ID, so at equal temperatures there won't be appreciable slop. "Perfect job"? Of course not. But it will do what it's supposed to for quite a while. It's a crusher not a jet engine lol
@@ludditeneaderthal correct . they may clean the bearings before it goes back into the machine.
The journals for the outer bearings were worn, when they first removed the bearings you can see little dots on it, that is where on a previous repair they had peened the journals so the bearings would be a tight fit. Obviously the peening did not last, how long this repair lasts is unknown without at least a semi accurate interference fit.
And they did it all without measuring a thing. How would you like to be the guy that paid them to turn his shaft into a boat anchor?
