  • In this review we test and analyze the Shark Canister Pet vacuum cleaner - model CZ351. Tests include carpet, hard floor, hair, edges, large debris, noise, etc. See it at Shark: sharkclean.sjv.io/9WBOJ3
Also, see the written review at: vacuum-cleaner-advisor.com/Sh...
We show what’s in the box and walk you through the tool clip and the two tools (crevice tool and upholstery tool). We highlight that there is no tool for dusting.
We show the top and bottom of the cleaner head and highlight that there is a row of LED lights along the front of the cleaner head that illuminate when you are vacuuming (acting as headlights) and that there is a “brushroll spinning” warning light. The underside of the cleaner head shows the self-cleaning brushroll and we discuss why this one is interesting.
Controls on the handle are shown and we highlight that there are two floor settings (carpet and hard floor) and there are three suction power settings. There are also two large buttons on the back of the canister itself. One is a power button and one is a power cord rewind button. They can be pushed by hand or with your foot. The rewind button must be held down to work. The power cord on the CZ351 is 25 feet long which is a decent length for a canister vacuum.
The underside of the canister has four 360 degree rotating castor wheels which create good mobility for the canister but we were a little disappointed that the canister has no bumper around the perimeter.
We weighed the vacuum ourselves at 17.1 lbs and this is not what we would call lightweight. However, with a canister vacuum you are pulling a large part of the vacuum so the weight isn’t quite as noticeable as it would be with an upright (unless of course you are carrying the vacuum).
The Shark Canister Pet has MultFLEX technology which is essentially a hinge in the middle of the wand. It allows the wand to bend at 90+ degrees and it is useful in allowing one to get under low furniture without bending your back or knees as much as you would have to without the technology. We don’t use the feature much and feel that it just adds weight to the wand, but we’ve spoken with people who really do like it.
The unit has 2 pre-motor filters and 1 post motor filter (HEPA grade). All filters are rinsable in water and reusable. They are also easy to access. We show how to do all this.
We walk through the steps to empty the dust canister which are pretty straightforward and we highlight that the dust canister is of sufficient size so that you will not find yourself having to stop and empty it too frequently.
The vacuum hose is not reinforced and we show how it can sometimes kink. Canister movement on carpet is average but movement is better on hard floors. This is the same for the cleaner head.
We used a digital noise level meter to capture the noise level of the vacuum for all three power settings. It is, in our opinion, a very quiet vacuum. We show how the noise levels compare to those of other vacuums in a table with Shark and Dyson uprights.
We perform a host of cleaning test (all in MAX power mode). We test the vacuum on small-to-medium size debris and low pile carpet and hard flooring. Pickup is excellent - some of the best we’ve seen.
We also tested the brushroll on a combination of human hair and pet hair. Tangling still occurred but it was limited when we compare it to the kind of tangling this test has shown with brushrolls that are not self-cleaning. So this feature works - but not perfectly. You may still get some tangling.
The vacuum did not perform particularly well in our large debris test. The cleaner head had a hard time getting overtop of the fruit loops. Also, edge cleaning was average. It did not clean right up to the edge of the wall.
We also note that there are two models of the Shark Canister. The one we are reviewing here, the Shark Canister Pet (Note that in the UK this is sometimes referred to as the Shark Cylinder Pet), and another unit called the Shark Vertex Canister. We highlight the differences between the two vacuums.

I recently purchased this vacuum and I'm in love with it. I had no idea how much dirt was in my carpet till I went over it with this machine. It's easy to clean and I love how it lights up. I'm buying only shark products from now on.

Yes, the Vertex is great at larger debris. I know that from our dog chewing a stick into pieces on our carpet. Overall, I love it. My biggest complaints are the kinking of the hose, the lack of bumpers, and limited included tools. As you said, they should have included a dusting brush, the combined brush/upholstery tool, and a pet hair power brush. I bought some, but it sucks to have to do. Having said that, getting under our couch with that hinged wand is great.

Great review! If personally love to see a review on the new Samsung Bespoke Jet. It has a self-emptying system that I'd love to see put to the test.

I already own the Shark Rotator Power Fin self cleaning roll and lift away canister. While I really like this vaccum, I find the hose to the hand/wand is quite short and not really effective/easy to run a quick dust tool over a table when cleaning. I also find the short hose is constantly pulling the vacuum over when I try to extend it. Sure the pod lifts away but then again it's not practical for me to hold the pod lift away with left hand and reach above my head with the wand in my other hand to dust ceiling corners or over tops of door/window molding. That's why I'm considering this canister. It's virtually the same machine as my Rotator but offers convenience features I use in my cleaning. I also like the light weight canister approach to alleviate back strain. So thanks for your review, I think I'll go ahead and buy the Pet Canister - use both and then determine if the Rotator can maybe be moved on to family or donation. BTW I have the PowerFin brush roll on my Shark Cordless canister vac for kitchen, utility and quick pickups between major cleaning. With two Springer Spaniels I can tell you the PowerFin as imperfect as it may seem to you is a God-send. Pet hair with regular brush rolls is a nightmare and the PowerFin brush roll completely eliminates hair cleaning form the roll for me. I was surprised to see you test that there was some winding of hair, but that's very unusual for my other two Shark vacs with PowerFins. Perhaps the thick concentration and length of that dog hair was a challenge. Unless you let your pet home go for months at a time, that likely would never happen. thanks for the reviews. Your reviews were very useful in my vacuum choices over the past couple of years.

I wish that in SG have this quiet Shark. I have long hair. My straight suction cylinder is not best for picking up hairs even in carpet mode with the brushes up

I don't get it every Shark Powered lift-away-style vacuum you never noticed a press of the lift away button you can clean under furniture without moving it

Debating about getting a canister style vacuum. I like my upright one but their are areas it cant reach especailly under bed and heavy furniture that cant go all the way under it or the head doesnt fit. Some say get the detachable handle but i dont like how it feals seeing the hose i often have to tug a lot and almost knock my vacuum down.

Does the duo power head fit that vaccum? There is a sale right now and I would like to know as this one is cheaper. I would just buy the power head separately. Thank you.

Nice review again. I’d like to get something not as heavy for my mother, and she’s old school using canister vacuums for a long time. 17 pounds is definitely not light. The stick vacuums from Shark are awkward, because the dust bowl at the top is heavy on the hand and wrist. This would be easier for her to wheel, but like you said it doesn’t have a bumper and these canisters bump into furniture and walls all the time. Any recs for a corded vacuum (non-stick vacuum) in their lineup that is a little easier to maneuver and not as heavy?

I have tiles floor and a few area large rugs. This vac is best for my home but it not avialable in SG. I need to import it from USA. But your voltage is not the same. Mine is same as UK. 240 volts not 120 volts
