      @@92JazzQueen I will agree with you on that one. the copy of White Fragility seems more like product placement the show was using to push propaganda while the writers seemed to miss out on a few key historical facts when it came to slavery such as California not being a slave state or the fact that only a small number of folks, which had black people, white people and indigenous folks among their numbers, owned slaves.

      It looked to me like they were trying to push propaganda instead of offering a history lesson, even if it was oversimplified for the target audience. Also the copy of White Fragility comes across as product placement for a book that the target audience won't be able to read or understand until they are in high school at the very least.

      It’s honestly a coin flip at this point. I loved the OG Proud Family and honestly think they handled this stuff better then the new one in some cases because it seems like the new one only has the writers sometimes do their research and other times just go with their own feelings/opinions on things. I’m hoping it’ll get more cohesive as it goes on and the show remembers the age range it’s being marketed towards is 6-13 year olds, not that older can’t enjoy it but I don’t know that the younger kids will absorb the lessons it’s trying to teach correctly or understand them properly.

    Something interesting I just noticed. Okay, so Noah only dates white girls right? But is it really only based on how attractive they are? If you notice, when Noah first arrives in the cafeteria, a specific white girl approaches him. He blows a kiss to her and she falls to the floor. For some reason, he didn't think to ask her to the dance, instead he bypasses her and then located Zoey, actually making Zoey the 2nd white girl he saw. What made him choose Zoey over the first girl? If you notice, after Zoey dumps him, that same girl he blew a kiss to in the beginning is the one he ends up dating after the fact despite her being presumably more attractive than Zoey who is nerdy for lack of a better word. Him liking white girls is only surface level but for some reason he must have noticed something unique about Zoey besides her skin color that stood out to him, not to mention she was eating like a slob but that didn't deter him at all. Also, the girls were already shocked and jealous that Noah picked Zoey because they (Penny included) felt that they were all cuter than her. But perhaps Noah wasn't simply trying to date a girl solely based on how attractive they were. It makes the girls look even more shallow now that I think about this because while they're mad at him for dating only white girls (Or mad at Zoey for that matter) they're just as bad for thinking that a guy should choose automatically choose a girl solely based on how cute or popular she is. I think that's an interesting observation that we all missed the first time around (myself included).

      Yeah that is an excellent point to make. What really puts this episode down is because not only the assumption that doesn't get questioned right out of the gate, but also because she's suppose to be the "ugly one" within the friend shows how incredibly toxic that friend group can be and how reactionary they become from a simple rumor that was from word of mouth. Instead of taking the time to research his dating history (He's a famous actor, people love stalking their relationship status) or even talk to the dude about the issue, they used that rumor to cope that someone would choose Zoey over the rest is incredibly cruel. All they needed to do was simply make Noah look like he's pushing the racial interests way too much to make it work and that alone would fix change the episode to an entirely different direction than where it went. This topic is a genuine issue, I do believe that whole heartedly (and in general, not just black guys being only interested in white girls), but they missed the mark and just made all the girls (and Michael) look like ass holes.

    I can relate a lot to that episode, cause I've experienced it myself. A black guy asked me out, and instead of being happy for me?
    They were upset with me, because I was white. I didn't choose that skin color, and when I said that? My black friends told me that I was
    "White privileged" and that white girls were ruining the black generation by having mixed children. When I tried to explain on how that sounded
    racist? They said that it wasn't racist because I was white, and then when I tried to explain on how racism worked? They started talking over me,
    trying to use slavery against me, and on how white people don't experience racism cause of having white skin, etc. None of my friends that day listened, and proceeded to talk behind my back, calling me a racist, and saying that I can't speak about racism cause of being "White privileged"
    I ended up telling the guy no, and gave a reason on why because of what happened with my friends. He ended up talking to them one day when I wasn't there. When the next day came? My friends tried to apologize, and when I called them out on their behavior, called them fake friends, and never spoke to them again. They still try to talk to me, but I don't like being put in situations that cause drama over the slightest thing, and if they're not willing to listen while trying to invalidate how you feel, along with your experiences? Then they're not true friends.

Slaves also didn't build "This country" Disney didn't even get their facts right when talking about it. White people, asian people, mexican people will instantly be pounced on over the slightest thing. Every race also wore dreads for multiple reasons, but yet it's okay for some black people to mimic a white persons hair style.
      People of color do have more power, and use their race as any excuse to get what they want, yet will be quick to call a white person privileged cause of their skin color when in reality? Everyone is working their butts off to keep everything they own, etc.

True, Penny wasn't perfect in this either (already having a great boyfriend she ignores with Dijonay), but at the very least she doesn't believe Zoey is in the wrong and is willing to discuss what might've actually happened. Dijonay, however, ruins this in her twisted view of everything wrong in her own, miniscule world. The worst thing she says is that 'Zoey doesn't get it,' like, wtf? What, pray tell, was Zoey, and in this case, the audience as a whole, is supposed to get? Not only does she refuse to explain anything, but she makes it worse for everyone around her! Worse still, a gaslit Zoey is made to APOLOGIZE despite the fact that Maya CAUSED the whole thing with her flippant attitude! No one bothered to search for the whole truth beyond the rumor, or gave Zoey the benefit of the doubt that she got lucky, OR Dijonay remaining faithful to a great boy that was aslready there!

    1. Noah does NOT represent all black men who are down for thier women. He is an individual who is allowed to date any girl he wanted.
    2. Even if he doesn't have any preferences, they'll still accused Zoey for going out with him.
    3. People accused Noah for kissing a the same white girl at the end of the episode when in reality, Noah could've kissed any girl he finds attractive.
    4. Last but not least, A Double-Edge Sword. Even if Noah dating girls like Penny or Lacienega, many of you would still be upset if Maya said he only dates girls who have lighter skin tone. It's basically a no win situation for him.

But they do say it was in the past and we must be better. So treat people how you wish to be treated... They would show us the slaves day to day work.. They would bring in dried up cotton plants and we would have to try to pick the cotton off the plant and separate the seeds. If you want to pick cotton you have to wait until the plant is dried and the plant is a very very sharp. And then there's about 8 to 7 seeds in the cotton so you have to pick that all out by hand before the cotton gin was invented. So we would do that in our history class. And then our teachers would ask us like how did we feel about that and how do we think the slaves felt. And before people go off in the comments, There were permission slips sent out a month before explaining what they would be doing during that month. For example, the earliest settlers in North America didn't own slaves and slaves weren't introduced for over a hundred years afterwards. Slaves also weren't used to build infrastructure, they mostly worked in crop fields. The show and a lot of people today also forget about the slave trade. Black slavers in Africa rounded up and sold slaves to Europeans and elsewhere. Blacks in the US, and even Native Americans, owned a lot of slaves themselves. I agree with a lot you said, but there is something I want to put out.
      Learning US history, I have found that earlier in US history, agriculture was a HUGE part of the economy before the industrial revolution. I don't know if it is right but I don't think the spaves have contributed to the industrial revolution.
      Now on the proper topic, before the industrial revolution shot up, there were two types of economies. Economy in buildings, and economy on farms. Early in America's history, Thomas Jefferson wanted the US to be an agrarian (agricultural) society, meaning that before the industrial revolution hit, slavery was huge because they worked on agrarian fields. The slave owners handled the economic and business running parts of the country, but the slaves did the real work. That's why it was emphasized that "slaves built this country". They weren't saying "only slaves built this country" because white people have worked on their own right, usually farmers without slaves (if that was common) but mostly, it was the slaves who worked the fields and basically drove the agricultural economy.

    • @SaraRoseVaughan
      @SaraRoseVaughan Před rokem +3

      @David the King Wolf It would seem that slavery would be good for the economy, but the truth was actually the opposite. Slavery frequently slogged the economy due to the high costs of buying and keeping slaves. It may have been profitable to some. Otherwise, I doubt so many would have supported slavery during the civil war, but overall, it was not very sustainable. Slaves were used largely for labour intensive crops like cotton, but decent yields didn't come about until the introduction to inventions like the cotton gin, which did a far more superior job than a slave ever could.

      1. Heritage has a huge effect on race, and black people have went through history of segregation and racism. There are black people living today who have experienced this.
      2. The economic standpoint between whites and colored people. Mississippi has the highest populace of black people out of any state, but is the poorest state in the US. Black people are always put in a situation where they are vulnerable because of what politicians and the economy deem those of color. Think about it for a minute. Some people are suffering still.

    I think the episode about racial preferences was handled poorly. It's basically like when someone's husband cheats on them with someone who doesn't know they're married. And a wife blames the person for sleeping with him. The creator of the show himself has made it clear he doesn't understand colorism and has been found guilty of taking advantage of how women will blame each other instead of a man when the man is at fault. The right of episode is saying as woman's fault for allowing it to happen in the first place. But Zoey race and appearance is usually a negative on the show so thought they would make it as her taking advantage of the situation instead of her not knowing.
    Person I get told all the time by black guy so they don't date black girls or Redbones only. If they made this episode about colorism in dating instead like people been asking the creator to do in the first place before the writers decided to blame women for a man's intention they wouldn't know or think is racist it would be different. It's basically victim-blaming Zoey being unwilling and having a friend group breakup a friend group over a guy who's only in one episode is out of character for her. If anything la cienega would have been a better feeling for Zoey. She's prone to stab people in the back and honestly wouldn't believe that someone is only with her cuz of the color for skin or a Hispanic fetish that is very common in the black community. Having a dude make racists or stereotypical suggestions and maybe having her mom or papi have to explain what's happening to her would of been a solid episode.

I hate the term people of color, I'm brown, not "of color". This isn't truth, Thomas Sowell was a freaking genius...racism is kept alive by people who refuse to stop profiting on people's pain. My husband is Autistic too, and he is happy with the episode.

      @JasonBladeReviews  Před rokem +17

      Well, as a black furry, I see PoC as a way to see us all as minorities to work together in improving the circumstances we were given in this country. Cause whether you like it or not, race and ethnicity have played a role as the country developed, and it hasn't ended at a certain point in history. And while white people are oppressed, it's not because of racism. It is because they are a part of a lower class. There are different types of oppression that need to be worked on to improve a better life in society.

    • @WolfgangXP65-67
      @WolfgangXP65-67 Před rokem +2

      @@JasonBladeReviews I completely agree. Sadly, some people see PoC as only black people BECAUSE most of the anti-racism we were taught was on the topic of black people. Not a lot of people exactly know what happened with other races other than black or white.
      Take for example, Native Americans were represented as mystical figures unlike "normal people" which in turn forced me to believe that Native Americans were fake and never existed. Then I believed all of them were gone. I never wanted to be racist but from what I have seen, I felt Natives were basically gone. Then I found some DO exist and tribes are thriving, but the government is still treating them like dirt. Movies like old Westerns and Disney's Pocahontas and Peter Pan have those depictions and it is extremely racist. I reality, they still go through struggles of fearing for their lives and having none of the ability to be able to assimilate into society. Especially in Canada with a HORRIFYING Anti-Native sentiment where manifest destiny still is ongoing.
      I also want to talk about how Latinos were handled. Before English colonies took over, the people from Spain and Portugal were the ones who founded the American land, and contributed to it's colonization before Great Britain formed their own territories some years later. Spanish was to be the first language in the country but then English became such due to the competition of territories. So the Spanish took over territories south of the States and destroyed some native civilizations.
      But that's not really what I want to talk about. After the revolutionary war, Spanish Speaking people were seen as a threat to the usual citizens (white English Speaking) and many events have happened that almost destroyed their heritage in America. Especially today with Mexicans being blamed for the depression, Miami residents preventing bilingualism due to mass immigration from Latino peoples, and even today with Latino people being called illegal immigrants just for even dreaming of being a part of the US citizenship.
      My point is that I completely agree with what you said, and also that some races are still being subjugated for many invalid reasons, leading to events that destroy the esteem the people of these races. I hope you continue to prosper with your words and together with many others (as a white furry), we will make the nation better for everyone of every race. I am happy to see if you disagree or have facts that contrast to my statement because I am willing to be further educated.

    The proud family is good at bringing up topics but is terrible at actually discussing them. The autism episode was one of my least favorite aspects.
    First, it’s pretty underhanded to make your autistic character a baby that is barely a character a show in the first place where you never have to commit to writing.
    Second, they cast and had a consultant who is a former board member of autism speaks (an extremely harmful organization) play the role of the doctor. With that context in mind, it also undermines the idea of sending Bebe to school because it could very well be one of the harmful practices done to actual children.
    The ending also reveals the children all have superpowers playing into the aspie supremacy idea that autism is a superpower.
    It’s just constantly things like that. Let’s make a Black queer man but make him married to a white cop. Let’s reserve the most overt bigotry and ignorance to the dark skinned characters and double down on the colorism that was an issue in the original. Let’s just laugh off someone violently outing a Black queer man to the whole neighborhood. Oh let’s make an episode about social media and then make the white Instagram star the victim and act as if “cancel culture” is a legitimate thing.
    I feel that the Proud Family gets credit for just bringing up topics without any real discussion as to how those topics are handled and they often just lack a great deal of nuance.
    Love the video, sib! The Proud Family isn’t my thing but I have enjoyed your coverage on it.

    Information regarding autism:
    There are 3 levels of autism, which are high-functioning autism(AKA Asperger's Syndrome and Level 1 Autism)(which I have), medium-functioning autism(AKA Level 2 Autism)(An autist on this level has the mental capacity of a 7-year-old. Think of Forrest Gump, Raymond Babbitt from the movie 'Rain Man', or Arnie Grape from the movie 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape'.), and low-functioning autism(AKA Level 3 Autism)(An autist on this level has the mental capacity of an infant, a toddler, or, at most, a 4-year-old.).
    There are a number of symptoms that an autist can have, including having restrictive & repetitive behaviors, having intense interests, having issues with social interactions(which may include being unable to pick up on social cues and/or being unable to pick up on sarcasm), and being unable to understand social & societal norms. Some autists either have weak cognitive empathy(AKA empathic accuracy and theory-of-mind) or completely lack it(completely lacking it is referred to as "mind-blindness"). There are things that autists may be more or less capable with than non-autists, including math(which I royally suck at), multi-tasking(which I royally suck at), and memorization(which varies with me). There are conditions that a lot of autists have in addition to autism, including ADHD(which I had as a kid) or ADD(which I have had since middle school), OCD(which I have a mild case of), anxiety, depression, epilepsy, prosopagnosia(AKA face-blindness), phonagnosia, which is the auditory equivalent of prosopagnosia, and hypotonia, which affects muscle tone, muscle strength, motor skills, and stamina.
    Autists tend to have sensory issues. For example, many autists are sensitive to loud noises(I have this issue) and there are autists who either have a stronger-than-usual sense of smell that keeps them from eating certain foods(I usually can't eat macaroni-&-cheese if it's been made with cheddar cheese), have the opposite problem, or have both problems at different times. For example, I normally have a stronger-than-usual sense of smell, but there are times when I can't smell things that other people around me can smell. It's a very strange experience. More examples regarding sensory issues are that plenty of autists can't stand having tags on shirts that they wear(I have had this problem since I was little) and that plenty of autists can't stand the sensations that certain fabrics cause them to have on their skin, which affects the clothing that they can wear.
    Some autists naturally speak in a monotone voice, lack variation in speech when it comes to tone, pitch, and accent, either have difficulty with or are incapable of distinguishing voice tones, and either have difficulty with or are incapable of verbally & facially conveying their emotions in ways that don't come off as exaggerated and cartoonish.
    Some high-functioning autists(AKA aspies) are so high-functioning that a normal person would have to spend a lot of time with them to notice any of their autism symptoms. Some high-functioning autists and some medium-functioning autists(For example, Raymond Babbitt from the movie 'Rain Man'.) have what is called Savant Syndrome, which makes it so that they are much more skilled in memory, math, art, music, and/or spatial skills than a normal person.

    I don’t feel like this show represents Gen-Z in a way that The Proud Family did which at the time represented the Millennials, but it did touch on some current topics that I saw more and more in the late 2010s and early 2020s, like Black country and Native country, the 2 gay dads with an amazing chemistry, the return of Lacienega’s Flintstone feet in the olympics, a grouchy business woman that Michael was working with was in secret a dog lover and so on.

    Disney wants to avoid being like Boondocks ...and just capitalism on anything that looks like it would make them money with many families. However now seen as "woke" where conservatives often robot brain (not knowing how to define such themselves without prejudicial stereotyping groups of people, or being hypocrites) Disney may have lost that money. Likely though those types wanted to keep Song of the South and the ride open as traditions to be proud of among other such things Disney as a whole rather forget.
    Capitalism on such things as PC ideas may give motivation for some in the end of it, and avoiding the bigger issues that are more controversial than this to get real points across often seem an issue.
    Conformity almost cult likeness and rushed broken robot recordings of repetition will often be more on issues where none of these shows will be completely timeless treasures as much as just fading echoes through history.
