There was an 'alternate ending' to this film which was much more upbeat. ' I Am Legend ' is a post-apocalyptic horror novel by Richard Matheson written in 1954 . There have been three movies made from it . 1. The Last Man on Earth (1964) starring Vincent Price . 2. 'The Omega Man ' (1971) starring Charlton Heston. And 3. I Am Legend (2007) starring Will Smith.
you are correct the zombie did care about the girl in the alternate ending he gave the girl back and said sorry and they didn't kill him

Room 1408 is a brilliant movie must see
This movie is essentially a remake of the 1971 film called The Omega Man staring Charlton Heston. While there are some elements from this version that are better than the 1971 version, I feel that movie is slightly better. Also, the original version of this movie's ending had Will Smith survive, but it was changed to where he died like Heston did, but I feel his death was handled better than Smith's.

I know these aren't zombie movie recommendations, but they are somewhat related since they deal with Virus outbreaks. Absolute must-see are Contagion and V for Vendetta... I challenge anyone to see both of those films after having lived thru the 2020 lockdowns, and not be shaking your head and glaring around conspiratorially >.>

The alternate ending is on You Tube and is titled , " This Alternate Ending Could Have Saved I Am Legend "
All the butterfly thing and the leader behavior make sense on the alternate ending. You should watch it. Besides, Part II will take place after that alternte ending.
This movie doesnt make a lot of sense because in the - very famous - book, the main character is actually the villain. Which he realises at the end: he is the evil ‘legend’ to the new species of vampires. Americans apparently couldnt handle that so they made the weaker, inconsistent, ending. The book this is based on was actually the FIRST zombie book ever.

2.The part that gave me real respect for Will Smith is the scene where he's talking to the mannequin right after having to kill his best/only friend and says,
"Please say hello to me." THAT'S acting. Where did he go to get that?🤩

4. The wild animals escaped from the Manhattan Zoo.
5. He was saving the bacon for Samantha.
6. There's speculation that he's the bad guy because he's the hunter now.
7. I absolutely fell in love/LUST with Alice Braga after I saw this movie.
8. The female was the leader's squeeze.
9. There's an alternate ending where he survives. I prefer this ending, where he sacrifices himself.

this movie is great right up the ending when it was decided to give this story the "hero" ending. In the book and an alternate ending it is made much clearer that the "vampires" are actually way more intelligent than shown here and Robert Neville is the "Legend" that comes at daytime to steal their people for experiments. Neville is the past to the new species that inherited the earth. Making the dark seekers into mindless rage zombies was terrible. But at least the acting in this movie is top tier.
