Hi Dave! Thanks for your incredible videos. When the E010 error appeared on my Scott e-Genius 920 from 2018 at ever shorter intervals and e-Tube said it is a Torque Sensor error...I searched google for a first advice how to solve it. What finally worked was to change the chainring teeth from 34 to 32, save, and then back to 34 and save. It took 2 or 3 trials, but it finally solved the problem and since then, the error didn't appear again.
Maybe it's some kind of voodoo, i don't know...but in my case it worked.
Greeting and best wishes from Cologne, Germany.

I was getting E010 for about a month intermittently. Finally, the bike would not power on for the first few tries, then finally power on but only work for 100m before E010. I scraped the main power plug pins on the motor, squirted some dialectic grease in, bent the tabs inside the female side of the plug and now it works flawlessly. Give it a try.

Can you elaborate on "bent the tabs inside"? Not sure what you mean. Hoping shimano is sending me a fresh unit but if they kick the can on it, I will be resorting to DIY fixes. This is a relatively new motor I am working with at ~600 miles so I am pretty frustrated to be having this conversation at all with them.

YT Decoy here and had the EO10 error yesterday, had to ride a dead ebike home. The display would stay on the Shimano Steps start up screen no matter what and the bike wouldn't turn on or off, pulling the battery in and out didn't reset the bike and no chance to connect the app via Bluetooth. The battery wasn't charging on or off the bike, the charge light would stay green and not turn to red to indicate a charge cycle had started. The way I managed to get the bike and battery to do what seemed like a 'reset' was to insert my mates decoy battery into my bike, my bike then started up as normal. Put my battery back in and the bike worked fine while my battery was charging again. Appreciate not everyone has a mate with the same bike and battery but this worked in my case. I was ready to send the battery off to YT Mill until we tried this.

    Great video, thank you,
My (twelve month old 2300 miles) Kona Dew E with a Shimano E6100 came up with the error this week, (on an incline) turned it off then on, no problem, following day rode 8 miles, had the error again, also on a steep incline, this time permanently . Bloody hard uphill ride home!
Anyway after leaving the bike for a couple of hours no fault, so managed to update the firmware. Following day same problem after 3 miles. So it's off to the local Shimano service centre next week, where they are going to pursue a warranty claim.
It's very disappointing, bike's never been off road, always used "comfort" mode, and very rarely used the HIGH setting. It's behaved impeccably until now. Prospect of riding out 30 miles, and having to get home without the motor is not something I relish!

Another one with the E010 error. Scott Genius E-Ride 920 from 2019. After 7700 km I got the dammed error. First time I could wait few minutes to cool the motor and continue the way back home. Today, I got the error as soon as start up the system. No force over the pedals, bike stoped, battery contacts cleaned with electric specific cleaner, speed sensor checked with a tester (circuit closes as soon as the wheel magnet pass by) and working fine. I have read about use the App ST Unlocker to change the gear from 34 to 32 and back to 34 but didn't help me... What's next? If I do not find a solution, I'm gonna open the motor myself to clean and grease the parts. Do you know any tutorial about how to do it?

      @TheYorkshireBikeMechanic  Před 2 lety

you maybe right, the motor is with Shimano at the minute.

    •  Před rokem +1

      Not quite...
Now, I'm a professional electronics tech with biking/ebiking as a hobby and mean of travel. I had in service, these days, this motor. Unfortunately pretty much out of context and out of the bike itself but tore it apart quite easily to get to the load cells inspect and clean their contacts. (I am waiting for news if it works or not)
I took half an hour or so to take a deep look at it.
The mainboard is held in place by M3 screws and the phase wires are soldered very close to the switching mosfets. Everything else is plugged with doggy couplings that can pop from vibrations. After unscrewing it desolders easily (wick or pump). The wires are thick and stubby making resoldering easy after wicking the holes clean.
All in all looks serviceable ( with more context) and very hackable.
I might get a chance to trace and sniff signals in it if the client brings the whole bike over...
Never owned proprietary ebikes because all the firmware interlocks and torque sensors for bikes are pretty damn complicated and prone to errors more than failure as they are actually NFCs that send a continuous stream of data at least two bytes long per packet.
I guess gasketing would be a good investment for anyone sporting such bikes.
