    David , blessings to you , Thank you for making these videos, my brother was in a similar state of health but lost his battle with cancer, even when he couldn't get out of bed his trike was upper most in his mind , I inherited his cattrike speed , and rode it for 6 years it was pretty beat up and the frame had cracked 2 x , After growing to love riding a trike I realized I had to buy another one so I went on Facebook Market place and found one for 1000 dollars , Im not disabled but understand the fun and the uniqueness of riding these vehicles.
    My favorite is seeing the look on children's faces when they see me , Thanks Again and sending my good thoughts and energy your way .

    Truly appreciate your videos and being so open sharing your experiences 🙏

      Hi Jason. First let me say I'm sorry about your brother. I lost a sister to cancer about 20 years ago and it's not easy.
      The appeal of a trike is definitely not limited to folks with chronic illnesses or disabilities although the trike does often enable them to get out and ride. I think riding a trike makes just about anyone feel good and helps them rediscover a piece of childhood that had long seemed gone. They are a ton of fun and I think we'll only see more of them in the years to come.
      In the meantime, keep on trikin'!

    We àlso have had code problems, with a Bafang mid drive, showing motor overheating when it was 40 degrees. Sensor replacement fixed it. Re your previous video on 5 problems, we have two Falco batteries mounted on either side of the seat, wired so you can switch one off and the other on, no swapping needed. However, they must be çharged separately. The throttle is useful around town and hills, but you still need to pedal. I don't have an emoji for it, but as the hippies could have said, keep on triking!

    Hello David!
    I'd like to thank you for your great video! You just saved my girlfriend's YT Decoy. We thought it'll gonna need a 900euro motor replacement but cleaning the battery connector with WD-40 specialist contact cleaner. Brushed it a little bit and the error disappeared.
    Thank you so much! :))

    Yes, the Shimano Steps 6100 controller is removable. The contact points on the back will get dirty. I spent a good deal of time figuring this error code out. I switched to the Shimano Steps 8000 display which is much smaller and hard wired. I haven't had this issue since switching. Take care and stay safe!

    • @DavidRidesaTrike
      @DavidRidesaTrike  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Sylvia. My controller isn't removable but there are two grouped sets of wires that "plug in" to the controller. I've had other issues where I had to make sue those were fully inserted and locked. Shimano makes a special tool to remove and put these back in and it comes with the current E8000.

      @@TravelsByTrike They do! And honestly, I'm not so sure about this connection system with two wire harnesses. Having overseen an electronics service department for almost 20 years, I know there are better ways of doing this. But, I highly doubt Shimano is going to come calling to ask my opinion! 😆

    David, I’m a rough rider, a lot of off roading and trail riding as well as a lot of highway shoulders with pot holes. And then there’s the issue of sand and salt. But, on a ride last week I didn’t get error codes on my E 8000, I just lost power. Blank screen. My usual solution is stop, lean the trike up on it’s side and check the connections. First the sleeved connection, battery to computer. Then battery snugness, similar to your problem. Silvia did a episode a year or so ago. My problem wasn’t either. While still on the ride I went unassisted directly to the hardware store and bought a can of electrical connection spray ( again similar to your solution )and applied to both. Still a problem. I then removed the computer from it’s holder and cleaned and sprayed the two connection points. That was the trick. Put on 120 miles this week with out a problem. I keep the can of spray in one the saddle bags. The funny thing, with the outages on that ride my odometer didn’t lose a mile. Strange.
    I should probably do an episode of my problem and the approach to the solution. It’s most likely been covered by others before.
    Glad to hear you’re off that nasty chemo and you’re on to the better one. BTW, I think you would look good with a goatee. Aloha

      @DavidRidesaTrike  Před 2 lety +1

      lol, you're very wrong about the goatee. Actually, a thousand years ago I hade a full beard. Kept it about a year and decided it was a pain to maintain and I'd rather just shave.
      I had tried various contact point solutions as well including removing the two wire groups that go into my computer and spraying compressed air. I'm just glad this was a simple solution!

    The problem resolved by the anti-oxidant joint compound is one caused by dissimilar metals being used on each side of the electrical connection. It is not a problem of vibration, dust, dirt, or moisture. The problem exists chemically at a microscopic level and you can think of it as "chemical rust". This is a Shimano problem and not an ICE Trike problem. I have a two week old ICE Adventure HD 26 Full Suspension with Shimano STEPS EP8 E-Assist and a Enviolo Hub. My 630 WH battery has plenty of the anti-oxidant joint compound as it came from ICE. They (either ICE or Shimano) are being pro-active in addressing the problem. I am assuming ICE did this however it may have been applied by Shimano. In either case, new ICE Trikes have the anti-oxidant joint compound applied at the battery connection. I am very glad you mentioned the E010 error code and how it was resolved. Your doing a great job David. THANKS!😊

    • @DavidRidesaTrike
      @DavidRidesaTrike  Před 2 lety

      Hi Dennis. I assumed that the contracts on both the battery and battery mount were copper. Is this not the case? That's interesting that you received the trike with the grease on it. I'm sure it was ICE that did it and not Shimano. Curious though - was there a lot of grease or just enough to cover the contacts?

    • @dennisaudet5941
      @dennisaudet5941 Před 2 lety

      There was a lot of the joint compound (looks like jelly/grease). My first impression was to clean it off. I'm glad I did not touch it. I fully understand why it is there. The process is known as "dielectric corrosion" caused by electricity flowing across a joint of dissimilar metals. This is a problem that had to be addressed in the aerospace industry as well as the defense industry as well as others. It had become a common point of failure.

      Yep, I now carry it with me. We haven't had any real rain for quite a while now and "my" trail is extremely dusty. Yesterday I got the error code again and I thought it might be due to all the dust. I cleaned off the contacts, applied the grease and today I rode about 23 miles with no problem.

      @@tomboyd9053 The error code popped up again this past Friday, exactly two weeks after getting my trike back. The trail is extremely dusty right now so when I got home I cleaned the contacts and reapplied the grease. I rode again on Saturday and Sunday and all was fine. So I think the fine dust that gets on EVERYTHING when I ride is fine enough to get into the contacts and this will just be a regular maintenance item I'll have to do until we get some rain and the trail isn't so dry.

    David, you probably will have to clean all contact points either after each ride and apply that grease or every other trip. The dust from most these trails will find that grease and cause more problems. If it was me I would check after each ride and if any dust or dirt is showing clean the grease off and apply the grease. It might save you from more head aches.
    Always nice seeing you riding.

    • @DavidRidesaTrike

      Thanks. My first thought once this was solved was, how often should I reapply the grease and clean the contacts? Since ICE had told my LBS that they've seen quite a bit of this and to use the grease, I decided to email them to ask how often I should clean and reapply given the dusty trail. They said every 2-3 months. I was pretty surprised because I was thinking once a week if not more often. So I've decided to ride without doing anything for either as long as I can or until the 2 month mark, simply because I want to know how long the grease will continue to work. So far, it's been a week and about a week and about 94 miles with no issues
