- These Actors Had To Undergo Some Pretty Painful Makeup Prosthetics For The Pirates Of The Caribbean Movies. Subscribe: bit.ly/Subscribe-to-Things
The Pirates of the Caribbean films are some of the most visually striking movies of recent years. The costume design, makeup, and practical effects used on actors helped sell the 1700’s pirate infested landscape. However, achieving this look isn’t as fun as it may sound. A multitude of actors, from the main cast to extras, had to go through tedious and gruelling processes to transform into the desired look of a character. To achieve such detailed looks, the makeup and prosthetic process can take several hours of work everyday. This isn’t the most comfortable process, and many actors have expressed grief over this. And removing that makeup is no easy task either. Which actors experienced the most pain and discomfort when in full makeup and costuming for their character? Who had to wear painful prosthetics that left them with undesirable skin side effects?
When you have films that are so large scale and big budget, you need the best makeup effects around. Creating Captain Jack Sparrow, Davy Jones, Elizabeth Swan, Will Turner, Hector Barbossa, and the rest of the iconic cast takes more than just your average makeup. It may not have been an easy or pretty process transforming into these characters, but the end result is more than worth it. If we see more Pirates films in the future, we wonder how they will continue to improve on the already impressive visual looks their characters have. What actor do you think had it the worst getting into their makeup and costume?

I really hate when someone post a Fake Thumbnail on their videos. It was all a CG Character.
Yup
@@lewiskamryn6813 oh yeah. And a second scammer is on the way. Below my comment.
still a cool video tho
Mhm. Davy Jones’s face is fully CGI. He only did a little makeup around his eye and mouth
@@unibocchi and some fake tentacles during the scene where will steals the key
"Jack Sparrow had special contact lenses that were actually sun glasses."
Is this mass produced? why is this not mass produced!? I want some!
Captain, Captain Jack Sparrow. Savvy?

Parley?
Yes. I have contact lens that are sun glasses.
Me too
This is one of the few reasons why pirates of caribbean franchise is loved by so many.
Jack Davenport did get a grittier, grimier pirate look later on in the franchise, so I guess that made him happier. Also Norrington is one of the most underrated characters in the Pirates movies.
@Johnny Depp bro you ain’t jhonny depp
I think he looked cool as Commodore Norrington. It looked great on him. I also love him in Kingsman.
i mean he was covered in shit most of the time
Davenport did NOT look like an idiot! He is a handsome man who looked like a proper British Sailor. He was stunning!!
Norrington was a likeable character and he’s handsome
At least norrington doesn’t look like “an ice cream” in Dead Man’s Chest.
Barbossa is a character rivaling that of Sparrow. Magnificent acting from Geoffrey Rush! And congrats to casting!
I do have quite the Pirates of the Caribbean DVD collection.
Me too UwU
Same here 😊
Cool
Mee too
I have a diney +hot star
The one with corsets should not have happened, real corsets just make your own bodyshape more prominent, theyre not supposed to hurt and work like a bra. If it does hurt its either not properly made or you tightened it too much
@Ami Thomas oh ok! Tho now corsets shouldnt hurt since we can make them better, and the fact that the actress was hurt while wearing a corset is not a good sign
@Ami Thomas yes, but wouldnt it be safer to make sure the actress wasnt in pain? Imo the producer should have thought more about the actress than how close it was to being correct, most people wont notice either way
@Ami Thomas oh yea thats true, i kinda forgot how fucked up it actually is
@Kraken I'm glad they are. they shouldn't exist in the first place. our oceans are so damaged already.
@Kraken Tight lacing was only popular among the wealthy. Working women couldn't tie their corsets that tight because it would restrict their movement. People also forget that paintings/drawings were exaggerated and photos were actually altered as well to show how thin a woman's waist, when in reality it wasn't that thin at all.
But I agree that most people wear corsets today to thin their waist and not for support or comfort.
The risks all these guys took to give us the best pirate show in history is so generous and wonderful I absolutely and positively love all the actors and actresses ❤️😌
Bill Nighy may have felt left out in filming, but by God does he have one of the best characters in the final products
Narrator took the words right out of my mouth. Guess I should've let the chapter play out.
How did he feel left out?can u kindly explain.
@@salmamoalim6656 how about watch the video before you go replying to comments about said video
@@CamoSquid I just watched it and he said that he was dissappointed about the role since it was a pirate movie and was hoping to dress as a pirate.
@@salmamoalim6656 Imagine on set, everyone wears their pirate outfits while you only wear a motion tracking suit with dots on your face.
in the end, he did finaly get a scene in full pirate garb in the 3rd film. and man did he look good.
Omg actors had lot of struggling and wearing prosthetics is sooo difficult for me but I can't believe for the actors shout out to the actors and I love pirates of the Caribbean!!! And that prosthetics are really hurtful😔😔
Wait you actually believe this
Even with all the effort that went into the movies, they could have at least given Kira a proper corset that fit properly. Corsets are meant to be form fitting, supportive and comfortable. *sigh...
I think a big problem with film productions is that they mostly don't have the budget or even the time to custom fit a corset (off the rack corsets rarely fitting well). Maybe even worse than that is that corsets absolutely have to be broken in! It's a process. At first it's worn for a very short time and each day a bit longer. That way, the fabric and the structure mold themselves to the body with its natural heat. Again, they probably don't let the actors have their garments ahead of time in order to do this which would most like spare them a lot of discomfort...
After watching this probably going to watch all those movies again
Hats off to the makers and costume designers of this legendary movie 🤘🤘🤘
I really thought Davey Jones was an actor wearing prosthetics and thought only the tentacles were CGI because they would move in a way that couldn’t be accomplished through practical effects. Maybe these days, but then? Maybe with wires, but even then they would have to erased with CGI.
The CGI in 2 and 3 is better than Avengers Endgame if just less abundant
If the movies was made today, everything would have been cgi
@@organizationxiii5314 Endgame CGI is trash
@@giovanniferrigno9283 relatively to potc 2/3 but not to most movies

@Funtime foxy yeah but I feel bad for these actors
@Funtime foxy LMAO It's bullshit
@Funtime foxy OK?
Good joke
Really being an actor/actress means that you are willing to go through things like this
Prosthetics and CGI plays a large role in Pirates of the Caribbean. After all it would take more than just makeup to create the skeletal crew that shocked us all when the first movie came out. And prosthetic tentacles and other attachments wouldn’t have done well in the second movie. Plus, unless you can find a real, live mermaid that resembles those found in the ill-fated fourth movie. Ever since the rise of CGI the special effects world has been kind of leaning towards computer effects in a very big way.
When he said Bill nye, I was like omg bill nye the science guy?, And the I saw his face and I was like I was so excited but it's not him 💔
Heh same every time the credits roll I scream BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY
Bill Nighy, I think is the spelling. I have seen him sans tentacles in other movies. Poor Ice cream Norrington. LOL. he got rid of it for a while, in one movie.
Thought same thing
They mispronounced his name.
Bill Nighy is pronounced Nigh-ee so almost like you’re over exaggerating the last part of Bill Nye’s surname.
Salazar and his crew actually wasn’t pirates they were pirate hunters
8:25 i like james norinton he uses my 2 favorit costume in the mulvie, the first that i most like is the red coats
They just did a great job. Just to make us entertained. Saute for your awesome work 💖
Yeah but nobody appreciate makeup artist
I’d probably fell the same way as Davenport, but at the same time it really felt natural and whenever I think of those movies he always comes to mind
Sweethearts...A corset is NOT uncomfortable if it perfectly fits you...
@@black_forest_ okay I have to admit that I am a liiittle bit underweight and that this is probably the only reason why I got the 20 inches one time in my life during a Theaterplay breathing...wasn't Possible most of the time but I wasn't in pain or something like that
@@black_forest_ I actually think that it's quite comfortable 😅
my great grandmas waist was 14 inches-
Seriously. My corsets are some of my most comfortable garments!
Yea after 20 years of wearing one maybe. But if you're not deformed from it doesn't it kind of defeat the purpose of a corset?
Interesting video as always 👌
the makeup is bloody amazing!
Always the best. Appriciate and respect for all the actors and crew for the dedication ...🙏🙏🙏🌹💐👌
Yes, it would be really cool if they made another Pirates Caribbean movie. If they do I’ll see it the first day it comes out.

This thumbnail is quite misleading because they never used practical effects for Davy Jones
How did they put the maikup so real and cool🤩
Always my favorite movie ✌️✌️
The thing about Corsets that I find funny is that they weren't actually that uncomfortable when they were popularised since they were made to actually fit women's bodies and they were worn so long that women would quickly get used to them, however, the corsets made for actresses today aren't made properly and they don't wear them long enough to get used to them, this is probably cause the directors wanted to crunch on time
BLOODY PIRATES 😌😍😌
Bohot vi wonderful series thi yaar jack saparow👿👿😳😳😱😱👌👌👌
I always liked Norrington loll. He may think he looks like an ice cream but I think he looks awesome loll. Classic British
Bill Nighy was jealous of all his costars when he looked the best out of all of them on screen
As soon as I saw this video on my recommended, I instantly heard the Pirates of the Caribbean theme song
I'm kicking myself for only just realising that was Naomi Harris 🤣
Yeah same the women in James Bond

Bill Nye the undead guy
If a corset makes it difficult to breath or your uncomfortable in it, odds are that it's either not the right size or you're waring it wrong (sincerely someone who owns and wares corsets )
Me when i see the thumbnail: ok, first of all, no!
Yeah lol
When my mom was little Johnny Depp was SO famous she told me and that was like 37 years ago
I think the British guys were the sexiest ones there because of how nicely they dressed, I wish men and women would dress like that again..
I just finished re-watching all Pirates of Caribbean movies 😌 and now here we are, CZcams algorithm is creepy.
Cool
7:47 bill nighy the sience guy!
No one wore false teeth. In the behind the scenes and DVD ROM extras the costuming and make-up directors stated that it affected the actors speech. Ergo they came up with a painless and easy solution. They applied different color mixtures to the teeth of the pirates to get that rotting effect for the teeth.
I love pirates of the Caribbean movies one of my favorites
@Johnny Depp since your first movie of pirates of the Caribbean curse of the black pearl
@Johnny Depp No I don't have telegram or any of those
Although Davenport may not have been happy with his costume.. We were happy seeing him and never wanted to die.. In the movie
Bill Nighy the science guy lol
I'm here for Davy Jones , best CGI ever 🔥
l really hope that JD is reinstated to his former glory at Disney, and many more Caribbean movies are made .
Davenport got his wish in the second film though. So everyone is a winner in the Pirate films… even the audience.😁

So, you know the thumbnail? The Davey Jones makeup? THAT IS A LIE. It is CGI. Davey Jones is CGI.
need more pirates of carribean
when you realize your beard was on fire 3:07
And of all the phrostetics, they put the only full CGI character thanks to motion capture in the cover for the video. A phrostetic like this would be un-comfortable to wear and act with, and by the way the effect was so perfect that Jones actually looks more real than many CGI creatures in this time
As an OCD patient,William's father's makeup was so disturbing for me. Was it necessary to make him look so disturbing?! Even he got rashes from that makeup look
Nice
POV: you only came here because the thumbnail looked cool
Yes
How hard is be doing a efetcts in a film! We need a lot of ours!
at least I don't do drama!
We should all the artist who really made the movie fantastic.
I absolutely love the gorgeous fashion from the 1700s but even I wouldn't want to wear a corset. Those things could double as torture devices if you ask me. I have huge respect for Keira Knightley agreeing to wear a real one in order for the movie to look as authentic as possible. I honestly think she doesn't get enough credit for that.
I understand not wanting to wear a corset however I cannot allow you to live thinking that corsets are uncomfortable and torture devices.
Corsets are meant to fitted to your body and be comfortable. The only situations where it would hurt is if you wore it too tight or it wasn’t he right size/measurements/style for your body. There are precautions and things you have to in order to make sure your corset is molded to your body and your body alone. A lot of times actresses are put into corsets without do the right things to make sure it fits them perfectly. That plus wearing it tighter that it should be for longer than you should If you haven’t seasoned it (seasoning it is a term used to describe making a corset fit you) yet can be uncomfortable and painful to the wearer. It can even hurt and or damage the person wearing one if worn incorrectly.
I would go into greater detail but I’ve already exhausted all my knowledge else where. I think I have a playlist labeled Corset on my profile though I’m not sure how helpful it’ll be since I didn’t include ALL the videos I learned from
I want to be a pirate next Halloween now…
