  • Lucinda Williams will be inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame on October 28, 2021.
Louisiana-born Lucinda Williams has traveled a long road since her 1979 debut, Ramblin’ on My Mind, followed by Happy Woman Blues, her first album of originals released over forty years ago in 1980. (She says that she’s still “the same girl” except that now “I have a bigger fan base and I can afford to stay at better hotels.”) Over the course of fourteen remarkable albums, three Grammy awards, and countless accolades, including Time’s Songwriter of the Year of 2001, Williams is one of music’s most revered artists, beloved for her singular vocals and extraordinary songs. In 2018, she celebrated the 20th Anniversary of her watershed Americana album Car Wheels on a Gravel Road with a sold-out milestone tour. The pioneering artist returned to the gritty blues foundation that first inspired her as a young singer-songwriter in the late 1970s, releasing a career highlight, 2020’s Good Souls Better Angels, to critical raves and a pair of Grammy nominations, hailed “one of the most searing, potent and passionate albums you’ll hear” by American Songwriter. Williams has appeared on Austin City Limits four times, in 1990, 1992 (as part of a songwriters special), 1999 and 2008.

The best ever. My favorite poet and artist and the best ever.
I was raised and still live 40 miles from Slidell and I lived and worked in Tupelo as an adult. Traveled to and through Memphis. Everywhere Lucinda sings for, I feel a connection. Even live at HOB ...fortunately seated in the Foundation Room in NOLA, I was blown away and will never forget.
By God's grace, I was turned on to Lucinda Williams and her songwriting is a gift.

I first got to know her singing and songwriting when I bought her album "Car Wheels On a Gravel Road," and haven't stopped listening since.

I also first heard of her in the 90's when my friend bought Car Wheels and picked up most of her CD's after that. She was the last concert I ever went to... an outdoor concert in Seattle, sometime in the mid 2000's. Unfortunately Seattle decided to end the show early since it was an outdoor venue, much to the chagrin of the audience and Lucinda. It was a great show even though all parties wanted it to continue! Congratulations on your induction into the Hall of Fame for ACL! One of the great singer/songwriters!

Singer/songwriter/performer/legend. Lucinda williams is all of these wrapped up in one package. She tells a story with her music,a true heartfelt story that was the reason i started following her.when you are a fan of hers, its not only songs you listen to, but a journey,a very personal one at that, which you are treated to. She is just awesome❤️

Since reading about "Passionate Kisses" then 'Sweet Old World' I was pretty sure this was someone I would dig. And when I got those records I knew I was very, very right. Been following her, seeing her live, getting the albums ever since. Gonna see her next month (hopefully). Congrats to one of the true greats out there.

Damn...the road is a rough life!!
Look at the difference in appearance from her early appearances to her in this interview.
Every line on her face has a story to tell, and nobody does it better than Lucinda Williams in giving her most deepest and innermost feelings on the human condition.🎤🎸
The male counterpart to her would be Tom Petty, he also had the same type of understanding of the human condition and could be singing to 20,000 people in an arena and everyone of those 20,000 thought he was speaking directly to them.

This is great. Truly represents the test of TIME when it comes to "Categorization". Same as Eva Cassidy (yes, mainly her voice, but
my GOD, what Eva COULD have done with the support of a label being SMART enough to know her unique talents) -as most of you know, Eva Cassidy never got a record contract, BECAUSE the dumb shits didn't KNOW where to "Categorize her)..... same as Connie Converse, etc.
It is people like Lucinda who had the "stick with it-ness" to rise above the "quick turnaround".....SONGS. are ALL there. Keep an eye on
Joanna Sternberg (my favorite NEW artist). Joanna (IMO) is like a cross between Daniel Johnston and Connie Converse. Please, don't lets let
Joanna slip through the cracks. xo TY ACL for these wonderful new montages. I love Lucinda and Shawn Colvin soo very much. Joanna Sternberg is next.
If Austin Loved (and continues to love Daniel Johnston), please listen to Joanna Sternberg. Same "heart" effect. x
