I backed up my video, audio, images and other old projects around 2005 when I ran out of room on my HDD. I knew the life span of CD/DVDs and I try to buy the gold ones whenever I could.
In 2021 I bought a 8 bay HDD enclosure to archive it. One disc have many files that can not be copied to 100% completely. I have to use AnyReader and Unstoppable Copier to ignore the bad sectors. Many files are corrupted. Audio files have hiccups, images are not full, video have missing segments and compressed files does not extract everything.
Man, LRG to use low quality disc? ouch

Yes, you are buying a box. That doesn't excuse that they don't have archival level CDs. But yes, that is what you are doing when you buy a product like this... And if they couldn't afford high quality DVDs what they should have done is included a USB with the files that would have been on the CD, because USB sticks don't deteriorate as fast or just sell the box, I'm sure there's a lot of people who would buy the box even if they knew it was empty for some of these games.

According to him, there was this American DVD company who worked for... Was it Paramount or Universal? Anyways, they had severe issues and in some cases, everything of a certain movie doesn't work anymore and most of the DVD they made are dead.
There is no such known issues with Blueray discs though so there is that.

The biggest problem is the discs they’re producing don’t even run in many 3DO consoles. They weren’t designed with CDRs in mind. Either way this just isn’t acceptable even if the games did work, it’s still substandard quality where people are paying for a real disc.

Ummm Kneon a number of us still remember 3DO for a variety of reasons. They were the first ones to get "Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo" at the time where you can play Akuma and apparently it has great original music. It got an original version of Road Rash at the time which Sega Lord X swears by and sadly the ports on the Saturn and Playstation had the licensed music taken out. The first "Need For Speed" was on it.
I think one of the most remarkable things was that 3DO was the first system to have "Policenauts", the "Snatcher" prequel by Hideo Kojima. I remember playing Gex on it at a store and that was def. a game to buy for it.
Oh yeah and 3DO had the full Samurai Showdown. The other non NeoGeo console versions nixed Earthquake while the 3DO version included him.
Geeky the bad discs for Warner I believe predated the big digital push. I get the impression this was a lack of quality control.

The 3D0 was actually one of the bigger attempts for a third party publisher to "make" a console, since the head of the vision was Trip Hawkins. Since he was the head, there was a lot of EA games on it, including one of the better versions of Wing Commander 3. Crystal Dynamics was a big developer on it too. The first Gex and Legacy of Kain games were on it. It also had a collection of "adult" content on it as well. The hefty price tag really did the console in when the much cheaper PlayStation came out. It did have a better quality video player though. I'd say the failure is a major reason to this day why we don't see more 3rd parties try their hand at console development.
Plumbers Don't Wear Ties was a "game" on that console that was sort of a choose your own adventure thing, where you were guiding a dude through this story for him to ask out a hot blonde girl. It's barely a game at all...and most people who played it were hoping to see a lot more of that blonde. It's full of jokes and gags that probably were only funny to the people who were making it. If I were making a list of worst games of all time, it would certainly be somewhere on that list.
That being said, Plumbers Don't Wear Ties was not alone, as there were a lot barely games on the 3D0. It just is pretty infamous because it's about as close to being an adult game as there was this side of Leisure Suit Larry.

Shantae was $5 more than the old gbc game costs. They just did the most sequel and it’s $60, $20 more than the era costs for the same minimalist game box and manual and even yet old shantae got a card now that’s extra too. They’re crooks.

The original pressed discs for PlayStation 1 for example were printed on pressed discs with black ink of some sort into the CD itself, the wobble burning technique also added a extra layer of DRM protection for alot of the games. Aswell as these discs were burned on 1x speed but the PlayStation can play games up to 10x speed, 16x speed I think it breaks for alot of games, but there's a chance 16x disc speed games work in some scenarios potentionally. But I have only recalled a 10x speed game to work as the maximum speed but I may be wrong on that, who knows really.
So yeah, a 1x speed original PlayStation disc is more sought after than a cheap CD-R disc that has been burned with a BIN, ISO, and so on file extension with the content of the media of the game or demo disc, movie disc, and so on. It's a disgrace that companies or private persons sell CD-R's I know it's very silly, but some actually do and try to make money from it. It's incredibly funny to me, but also a bit of a scumbag move to try and do that, but some are desperate and are in dire need of money so they take desperate measures and often look bad doing it.
Especially collectors of video games, they like their games in original release. That's why printed discs often burned at 16x speed because it's faster to burn them, they often sell very poorly and they sometimes don't run well on some of the video game consoles. Some are not even tested I presume, so imagine them selling a disc that is burned at the wrong speed and it doesn't even work to play it, LOL. That's hilarious. I'd imagine they have gone through testing the discs before hand, I'm sure they're not that bad at this, but if they don't they will look bad for sure.
It's a crazy time for the markets around the world to be selling cheap CD-R's with old retro games on them, especially if they are low effort made, and no quality to them.
