When I was an editor for a magazine, the co-publisher told me that men wanted to look at beautiful women and that women wanted to look at beautiful women and that is why there was a push to have attractive women on the cover of our magazine.
And the co-publisher was a woman.

It’s like, have these devs seen how long people of both genders will spend on a character creation screen getting their character just so? I know I can spend a while on characters of either gender just tweaking features and color pallets. There’s even tutorial videos by female players devoted to tips for improving your character’s look!

@@jacobdewar4258 At least they found a way to make the idea o being a middle-aged Italian pizza chef of a man fun, by making him bat-shit insane in the head, but also making him bat-shit insanely fast and powerful, along with giving him an arc of going from a loser with anxiety to a man who's so fed up with the bullshit, he gets mad and does something about it, by sticking it to the final boss for fucking with him the entire time in an over-the-top cartoonish, but badass way.
In a way the made the middle-aged man of a protagonist cool by giving him power and a character that makes up for his appearance and being a bit of a loser. A true character with flaws, but has strengths and decently written story that makes us want to enjoy him.

Mortal Kombat is the perfect example. Mortal Kombat 9 characters look absolutely amazing and 10x better than MK1 and that's a difference of about just 10 years. Just look at Jade and Sindel, they straight up look from another game franchise compared to now. 2000s was an explosion of great art, the women in Unreal Tournament and most other action/shooter games looked absolutely georgeous whilst the men were buff as hell.
The developers really drank the Anita Sarkeesian coolaid about the male gaze. I hope we have more diversity of characters rather than plain Joes and Janes going forward and we don't have to rely on Japan to give us what we want.

1. I was so purchase Neon's tomb raider game.
2. One of the main reasons why Stellar blade is going make is because these shenanigans. Everyone including women just want a female character to actually look like an attractive woman.

As someone who has started 3D modeling, YES. They have the exact models of the actors from capture, and make purposefully artistic choices in the model. Every vertex is intentional to some degree in 3D modeling, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
I mean someone can be bad at modeling, but no amount of bad skill will accidentally ruin a capture like that.

It's fun to collect treasure and beat up and kill bad guys. It's not fun to be lectured on moral issues. What does Lara do now? Go to auctions? Sit at home, covered in the ashes of repentance? There is no way it's a system limitation when there are near photorealistic models out there done by artists with a keen eye, years of experience, and newly devised AI systems. These frompy character models are what I - an amateur - would slap together in Blender for a game about mutant sapient potatoes masquerading as human to take over the world.
The problem is when you start breaking it down, first of all you look at the model versus the character. Then you look at other male characters like the one from Jedi survivor who is basically a one for one with his in-game character.
Then you look over at Japan who very consistently perfectly replicates the actors with the in-game likenesses.
You can tell exactly where the problem lies, it's entirely with Western developers and it's entirely with female characters and only female characters.
Someone within one of these big companies anonymously wrote a whole thing about how they've been forced to make female characters and only female characters flat and more androgynous and manish for lack of a better word. I am not surprised considering things that have come out from nether realms and WB and I mean look at those characters from the last Mortal Kombat, Nuff said.
Look no further than all Actors and Actresses scanned for Death Stranding and how close the female Characters are to their RL counterparts.
Its not, just look at the male characters. Near perfect recreations of the models they're based on. Or just look at older games like the Witcher 3.

It isn't the case that these female video game characters are simply being made average-looking .They're being made to look like trans-women, with their pronounced jaw lines, broad foreheads. angular facial features, etc. This is almost assuredly the DEI crowd's latest salvo in the war to normalize trans ideology to all those toxic male gamers who they believe need to be taught that this is what a "real woman" can look like.

I dont understand why people feel they need to be represented in fiction. When I'm playing a hack n slash, I don't want the character I'm controlling to be a middle aged' slightly balding dad bod saviour, killing monsters to a heavy metal backing track I'm waiting for the next god of war instalment where kratos slips a disc and spends half a year recovering and complaining about his back. Honestly, the basic idea underpinning this isn't new - Kurt Vonnigut was more or less predicting the basic idea in the '60s with "Harrison Bergeron", and Rod Serling's 'Twilight Zone' was hitting the same theme in the '50s with "Eye of the Beholder" - the basic idea being that the Total State is impotent to lift everyone up to equal beauty, but can much more easily mandate that everyone under their boots be lowered to nearly the same level of ugliness....
The most amazing thing about this is how they (dev studios) succesfully managed to gaslight many women into accepting that uglifying women is for their own good.
Imagine if, instead on women vs men, they did this with black vs white characters, telling black people "it's for their own good". I wonder if they'd still be as succesful with the gaslighting.

I’ve been saying this since Dragon Age Inquisition and Mass Effect Andromeda. They made dude’s look like Greek God chisel face physic, whereas the women looked like they used poison oak to clean their face and punched themselves constantly.
Now the dudes in the current Assassins Creed series looked amazing while this creature in the new Star Wars game was purposely uglier since the real face model looks beautiful. Ubisoft really does have a hard-on on uglifying women and Greek God-ified men.

These women need to know what these game companies are doing to their likenesses, and they need to put their collective foot down. These game companies are making these good looking women look bad on purpose, and they need to make a stand, stand up for themselves and realistic beautiful women (that ACTUALLY DO EXIST) everywhere!
When models sign the contract, they're probably unaware that they're going to get uglied up (most companies don't hire attractive models to make them ugly). But once they sign it, they don't have a say in what happens with their likeness. Sucks for them.

These dev studios are doing this on purpose. The men are always spot on but the women are made ugly on purpose. Now I think that's sexist.
