I've been saying this for a long time: one thing WG could do to nerf this tank, is limit its matchmaking to tier 10 only. Tier 8 vehicles should never have to face this tank.

Totally agree. I keep giving feedback to Wargaming that these tanks should NOT see tier 8. In fact that tank should see tier 10 only.

The 279e should barely be able to turn as in the real world the prototype could barely turn due to its unique track layout. If WOT would severely reduce its turning speed that would be the perfect nerf. Then you would have a good chance to get to its sides or rear to shoot it.
i would say wg should double the time it takes to repair the tracks since in real life its actually hard to repair the track in the inside if they got damaged
Bruh its a Video game… if we’re wanna simulate something because of real life, might as well make majority of the tanks just one-shotable too then? or even better make every german tank break down every few mins, because most of them were notorious to engine and transmission failure in real life..

This isn't even really a 279 though, it is object 726. As a fictional project, wargaming can make up stats
It can turn very good on dirt/mud due to the tracks spreading the weight out it can’t turn very good on concrete tho
Just imagine, Wargaming's original plan was to introduce the *real* Object 279 as a Tier 10 reward vehicle. They even fully modeled it. They went with the Object 726 instead (and renamed it 279(e) for some reason) because the real 279 would've been even more ridiculously broken. It'd have the Object 277's 130mm gun, 55 km/h top speed, and thicker armor that's so sloped even Jaegeru HEAT shells would probably have less that 33% chance of penning from the front.
The pre-nerf 279(e) was basically a Tier 11 heavy. If the real Object 279 had been added, it would be a Tier 12.
That thing is OP in WT where there are missiles and bombs flying around, imagine in WOT where the highest penetration is a merely 420

The huge problem is that this tank forces people to use gold to even stand a sliver of a chance, regardles of how well the 279e is positioned. There are people out there who either can not afford gold ammo or will not use it - and in those cases the 279e is just the most OP tank imaginable...
I would indeed like to see an armor nerf, either by reducing the front plate so that you can actually pen it when face hugging and pointing your gun down or by reducing the sides of the front plate, so that it actually gets weaker when it tries to angle. I don't see a problem with the lacking lower plate or the fact that you can't track and damage it at the same time. Thats this tanks spirit after all... was bothers me more is that even when it doesn't use its gun depression, doesn't bait the enemy into shooting the tracks by rocking itself up a pile of rubble, but instead just sits out in the open or comes around a corner you can't pen it either. If it would require the player to do unconventional things in order to succeed that would make it a great tank. If you can drive like a complete donkey and still not get pened - thats the stupid part.

People can afford t10 tanks without spending money. If you can afford t10 tanks you can afford to buy 50k in gold rounds every blue moon.
you can actually do that already(shooting at the upper plate by face hugging) but do need a TD with a minimum of 300mm+ pen (standard round) or maybe a rinoceronte is sufficient but I understand your concern. I've face hugged a 279e once in the 103-0 and pen him for with 5 shots for 1.4K dmg(but I don't remember if it's gold or regular ammo)
The one thing that makes it OP is the armor lay out which i guess isnt that easy to change. If you dont blast it with high pen HESH or HEAT it basically shits all over the team and against tier 8s they might as well drown themselves, five their 8 tanks against one of these things recently, half of them shit their pants and hid instead of swamping it. It killed them all including me, still bouncing off the rear armor at point black ramge twice in a light tank
armor layout is easy to change. just add a giant cupola (like the one that its IRL counterpart have), problem solved. WG removed cupolas before, adding one back in should be easy enough

Only when it's angled upwards. Flat on even a Maus or 60TP can pen the upper plate without problems.
@@picklejho5833 I remember when I used to play with my Maus, I could not reliably pen the upper plate from point blank. It would have probably helped to use gold ammo, but that shouldn't be the norm.
@@ChrisPC39 The 279 would be a sad excuse of a heavy tank if you could pen it's upper plate frontally with 250mm penetration.
If you want to play economic you still have the option to flank it or go for the cupola.
@@picklejho5833 the problem with the 279 is you functionally get better armour then a maus frontally. While going double the speed. The maus can be shot in the lower plate and penned fairly easily by almost every heavy and medium tank of its tier. The 279E does not even have a lower plate, does not need to angle the turret, and becomes invulnerable as soon as it wedges itself up by a few degrees on a piece of rubble.

bro just accept that your garbage, you can easily pen a 279e front plate with tier 8s if you have a brain.
You should never be shooting this thing frontally, that's proof of poor location and tank skills on your part. There are weaker points on the front but this thing should always be flanked, which can be hard in pubs due to lack of communication ability. In a competitive mode with a mic and friends these tanks are pretty easy to isolate and destroy.

WG really needs to change the missions which you need to do in order to get the 279e, because some missions since the HE nerf are basically fckng impossible. Like those missions requiring you to do a set amount of crits over a number of battle or do x crits 3 times in a row.

I am sorry, but when I reed some comments, many people probably never played the tank or dont understand it.
People wants an armour nerf but cant understand that if you do it, the tank basically becomes useless because of shape of the hull. Even now, if you have a taller tank, it's not that difficult to pen on flat terrain.
The main reason why it can bounce so much, is when players are angling the hull. On flat it's pennable and you still have two cupolas that are not that small.
People dont understand that nerfing a tank doesn't mean to destroy it. In the current state, the tank is fine. When it can angle, that can be toxic, but is it worse than a 705a side scrapping ? Not sure.
As stated below numerous times, it wasn't the gun or mobility that are the problem. The problem is its armour profile. Against tier 8's it is almost impossible to do anything against it. Hell, that applies to some tier 9's and 10's as well. Yes, I agree that the grind to the tank is long and arduous so, the tank does deserve to be commiserate to that, but the tank, as it stands, is still too strong.

It took only 4 years for WG to nerf this tank. WG realy shouldn't give the best tanks to the best players.
The MM is so broken, when you try to improve, and you come up against this or the Chieftain and your team has no counter. The MM needs fixed, so that if you play this, then the other team gets one or you wait to play. Just like they fixed it with the EBR's. If they can change the MM for those, they can for these.
Sounds like a skill issue. Chieftain and 279 aren't very Op anymore. Sconq and 277 literally outperform both of them at this point.
I think it should be somewhat strong and good to where its actually worth the painful long grind this tank is but it shouldnt be absolutely broken to where if you have a few of them on your team it pretty much mean you already win
Had a battle against a team that had a 279e on their side yesterday. The 279e lead the push with 3 heavies behind it. They just chewed through everyone. IMHO its still way over powered. QB went easy on WG in this video. Shilling once again for WG and WoT. This tank should not be allowed in random battles nor should tier 8 tanks on down ever have to face off against it.

Before the Amx was nerfed its large gun could match the 279 and Chief. But ither than that to reliably pen this tank from the fron you need aboit 340 heat+. T8s just shouldnt see thosr tanks because they have no good way to deal with that tabk that doesnt rely on luck. I saw one push right down the 1-2 line on prokorovka by himself with 6 tabks all shooting at him. Litteraly had no care in the world because there wasnt a ta k on our team that could pen him without being behind him.

Was it me, or did most of the ppl that came across the 279e just check out, instead of actually trying to play against it, the T-10 and VK being a prime example.
Whenever I see this thing in my arty, it gets most of my focus.

Shots that go where you aim them? And then penetrate the armor they find there?!?! HAX!!!! That stopped happening for me a month after they released the subscription.
Best way to kill 279e is play is4 and just shoot heat anywhere on the upper plate, the 279e didn't need a nerf the tank isn't even good.

The problem with this tank is that it is the only OP tank left in this game. The commander's cap is tiny, to be able to penetrate it, face to face, you must have HEAT with over 330 mm penetration! How many tanks in this game have that much penetration on premium/HEAT ammo??? How are the tractor wheels of the crawler stuck so that they don't get damaged when you pull them?? Only those from WG can tell us! But it's nothing, prepare the money for the winter sponsorship!
It's crazy, on console, the 279e is considered kind of bad, its armor is decent, but nearly every shot in the side will ammo rack it, Autoloaders will pop its lid at an almost 50% chance.
I will say, it's almost rare to have standard shells fired at you in tier 10 on console. Our economy and silver earn is astronomical compared to pc.
guess thats cos the terrible aim u have by playing with a controller has to be compensated with gold rounds lol.

This tank needs its own tier and if you want to keep it in the same tear it is tier 10 it is a special tank it does not need any type of bond anything to make it three times is better it also does not need gold rounds this tank would be balanced very quickly even if you put it back the way that it was no gold and no bond equipment that's a start

The T95/FV4201 Chieftain can still go hull down and only tank , who can pen it one of the 10 times is Jag.PZ E100 , it's don't stop it to be super Overpower tank , it's just make it to be least Super Overpower Hull down beast tank
Same to Obj279 e/r , this tank can still drive at you, you will not pen it no matter what you shooting at it , and lies like Jag.PZ E100 and Type 5 H can pen this thing realibly, I have both of this tank , and all those tanks shells , even 420 heats , don't pen it and if they do , Only Obj.279 E/R have advantage call "Only loweroll" , normally I pen every single tank, in my Jag.PZ E100 for at least 900 , but numbers are always about 1k
But when I try to pen Obj.279 or Cheattain, 700 , have fun than, when they pen you on the move for 400-500 4 times in row doing 2k damage and kills you, meanwhile you put just two shots in , one is always bounce, BECAUSE 420 HEAT CAN'T PEN THOSE REWARD TANKS, YOU SHOULD NOT PEN THEM, and second will pen and do 700 , great
WG should nerf Those vehicles down , like put bigger weakspoints on both of this tanks , so than, you can pen them no matter of where there are and what they doing
279e is now the equivalent of the IS-4
Rather fight a 279e over a chieftain
To be fair the 279e is more Hype than anything else. Easily flanked especially if you are in a platoon with another medium or heavy. The nerf wasnt much but it did put a bit of a leash on this thing. For the amount of time and effort to complete the missions for this tank it should very well be special. Folks don't know how to fight these things and cry in fear and frustration. If you play enough CW's you soon learn how to deal with these things and they aren't so OP feeling once you learn it.
That STRV 103 sat there and let the 279e farm two of his teammates
Two things would fix wot and get PLAYERS to JOIN the PLAYERBASE:
1. Rating/skill based matchmaking tons of other battle games as old or older than WOT ALREADY have this!! Hell Halo 2 had this?!
2. STOP MAKING TANKS that have IMPENETRABLE turrets. BRING BACK WEAKSPOTS on all tanks. If you create a high DPM heavy than give it other limiting featurea like shitty armor. Its not hard to fix this game so players return thet just refuse to do it. They want people getting frustrated to the point of leaving so their oldest most competetive players can farm. The problem is eventually these guys will get bored and the game will die. This started a long time ago on NA
The game is ruined and dying slowly already. Nothing will stop that.
It should have a completely different nerf... Bigger cupola, or added different frontal weak point + it should have only tier X matchmaking, tier VIII and even most of tier IX, just can't pen it, all it has to do is to hide cupola and farm.
This tank is a proof that even a complete 500 dpg noob can just buy a boosting service for like 200$ get it unlocked and feel invincible in almost every -2 matchmaking. Its just stupid and should not exist.
Same thing goes to VK 72.01 and T95/FV4201, except for these two at least people can't just get it straight away from boosting companies lol.

Russian tank players moaning about their heavy tanks only being able to go 40-45 where almost all other new tanks are hard limited at around 35-40
The most common reason for nerfing that tank is this: that tank and many other tanks shouldn't be in the game at all.

It still destroys everything the average player learns through progression to be decent in the game. No lower or frontal weaknesses, and even the side armor is just trolling even seasoned players. It’s an abomination just at least to like the borasque, which is destroying light tanks even more than wheeled vehicles did. This is off topic but I’m a scout player. The op ELC is clipped by the borasque. It’s rediculous.

It's an OP tank that is available ONLY to the best players or players willing to fork over $$$ to a boosting company (which WG does so little to prevent their use 😡). Now anytime a Tech Tree tank begins to show a slightly higher win % it gets nerfed hard, sometimes 2 or 3 times (Progetto 65). WG needs to leave the tech tree tanks alone, even if slightly OP, because EVERYBODY can get their hands on these tanks.
WG just adjust the missions so they are more achievable for average players. This kills 2 birds with 1 stone. Gets the 279e into more average players hands, which will lower the win % and it KILLS the use of Boosting companies. Just the opinion of this old Tread Head. Rock on Tankers 🤘😎
Honestly, it shouldn't even be the shape it is, it should be even more OP technically, but then they could just put weak spots on it...but accurate depictions of history may be to much to ask for from wargaming.
279e is so OP, there are no amount of nerfs that will help. I should not be forced to spam Gold to have a prayer of a pen. No thumbs ever for a 279e video.
In the meantime s. Conqueror have better win8 and played from unexperience players as well but it's not broken.... LEAVE THE BLOODY REWARD TANKS ALONE. People bleeding in the chairs to grind this tanks and you want to give them worse tank from the tech tree.

Here is the problem with things like this, they will nerf it, let it get powercrept and then never buff it, putting it into irrelevance after a while like the IS-6 for example
I obtained this tank only after years of effort and shortly after the nerf. I am fine with the Nerf with the exception of the pen reduction. I don't see why this tank gets less pen than an average tier 10. Seem like BS to me. That being said, I still think its better than any tech tree heavy. I will also say its not as good as the raw win rate of 55% suggests. Most of the people who play this are 53 to 60% overall players. I don't think a sub 50% player could earn this tank. You still have to think, its not bullet proof. Been using to complete last couple 260 missions.
The funniest way of annoying 279 players is to shoot the weakspot under the gun, ofc RNG will rarely allow that but still

Both have been nerfed quite a bit, because clans stopped use them in competition formats like we have seen in world championship games 7 x 7 format, no Chieftains or obj 279(e) there. Maybe for random those are still a little bit op, but for competition formats those are useless now.
They banned the tank from any form of competition . So its not nerf related
it can be used in clanwars, nobody does tho because you need mobility to win / out flank so instead people are bringing out turbo 60tps now
edit : an instead of chief comp now gets turbo kpz ( nerf the reward sell the replacement )

The tank was not so OP before the nerf, now it's close to a normal techtree tank, for me at least. Btw you mistake, 279e has a lowerplate, under the hull and above the tracks it's a spot a pixel to be more exactly. U can shoot there,it's gonna pen especially with 340 pen HEAT :) IS-4, 260,WZ,etc.
but not worth it at all to hit such a small weakpoint when u can just pen the upperplate with 315mm XDDD

Short answer is no. The 279e is still too mobile for all the armor it has. It should be limited to similar speeds as maus or if only a bit faster in a sraight line, with a far slower hull traverse.

I've never minded facing the 279e, especially when I'm playing my E3! Just free damage at this point.
They should nerf the front armour a bit. Leave the rest of the tank as it is but nerf the armour.
So the average win rate of the 279e has fallen to a little more than 56%. Is it worse than before? Yes, it is. Is a 56% win rate an indicator of a balanced tank? Lol. Seriously, as far as I'm concerned they might as well not have nerfed it all.
Bring back old artillery and that'll balance this thing real fast
279e with 100mm hull armor and 250mm turret armor will be a good tank to watch.
When i see 279e/Chieftains in the enemy team i know this will be a 90% chance of defeat, "players dont know how to deal with them" its actually very easy, just aim to the weak spot, load premium rounds and PRAY TO RNG to hit the shot and do dmg, thats all the skill you need.
WarGaming need this OP tanks to stay in the game so players have a real challenge not based on skills but on luck, and ofc they sell "Luck(rng)" with premium rounds and stuff, etc.
This is a long story about this tank and WG will not nerf them until there is a new "OP/Meta" tank in the game, and like what happen with the Type 5 Heavy, the 279e and chieftains will be thrown into oblivion.
What are you even talking about WG literally has nerfed chief and 279. Sconq and 277 are better tanks for random and 60tp is meta in clan battles now. Bots got what they wanted.

And again, QG promotes toxic OP tanks and the toxic players abusing them (just look how he pushed/blocked the obj140 to get the kill on the Skorpion for himself...).
And QB cannot even openly say the tank is still OP despite saying more nerfs could (should?) be done...
QB, don't stop at just looking at the WN8 diff that is slightly above 0. Look more broadly and you'll see that EVERY OTHER tier X heavy tanks (except the VK 72.01k) have a negative WN8 diff, even the Obj260. This shows how much better these tanks are compared to nearly anything else.
Those weren’t the things overpowered. The armor layout is what’s overpowered. Now most people will never get to use this to begin with as the requirements to get it are outrageous. I’ve been playythisbgame along time and I still haven’t earned it. Regardless of these nerfs the armor layout still allows you to control the speed of any battle. Maybe you’ll bounce more shots and it’s not as fast but it’s the armor to me that makes tank op. People just don’t know or can’t deal with it. The majority of the owners got this cause they are in the Better clans and have better players able to help them get it.
Most of the players that Got it are better at the game so they don't need help getting it. But WG listened to the average players as they often do (which is mostly a good thing but not always) and nerfed 279 and chief. Now sconq and 277 are better for random than those tanks and 60tp is meta for clan battles. Yet average bobs are still crying because they don't understand the fact it was always a skills issue and still is.
