As a european, can confirm i never got microsoft pop up ads.. So that explains why its not getting sued
I'm in the US, and have never seen them either. Could be because I use Firefox and not Chrome, or could be because I've turned off all the "suggestions" settings in the options.
I can also confirm, as I've never seen Windows do anything weird. Makes sense for Microsoft to not be targeted by the EU, since they can't reasonably do anything about what happens outside of the continent.
They already got in trouble for their browser practices a while ago, they know better than to give the EU a reason to pay attention to them.
I'm Canadian, Windows 10, never got the MS popup ads. But I never use Chrome based browsers nor Edge and never use Bing unless Windows tricks me into it against all my best efforts to never use it.
I’m British and I got that Bing ChatGBT pop up last night on chrome.
I RMAd an EVGA Supernova PSU a few years ago, I just dug up the emails, and I had explicitly asked them if I had to pay for replacement cables because I had lost some of the connectors I didn't use, and they said as long as the cables were "undamaged" to not send any the cables in. They made absolutely no mention, in that email or the generic instruction email, about compatibility. IMO the statement that I should keep the cables as long as they were undamaged implies that the old cables would be usable with the new PSU. When I got the new PSU it was a different model (from a GS {Seasonic OEM} to a G3 {Superflower OEM}) and so I checked the cable pinouts and they were different. If I wasn't a computer nerd I would have plugged the new PSU into my old cables and probably fried something.
I'm a fairly big PC nerd and I only discovered (purely coincidentally) that the cables from these standardized (end-)connectors have different pin layouts at the front side a few years back
@@tiaxanderson9725 Yes its standard molex connector but wiring is up to PSU manufacturer how they use them at PSU end.
Seeing as the EVGA representative gave the customer the impression that the old cables were compatible, EVGA should definitely take responsibility.
yes & no. The rep did soemthign wrong but theres no real way to prove the drives died due to that...or how many. If he had 1 drive and showed that he could of done it to dying drives just to get the compensation...there is a reason data protection is very rare as its extremely hard to prove. (and thus can be abused and costly to company)
Shouldnt the pinout be normed anyways, seems like a bad time for custom cables too. Imagine you buy cablemod ones and it fries your system
Aj me
@@hotaru25189 There is. If simply plugging a new PSU that is supposed(per the rep's impression) to be compatible cause instantly failure of something that was perfectly fine before, it means it's the PSU, not anything else. It's simple cause and effect.
@@hotaru25189 If you change the pin out in a way that it causes this kinda trouble without telling the customer, while also telling the customer to keep the old cables that is on the company. The company is quite able to check if they sent out a PSU with different pin without informing the customer of this and if it happened they should be liable for any destruction of property. In fact I'd assume that here in Germany they would be. They might even be criminally on the hook for destruction of property. So yes, they risk of overcompensating a customer is something they just have to eat.
I am absolutely blown away that, after nearly 15ish years in the mainstream, modular PSU pinouts are STILL not ATX standardized. Like what the actual hell??
The first fully modular PSU was released 20 year ago
@@AltonV even worse!
Why hasn't the pin-out of modular PSUs been standardized? According to google, it's been 20 years since the first modular PSU, and with the rise of customizability like cablemod & RGB, it's a little weird that there's been no effort to create a universal standard.
For the simple reason that you need the right proprietary cables to go with the proprietary power supplies. More money that way.
Extremely scummy, but easily understood. There's no reason to make them proprietary outside of this.
According to some google sources George Washington was black
Because you can't control what someone is going to plug into that connector. One PSU could support two hard drives on one connector and omit the 3.3V supply while another could support eight and sink the 3.3V in groups. How many pins and what gauge of conductor should be used? Over specifying just adds cost to the lower end stuff.
Ummmm because industry-wide standardization = less money for the mega corporations. It's basically as simple as that
@@leftcoastfunknot really sometimes standardization is good for the bigger companies since they can race for the bottom quicker
IDK if it's just me, but it feels a bit irresponsible how quickly OpenAI is rushing out products without remotely considering their repercussions.
I can agree with this. They might find themselves in a very tough spot if they continue.
nahh
Where did my comment go?
The repercussions are fatter wallets as far as they care.
It was always going to be this way. First to market wins the race....
For those with the foresight and the money, any negative repercussions, which are looking likely, might be offset by investing in a bunker. Sadly, it appears as though those making these decisions already have that life-line whereas the rest of us will likely suffer.
As a windows 11 user in Europe I haven't got issues with edge, managed to Uninstall it and so far it hasn't popped back, I also can use offline accounts without "hacks" and tricks, the update process is seamless and fairly discreet.
Also onedrive Uninstalled without complaining, teams never installed on my pc and Idon't get harassed to switch to an online account
But you still get updates and they will screw up your computer
Why are you sharing this?
Curious to know where in Europe you are, I'm in britian and I don't get popups but teams did come preinstalled, edge can't be uninstalled and offline accounts don't work without the hack
I'm wondering if since the uk left the EU Microsoft is trying to treat it more like they do america

yeah it sucks, unfortunately finding things online is getting worst and worst
@sullfolife
I suggest exclusively using the advanced search page. It uses most of the old algorithm. Even then I still seem to get inconsistencies with their hidden A/B group testing
So google switched to keyword based search algorithms in like 2020 or earlier(I forget), and of course, everyone copied them.
Advanced google search uses the old algorithm and doesn't ignore search modifiers like quotes or throw away your search terms when you use a popular keyword when normal google does.
If you are on Firefox, you can modify your about: page to enable custom search engine URLs and get all your searches automatically in advanced search.
Until google removes that too
I now understand OpenAi's old board decision way better than before, when they tried to remove Sam Altman from the CEO spot for "not aligning his interests with the company's" it was probably all about this.
OpenAi should've been a non-profit oriented company, meaning they should, of course, have gotten some capital to develop, but their final objective shouldn't be to JUST gain capital. Sadly, this is what they're coming to, and with how fast they're developing, I don't really see this being a win for anyone except for corporations looking for profit in the long term.
Would have loved to see the havoc open source models of OpenAI would have caused.
Altman was out. Board members could have decides to not bring Sam back. He was removed for different reasons not because of interests not aligning. If they cared about interests, company would never have become for profit.
I'm just wondering when all corporations adopts AI 100% from warehouses to trucks and when everyone's out of job except for the elites, then at that point who is even buy their products as ppl won't have any money to buy anything
I'm getting so tired of AI
Better hope AI doesn't get tired of you!
Lets call it AI fatigue. I have not used single piece of AI software since ChatGPT. It dsnt fit anywhere in my workflow.
But suddenly it posseses the threat to replace me in my job. Weird.
Im not. For a year and a half I developed skills with it and now it’s my full time job.
But it’s so hot right now.
@@tamalchakraborty5346AI fatigue is definitely a thing. We are all tired of the hype.
About job replacement, it's a mixed bag. There was one support center who had an option to use an automated system and another to contact a technician for chat. The technician was Chatgpt... how did he find out? He said something racist as a check.
AI may not go well for everybody since this is a wild west, but companies are certainly trying it out regardless. Many people are using it to automate stuff, but it's getting out of hand.
Doctors use it to create reference letters and writeups and that can be a huge privacy concern.
I gave up on using Google Gemini. The number of times I had to argue with my freaking search engine over what buildings do and don't exist was insane! If this is the future I want no part of it.
Can confirm that EVGA does not tell customers that cables have changed. I bought a psu in 2019 and sent it in last year because it died. I noticed that the replacement unit they gave me had a different pin layout. Honestly, that guy should get his power supply replaced again. It's a very easy mistake.
Nice Meow Wolf shirt James 🔥

EVGA went really quickly downhill after 2020. It's unfortunate, but this kind of nonsense from them isn't a surprise to me anymore.
Ive never seen those edge bing popups. Only a banner after clean install of windows when i seach for firefox to keep using edge.

As always we love being featured on TechLinked (we got an original taped TechLinked shirt somewhere here in the shop). That being said 2 clarifications:
-We dug through our emails and the first time we reported the issue to EVGA via email was January 2023, but we did talk to them before then about it on the phone. It was only really discussed with sales folks so its very possible they did not pass on the information as the model was EOL at this stage from my understanding.
-EVGA did pay for the guys hard drives and RMAed our PSUs. We just recently sent in a 1000GQ and got a brand new in box one as a replacement.

Why would EVGA even change the pinout between revisions of the same PSU model? And without changing the connector keying? That's absolutely insane. The fried drive is definitely on EVGA to pay for here.
It wasn’t even a revision. The two PSUs were identical were side by side, indistinguishable from one another.

About 6 years ago I replaced a Seasonic X760 under warranty. They didn't have a replacement in stock so I got an X850 and was told to not use the old cables. The replacement promptly died about 2 years later, no idea how they got their reputation of being reliable.
You probably just got unlucky, nothing is 100% reliable, and there will always be a small percentage of people who get two defective products in a row. It's also possible you had an underlying issue with your local electric supply, your house's wiring, or your PC's other components, which caused the PSUs to be overloaded.

James did a perfect Mr. Bubz at the beginning.
I keep edge on my pc because some random supplier websites don't work well with chrome and i can use edge.
I have moved across to Ubuntu, mostly, still dual boot windows but not for long. I even run edge and teams in Linux with no problems at al, once I disabled wayland (I like to have a seperate browser for work). My days of using windows at home are numbered and I’ll probably cancel my M365 subscription as well, I just have to do something about the significant backups on the Microsoft account
Cool
Do you have a NAS? You could go google free, MS free and cloud less if you wanted to.
What do you think about Nextcloud? MS 365 is the only reason why I stick with windows, and it's primarily for work reasons. My friend who used WPS got an embarrassing slide where the contents were out of place when run on Microsoft PowerPoint.
I seriously hate wayland too but I would suggest that you make an image backup of that Windows image so in case if your ubuntu shits itself (which desktop linux do wayyy too frequently) you’ll still have something to fall back on. Also try BTRFS instead of ext4, then you can use “system snapshots” which is basically Windows restore (pretty sweet)
