For the gamma lids I get mine from Loweâs. About 9 bucks a piece. And they are really only used on my open buckets. Because I can get in and out of it easier. Hope that is helpful.
I get my gamma lids from home depot.. for $7.72 Only because I don't have a lowes in my area..
But Jamerril... I use a hair straightening flat iron to do my mylar bags maybe that will be easier for you.. It's a multiple duty appliance Lol.. I use it to straighten my curtains straighten my hair because Lord have mercy I was born with curly hair that likes to get frizzy in any kind of humidity, You can get it crisp pleat in a pair of pants.. Or straighten a shirt collar that's tried to curl.. Or just use it to iron out wrinkles quickly off of a shirt or..I use it to make bows .. I use it to seal off a chip bag.. Yeah I'm that crazy person.. And when I was in my truck I seriously used it cook pieces salmon and a piece of steak wrapped in foil.. But I have one of Those adjustable temperature flat irons..
You could use a hair iron straightener to seal mylar bags
Jammerill if you join now do you get access to the past talks like the one from the year without the grocery store lady?
i hope when you make your merchandise, you will design your own jamerill head bands.its soo cute!!
I have no reason to watch your channel, except that I just love you. I retired 2 days ago at 67 years old and I live alone. I am so inspired by you.
q@I agree Iâm 71 and live alone, but I just to love watching this Christian Mom just trying to do stuff that she thinks is important, things she thinks will teach her kids good life skills, and things that can add to their familyâs value- the garden, putting food by- 5gallon buckets and canning with mason jars, and dehydrating, the animals, for milk, meat, the garden and being a good shopper which as valuable as gardening , I just wish I could go back in life and have lots of kids and do the things she has and is doing with them and her hubby. Love this Christian family,,
I am also retired as is my husband. We raised 6 and frequently had cousins, friends and neighbors at our house. Oh the memories. I love this channel too and Jamerrillâs focus on family and the Lord. I used to do a lot of gardening and canning as well as go to nearby orchards to can, make preserves and even some dehydrating. We have a large family reunion this weekend. All 6 grandkids đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€ Weâll be staying in 3 separate homes and getting together at different home with lots of space for social distancing. We live at a 100 acre lake and fishing is best with some space!
Ditto!
Bonnie B that is such a sweet commentđ
Me too :) Iâm just in college so I have no reason but she inspires me!
"CZcamsrs have things together, then there's me"
This is why I'm here though. You make me feel normal. I always forget steps and have to search around and try to get my brain right lol
Write it down, it helps to remember the steps
So much same. Lol. Its part of her charm!!!
@@Jomama02 I'm one that will make a list then leave it somewhere lol if loose my head if it wasn't attached
This is such a me statement! We love you for you Jamerrill!
patti Bueno You fit right in with the majority of us! Just start with a long âlasting 25 yr âbucket of food for emergency, available at Cabalas. Then get some gallons of water, use before exp date, refill, date, keep doing and so on. Get a bag of beans, a bag of brown rice, beef bouillon. Now you are prepared!!!!! Just mark use by date, restock BEFORE using, and you will make it thru . You are âPrepared Pattyâ Now give her a hand!!đđŒ
"See, I talk nice to my husband." I learn more about marriage and motherhood from your channel than food stuff. Beautiful family!
đ thank you
Jamerill thanks for showing the mama cat and kitten together. It just made my day.
You know one of reasons I love you and your channel? You keep it real! You still have unpacking and clutter to handle and didn't have all of your stuff ready and perfect. That is real life!
âșïž Definitely a real mom, not a show. đ„°
The milar should be completely flat when you seal them. Any tiny folds in the seal line could potentially let in air and be blown.
I know this because i worked in a vacuum packing food factory and had to check for this at the end. X
I was wondering about that myself.
I might write on that bag inside the bucket, too, just in case a little helper pulls your tape off.
And I might also put a label sticker on the lid so I could read it without getting down on my hands and knees,
Here I am in the Netherlands, one husband, no kids, a dog and two guinea pigs binge watching your videos for a few weeks now. Copied a few recipes from you, loving your personality and energy. Stay safe and healthy !
great video, some tips: Do not put lids on buckets for a few hours, this will give you time to see if the mylar bag was indeed sealed, it becomes hard as a rock if it did. Next, seal the mylar bag up towards the top of the bag so you can cut the bag open and still have room below to reseal it, this helps as you need to check your buckets especially when beginning food storage. Also, I would use a one by one or two by two piece of wood that is routed smooth on top sides and glue it on top of your board, this way you will get a broader surface to iron across. The sharp edge you used on the board was very prone to melting through. Good job for first try, I made many more mistakes when I began.
You can cut off the excess mylar from the top and make mini-bags from them for spices and such.
Great idea!!
Shouldnt you keep the rest of it since you may have to reseal it and may need room?
@@cartoonexpert8764 you can't seal above, just below. So the farther north you can seal, the better for reuse. Most seal as close to the food as possible & just rebuy the bags for best practice.
Hi from Colorado. You are not a good u-tuber, you are a GREAT u-tuber! I just love your real life videos. God bless.
I enjoy videos like this! It shows me that if I just try, I can prepare food for my parents as they get older and make sure that they never go hungry. Thank you! I can't wait to see how the long-term food storage turns out!
Best food storage presentation is by Wendy DeWitt,
I've had food storage over 40 years, its kept my family ways feeding others and ourselves for years. I even store candy like Wendy does. You'll love her!
Wendy Who?
Meanwhile here I am storing bought meat in the freezer for just myself, my husband and my dad and having a tiny balcony garden feeling all accomplished. đ
You are accomplished; you took a great first step! Iâm currently on that step too and it took a lot of learning and work to get there.
You should darlin! Tiny garden or not, you're ahead of where you'd be with no garden at all. Point is, you're doing what YOU can do and trying! Hell, I'm proud of ya! đđïžđ
That's a great accomplishment!
Ahead of me! Allergies , and bug bites keep me from gardening, but freezer is full, and plenty of can goods! We all have to do what we can. Just the 2 of us now, but I bought a 25yr food pail at Cabalas for our college son, and us, just in case. You might look into that. Think he will inherit ours before we use it! !
You are accomplished.
Make sure you use your brown rice within a year of storing it because of the oil. White rice is the way to go for long term food storage đ
Yes! You are right!
I was just going to say this!
So true about the brown rice but I think it starts to taste funny after 6 months if stored in a warm area or if you live somewhere warm. I don't think brown rice is a worthwhile long term food option. It's too finicky to me.
Bulk barn almost always has those 5 gallon food safe buckets ready to go. Not always free, not always 5 gallon, but always with a sealing lid to match...
Did not know that! Thank you!
Jamerrill I live in ct things are changing everyday I was lucky to find you right before covid started I am blessed to have two children and a loving husband . I never really watched u tube but I am hooked your channel is the most positive and has helped this momma get through a lot your followers are awesome and helpful with so many things. God bless thank you for all you do for us
You might try Lowes for the gamma lids, our local Lowes has them in the store. Also, for your next set of buckets to fill don't forget all the great dry bean varieties! I love that book A year without the grocery store, I got it several months ago, thanks for letting us know that she has a workbook for it out now. I'm loving these new videos with all the food storage and preservation, I still love the old ones too!
I just commented this. I didn't scroll down to read. But I absolutely agree about the gamma lids. :)
You have just given me chills. Inspiration, happiness. And I'm going to do my best to STOP SAYING CUSSWORDS and Thoughts.thank you. So fondly mrsjob
Google wholesale buckets, with lids. I also googles sugars, turns out sugar doesn't go bad. I'd store in buckets to keep out bugs. Wheatberries were found in Egyptian tombs, it still grew!
I have also recently begun learning how to do long term storage. In some videos I have watched, the people sealed the Mylar bags near the opening. That way, if they need to access the contents to fill a container for their pantry for immediate use they can cut off the seal, remove what they need and still have space to re-seal the Mylar bag again and protect the remaining contents of the bucket. Also, I made sure to buy a plastic lid wrench to help me remove the regular kids without damaging them (or me, haha!). Gamma lids are great if you can get them cuz they allow you to just twist to open. If you are using regular lids .. try to find the ones that have a rubber gasket inside for a better seal. I enjoyed the video!
I love how you're a "real" family, with love messes and foot prints on the ceiling. I also have boxes from when we moved in random places and we just go with it :) Thanks again for sharing this part of your life with us.
I ordered my 5 gallon mylar bags through Amazon and when you do that they throw in the oxygen absorbers with it. I believe they are 3000 icu. I don't put oxygen absorbers in my flours but I do for my oatmeal and beans. Recently I started using my half gallon mason jars and storing up powdered lemonades, ice tea mixes and hawaiian punch as well as tang. Kids will start bellyaching pretty quick if all they have is water. Walmart carry's most of that stuff as well as powdered strawberry and chocolate quick. Into the back of my closet they went. No oxygen absorbers in anything with sugar. It will turn hard as a rock.
suzanne Baker tang for sure, lots of vitamins and weâll need those!
Also powered milk good have lots lots water
I would rotate the powdered drink mixes often. Something about the citric acid in them loses its potency.
Suzanne, I have been a prepper for 45 years. Packages of non sweet Kool Aid has an indefinite shelf llife. Any drink mix with sugar as well. Here is a suggestion over Nestle-Nesquik to store. Augason Farms makes a product called Morning Moos in #10 cans w ith a shelf life of 35 years. It is a milk alternative and taste better than dry non fat dry milk. I store Chocolate Morning Moos because with it you don't have to have any type of milk to make it where as Nesquik you do. The Moos is complete. It only requires water. You can get it on many sites, but I order mine from Amazon because I am a Prime member and don't have to pay shipping.
How do you store those sounds good
Just a suggestion, but I would take a sharpie and label each Mylar bag as well. Just in case something happens to bucket labels, i.e. Ink fades, tape adhesive gets old or affected by environment and falls off, etc. Love your videos, thank you for sharing!
Test first! Some surfaces sharpie washes off on.
Juanita Sparkes great idea!
I cannot believe how big all your kids are getting!! Zion is looking like a fully fledged adult now! And the little ones are not so little any more! Such a blessing to have such wonderful children! I've ordered the book by Karen last week and cant wait till it comes :)
Use hair straighteners to seal your bags.
Finally a use for my hair straightener. My sister bought it for me over a decade ago, Iâve used it maybe 6 times and two were on my daughter when she asked. The straightener is older than her lol
Yes. I use a hair straighteners to seal my Mylar bags. Sooooo much easier. And quicker.
Also the higher up you seal the better, so when you open the bag up, cut that bit off then reseal again and again.
I was thinking the same thing đđ»
Yes! Flat irons work great for sealing mylar bags.
Bless you Jamerrill for being normal and real. :)
Jamerrill I'm need to start a journal of food storage, preparations, homesteading. Wonderful lady and momma giving advice and us all learning as we go. God Bless you and yours â€
I love watching your channel because I learn so much and you're a great teacher. I'm only a family of 2 & I've applied some of your lessons to my family and I've gotten my grocery shopping down to 2 months now. I used to shop every weeks then once a month, now every 2 months. Thank you so much!
Freeze drying (we have the equipment) and sealing in a vacuum sealing SEAL A MEAL ...putting the bags in 5 gallon buckets, the food will remain nutritious and safe for about twenty years. I also freeze dry herbs and put in jars, vacuum seal canning lids on them. Organization is a must. Our garden is not in yet, technical problems, but I have many foods from the last five years which have been freeze dried and vacuum sealed...so have herbs, etc. What a wonderful thing, the freeze drier. Also use my regular drier. My goal this year is to have about ten pint sized jars of tomato powder...freeze dry sliced tomatoes completely, pulverize in vita mix, then into jars and vacuum seal. Label and date. Great for sauces and soups. Happy food storage!
I love watching your videos because you are so real and a delightful person. Thank you for sharing your life and family with us.
Hi Jamerrill!
If you are still looking for gamma lids, Tractor Supply has gamma lids.
You can order them online.
I keep a few extra on hand so when I open up a bucket of food storage to use I switch out the regular lid with a gamma lid for easier access but it still stays sealed when not using.
Thank you so much for your videos!!!!!
Lisa
Awesome thank you!
Jamerrill Stewart, Large Family Table Beautiful I would like to know where did you buy the bag to store food đ„ my best wishes for your familyđ
I find myself talking about your videos all the time! I tell everyone about your channel! I am loving learning about all the homesteading! God Bless!
I have done long term storage for years in just the buckets with oxygen absorbers. I have never had a problem with spoilage or anything using this method and fit way more in my buckets without the bags.
For the wheat berries you can cook them for an hour, cool them and use them instead of pasta in a cold salad. I add vegetables, Italian dressing, and Parmesan cheese, but anything would work.
Been binge watching Jamerrill videos for a couple weeks now. I was inspired by the homesteading, then homeschooling even though my son is 1 1/2, and now I'm doing some freezer cooking for my family! I feel like we're best friends. She's just so sweet! #goals
I just want to thank you as you inspire me to speak more softly and gentle. I'll watch your channel 1st over others I watch. I only had one child and he's 37 years old. I admire mommas that have oodles of kids. Had I been married I would have too, but I've been blessed to have the one God gave me. I'm going to really work at being more soft spoke. It's now my goal. Thanks bunches.
Consider beans and lentils! Great protein substitute if meat is not easily available. Love your videos.
I find out Americans eat alot of meat
I don't know you, but I admire you. You are humble. You talk things through out loud with all of us online.
I think women like myself hear ourselves as you speak. We hear your thinking process and say, "Yes, that's me!"
đ€Șđđ
Alaskan Prepper is really good too
I love the AP community!
Youâre so funny with all your comments and looking for things. Good thing all your supplies for storing appeared đ. Really liking the color scheme in your kitchen and the furnishings. Looks sharp
I am so happy that you have these opportunities! And that you are using the opportunity. It is so much work and the days are so long but come winter or another rainy day it is so worth it. đ
So happy for a new video! You have taught me so much!!!!

I just love watching your videos and seeing what you are up too. You always make me feel happy đ. Greetings from Australia đŠđș
I'm very new to prepping and I presently found your channel. I have seen many people adding Baby leaves to their mylar bags, I hope that helps you and I wanted to say thank you for sharing. I have learned a lot and I truly appreciate your content.
Love how you just make things happen and see your vision through. Thanks for sharing your crazy journey xx
I love the realness of this one. We know that many youtubers just show you the good but edit out the not perfect. That's not reality. I love how this feels like I'm in a friend's home.
