      Thank you Jamerrill for sharing like you do. I can't have animals where I live, but you have inspired me to do a garden this year, and stuff actually has grown! And I also have started canning and long term food storage in mylar bags with buckets too. So thank you for sharing like you do and for being so inspirational and for always keeping it real ❤️🤗 My favorite quote from you...you do you and I will do me....love it...and love you lady ❤️ Thank you again ❤️

      You can make your own oxygen obsorbers by buying silican kitty litter and using coffee filters to incase the silican . This will lower your costs dramtically for O2 OBSORBERS.I havent made them yet because I just watched the video

    Just a thought, when you store the buckets, if you aren't using a shelve but are stacking them, you will need to use a board between the buckets. If you stack several heavy buckets on top of each other, the lids will eventually break, but if you place a board on top of a bucket and set the bucket on top of the board, it redistributes the weight from the thin lid to the sturdier bucket.

    Millet is another grain you can actually live on for a long time - very healthy grain - I prefer it already hulled and cook it the same way I do oatmeal - with milk/water. I put a little honey, butter and chopped dried fruits on top after it's cooked. I found a giant bag of it at our local discount store similar to your Sharp Shopper - GTM (San Diego). I invested in a Harvest Right freeze drier a couple years ago and built up a good emergency food stash. I love being able to buy a case of name brand yogurt at GTM for $2.40. You can freeze dry that into little drop or wafer shapes. Great snack. Freeze dried watermelon is amazing stuff - comes out like cotton candy. Most fruits are fantastic freeze dried. Freeze dried ice cream sandwiches are amazing.

    I would go ahead and get a TON of pasta sauce! If things go south before you are finished getting all your supplies you would have sauce to make a meal. I also make meal buckets that include full meals (ex. canned hamburger, pasta sauce, pasta, can of green beans, spices or condiments) In an emergency that causes you to leave your home you could just grab those instead of trying to get individual items. They can also be used to share. If a family came to you for food you could just give them a prepared bucket and it would have everything they need.

      Better yet... Instead of buying a ton of sauce which might spoil before you use it, just buy tomato powder and dehydrated veggies to make your own sauce.
      Then, you'll still have it available 10 to 20 years from now.
      AND... it is much lighter to transport and won't take up nearly as much space in bulky jars.

I had permission from my manager to take the empties home for free and used them for various purposes. Perhaps that is an option to be looked into by you or some of your viewers with the surrounding restaurants in your area. Never hurts to ask. You would have to clean them well to get the pickle smell out but hey, free buckets ya know? Hope this is helpful.

    Another two items I freeze are chocolate chip morsels. Also shelled walnuts and pecans. I buy large bags so keep them in the freezer. Nuts don't turn rancid and morsels don't melt if it gets hot. You can take out enough for a recipe and put rest right back in freezer. Thaw them at room temperature.

    Jamerill, several things I would like to mention: 1) you can make your own brown sugar with just white sugar and molasses, easier!, 2) you can make your own powdered sugar by blending your regular sugar in a blender til fine. That is two things you don't have to worry about. , 3) very important to know how to use your wheat! That is a whole 'nother ball game. I am assuming you have white wheat (which tastes very different from red wheat, which is what I have). It will last almost forever in your storage and there are a lot of things you can make with it. One book that is easy to use and I recommend is by Crystal Godfrey called I can't believe it's food storage. She also has a blog and makes wonderful bread with her whole wheat kernels. There are, of course, many more resources but hers are very easy. Enjoy your journey!

    I'd like to offer that you seal 3/4 of the way crosstop. Then insert oyx absorber get vacuum hose insert. Sucking air thru vaccum then in lay on metal rod no wrinkles and seal last 1/4 at an angle. That you can open small slits vs cutting tops off.
    Hold bag around hose tube otherwise you may need 2 -100 absorbers with all that air by volume

    You can leave the pasta in the original bags inside the mylar. Just cut the corner off of the top of the original bag so the air can suck out. Then stick the bags in there in such a way that the open corners are not blocked. That way you have an extra layer of material to protect your mylar.

  • @kimpatterson7461

    Jamerrill you have the right idea about how to store the food. We may never need all the food but I have a feeling we will all go on lockdown again the fall or winter. I was just talking to my family about getting some food stored up. You are doing a wonderful job. I definitely trust the Lord through it all though.

    Consider LTS in much smaller sizes for all the spices you use regularly for meals. I also take things like Knorr rice and pasta mixes, poke pin holes in each bag. Add an assortment to large mylar with O2 absorber and put in bucket. Box pasta salad mixes can be done the same way. Another I put up is Instant mashed potatoes, box mac and cheese, dry gravy mixes, pankcake/waffle mix/muffin mix... I could list a ton more.

    • @southernhomeflorida
      @southernhomeflorida Před 3 lety

      Michelle, are you poking a hole in the mix bags for the O2 absorber to work? I was wanting to store those premade mixes but was unsure about a proper way to do it. Thanks

    • @kimkliphuis8615
      @kimkliphuis8615 Před 3 lety

      So you leave the Mac and cheese in its box and poke holes in it? And the mashed potatoes do you dump those out and as o2 absorber? I’m so confused by all this long term storage but am thinking I should probably figure it out!!

    This new method answers a couple of questions I had. The straightener both allows for a smoother seal, preventing any small channels of potential air leaks, and sealing the end allows for opening an resealing/reuse. I'd say, unless told otherwise, it's a great option.

    Baking powder is a combination of baking soda and cream of Tartar. If you long term store those two things you can always make bakin powder. One tablespoon of soda to two tablespoons of tartar.

    Yeah, I brought up the hair straightener in the first buckets you did💕 Lot of comments though. I've have yeast in my freezer that is in the Costco vacuum bricks you can get that expired in 2013, unopened . Once I open the brick, I put some in a container and keep it in the fridge then put the rest in canning jars and put it back in the freezer. It's still good. I'm using it now. It's surprising how long it's good. Those hair straighteners are the thing to use 😊

    Great vid! Just a note…you could leave your pasta in the plastic bags..if u wanted to cut the top to open it to allow the oxygen absorber to do it job, that’s ok too. Just cut the top off of your bag and set it into the bucket. This will be additional protection against rips in your Mylar bag and strengthens your preps😉

    Tape a straw to the end of a vacuum. Seal 98% of the bag. Insert the straw and turn vac on to suck the air out. Slowly pull straw out and seal as you go keeping the vacuum on.
