Wildey Magnum - "Real Stopping Power"

  • Made famous in the film Death Wish 3, the Wildey stands as one of the few magnum caliber semi-auto pistols, and probably the only short stroke gas piston operated handgun ever to be mass produced. This example has... seen a lot. When I got it, it had been battered and abused by hot over-gassed rounds, and I ended up having to track down some very rare spare parts from the original company to get it up and running. And even so, it still isn't exactly the most reliable piece in the collection... but it is definitely one of the coolest!

I owned both back in the mid 90s. My .475 had a 10 inch barrel if I remember correctly, my Desert Eagle was a .44. Both shot really well but the Desert Eagle didn't really compare to the Wildley.
I ended up getting engaged and sold them both like a dumbass.

.475 Wildey creates a minimum of 48,000 plus PSI and a velocity of 1,800 FPS with 230 grain round. A Desert Eagle is based of the Coonan .357 Auto Magnum round created in at Mankato University in the 1980's one of the student in the project went on to Create the DE Mark I .357 semi-Auto. AE .50 creates 35,000 PSI. The .475 Wildey still uses the most power round in a semi-auto pistol in a production pistol. A Wildey is like a .454 Casull in Power. .475 can reach velocity of over 2,050 FPS and 53,000 PSI with 230 grain bullets with the right powder maybe even higher.

Welcome to the Bronson Family!!👍🏻👍🏻 great video. I know the camera was speeded up a little bit but how the hell did you take that apart so damn fast. That is one bitch of a gun to get a part and put back together. You must have practiced that many times. I got one 8 inch barrel but you make that look so simple by taking that apart and putting it back together. Awesome job. I love the Desert Eagle I still haven't gotten that one yet. But the looks and the icon of the Wildey Beats the desert eagle tenfold. It took me over 30 years to own a Wildey. What a great historical gun. Clint Eastwood move your ass over!!! Lol. Don't get me wrong I love the Clint but the Bronson come on. Which do you guys think is the most iconic!! That is one of my favorite movies Death Wish 3. I actually know one of the actors from that movie and we sat down and talked for hours sipping on cocktails. She played the punk girl with the pink hair Barbie Wilde. Awesome lady, she also played the female cenobite in Hellraiser. She said working with Bronson was the best work she ever did. I got to know a lot of things about that movie. One day I will share. She said Bronson was the easiest and most gentlest man she ever met and that she had ever worked with very patient, very good man! Nobody can make actors like that today. Rest in peace Charlie❤❤
PS. I was getting my ammo 45 Win Mag full metal jacket I was ordering it from LAX ammunition. Out of the blue they stopped making it I called up and I complained. They actually really had the best price on it as well. Each one of you guys or gals that own one should definitely call up and let them know to make the 45 Win Mag again. Just let them know you're upset. Believe it or not they happen to be the best price of everybody that makes them. And it was pretty good ammo I had no problem with it. I love Underwood Ammo but to save money I was going with lax ammunition I'm not really too happy they stopped making it they didn't give me a reason why either. I really hope you guys and gals call in because we can all save a lot of money. Sorry this is so long thanks for reading. Long lived in Republic and God bless America and God bless our troops that are fighting for us right now!!❤❤

IWI and MRI made the effort to popularise their impressive yet not too practical product.
They sold them to movie armourers who then used them in multiple films.
There was also fact that that it was chambered in more common ammo such as .357 Magnum unlike earlier large caliber pistols which used proprietary ammo (ex: Wildey in .475 Wildey Magnum, Auto Mag in .44 AMP). It also had a gas system that was more reliable than the Wildey and even more so than the short recoil operation of the AMC Auto Mag Pistol.
That's how the Desert Eagle became the most famous large caliber semi-auto pistol.

A Mankato State College student created the .357 auto round as a project for college and the Coonan .357 Auto-Magnum. One of Coonan's designers create the DE Mark I. Blaine, MN used to manufacture Coonan .357 Auto-Magnums until the late 1990's. They are far more practical to carry as it is a 1911 in size and weight.

It's more powerful absolutely. Unless you are shooting Buffalo Bore 44 magnum out of the Ruger then I would say it's about the same or the Buffalo Bore 44 magnum load is a little bit more powerful. But you cannot shoot the Buffalo Bore load in the Smith & Wesson Model 29 and at least it's recommended that you don't. A great round for the 44 Magnum model 29 I would have to say the Remington 180 grain jacketed soft point and jacketed hollow point what a hell of a fireball.
