I just learned about it now through this video! And will turn 32 in about a month! I never worried about it luckily. But now I at least know it is totally normal! Or in case it wouldn’t have been normal, I knew to go to my doctor about it. Same goes for other things we learn here from MDJ!
And not only is there need for better sexual health education in the US. I am from the Netherlands! Didn’t know this either. And never learned about things like spotting (for example) either. Most of these things I just have conversations with female friends and sometimes they know it when I don’t, or the other way around. If we both don’t know it, we look it up, or ask other female friends! At least I’m glad to have MDJ around over here! Like just now with this video I learned about the bleaching thing! So if a friend asks me this, I know the answer ☺️. Grateful for MDJ! 🙌

Glad you mentioned that “really heavy” bleeding with clots isn’t normal. I feel like “light and “heavy” are totally subjective terms based on one’s own typical period, which could be affected by a chronic condition. At 30, I went to my GYN complaining of “fairly heavy bleeding” that was starting to affect me at work. She didn’t respond until I specified that I had started AND finished a value-pack of super-plus tampons in the space of one cycle. Most women don’t know how much they are supposed to bleed or know when to seek help unless there is a marked change.

SAME! Ive been carrying for my mid 70s mother who devoted incontinence after breaking her femur.. anyway- I've had to drop everything I'm doing in my own family's life to bring my mom continence pads bc she doesn't give me a heads up. I recently realized how frustrating it is that I'm taking much better care of her than she'd ever done for me. When I was a young teenager, I started my period and told her, she brought back a bag of pads from the store, tossed them to me on the couch, and that was the extent of menstruation care or information I ever received from her. Being ashamed and embarrassed to buy my own, I always used toilet paper, for YEARS. So when I drop everything when she crabily tells me in her guilt giving way, she's using washclothes to supplement her briefs, I finally had a chance to let her know how well she cared for me back then. (and guess who gets to wash those washcloths, yay.....) Sorry if I sound bitter, she was a pretty terrible mother to me, though my little brother was the prince 🙄... Jeez, thanks for the cheap therapy over here 😅.
This lady is awesome! I love how 'matter of fact' this all is to her. It's how it should be. I never want my daughter to be ashamed of her bodily functions, and hope she'll even have a sense of pride as the lovely young lady she will be. Lord knows many of us need all the help we can get! 💖💖💖

Well done sir! Imagine if one of your sons ends up in a similar situation as you....but with daughters. Or worse, their future wife doesn't know. By you teaching them proper biology now (no matter how gross they may find it) it sets the foundation for the future.
Example? My uncles grew up in an area where the woman was expected to do the cooking and cleaning, and the man worked. A man cooking a full dinner by himself was unheard of. My grandma ignored that and taught all of her boys the traditionally feminine chores, and Grandpa taught the girls traditionally masculine activities; every single one of them grew up to be well rounded individuals, despite the neighborhood gossip. Fast forward X number of years, and the second oldest boy got married. Unbeknownst to him, she had no idea how to cook anything that didn't come pre-prepared. If she couldn't cook it, she just got takeout. New couples are often on tight budgets, so to keep them from starving, he wound up cooking the meals and teaching her in the process. Fast forward even more years, and now all of his kids have been taught the same set of skills he learned, and then some. He was the one to teach the girls about periods, and drive them to their first GYN appointments. He was the one to teach the boys to sew. The oldest is now living by himself, and calls home for social reasons, not panicked emergencies because his shirt popped a button or he can't cook anything besides ramen. Over half of my cousins (I'm the oldest of 28 grandkids) are pretty confident in their survival/homemaking skills...all because two people ignored the social norms and taught their children what they needed to know, and most of those children did the same.
People, teach your kids non-traditional skills. Guys, it's not gay to know how to mend a hole in your shirt (or even sew it from scratch). Gals, learn to swap a flat tire and check your fluids. No, you won't be considered 'un-feminine' for it. If you already know how to do this kind of stuff, teach your friends. There's a time and a place to allow the opposite gender to swoop in and save the day, but in an emergency when there isn't someone who can around to do so, you'll wish you had learned. Educate yourself on biology on both sides so that you know what is normal, and when someone is giving you false information. Let's promote intelligence and independence rather than looking good on social media. The world would be so much better for it.

This stuff needs to be taught in schools, especially here in the states. It's important for everyone to know how their's and others' bodies function.

omg, I wish I had resources like this back in my day. Back when I was a kid in middle/high school I received a pretty bare bones sex-education, and turned to the internet for help answering the questions I had. Some of my earliest understandings of sexual anatomy is exclusively from Wikipedia and porn. CZcams was still in it's infancy back then and didn't have awesome educational content like this. I'm glad to have progressed past the dark ages of not knowing how to get to this kind information, but I still mourn for the younger version of myself that the adults in my life didn't see as deserving of a comprehensive sex-education.

I'm 23 and for a good portion of my life after puberty, I was shamed by my own mother for having weird coloration in my underwear. I thought there was something wrong with me because I never heard my sister getting talked to like that. It wasn't until after I left at 21 and moved in with a friend, also a woman, that I wondered if it was normal. I would do both of our laundry if she was working long shifts, and I noticed the same coloration. I didn't even know what discharge was until last year. It’s so educational and honestly, the school system really makes people with vaginas very confused about what should or shouldn’t be happening. I wish I had this in health class, yet they choose to leave people confused. Sure you can say it’s the parents job to educate, but there are a large portions of parents who either are too awkward/conservative, are also unsure about things, or have been fed misinformation by society. I’m so glad you make these videos, but it’s just so irritating to see adults and school boards willingly shoot down scientific, important info that could really be helpful to so many. I understand! My mom is a smart lady, and a caring mom, but she was never given the opportunity to get educated about her body. Unfortunately, she handed down many of the same painful fears and misinformation about our bodies that she inherited from her mother and grandmother.
I grew up thinking nearly everything about our bodies is something shameful to hide/correct- from body hair to sweating, and from going to the toilet to having dry skin and skin blemishes. She "corrected" the way I walked, focused heavily on not being overweight, and told me that one of the most embarrassing things is to be seen naked. I'm doing some learning/unlearning and she is doing a little as well.
They didn't have the access that I do - to information (like these videos!), research, healthcare, product choices, etc. and the culture didn't allow for talking about it. As a 27y/o woman who doesn’t go to the doctor nearly as much as she should, I’m happy to have found your channel! Great information, especially for those who don’t have access to it .

I love the fact that you don’t say “women” in place for “people with a vagina” it’s super validating for me because I’m a trans guy :)

@@Ben-Carr um...weird point to make? Everyone here understands where vaginas come from. Not everyone with a vagina identifies as a woman....

@@Ben-Carr ah so you're a transphobe 😏😏 please read some scientific articles and educate yourself because sex ≠ gender. Gender is socially prescribed. trans people exist and we've existed for centuries all in dozens of cultures. men can definitely have vaginas

Bruh I've never had bleaching, all my black underwear looks like the day I got them 😂 Instead, my light underwear turns yellow. Turns out it's just oxidized discharge but its still kinda embarrassing cause it looks like my underwear is always dirty.

Yes! The yellowed white underwear freaked me out too. I noticed it when I was pregnant. I asked my OB about it and she said that it's normal especially in pregnancy when your ph changes.

Stain remover works pretty decently for that if you miss when your undies used to look pristine like I do haha

Yup this is why I avoid white underwear. I always thought discharge was not normal, so when it got on white underwear , and then made yellowish stains it was embarrassing. I used to sometimes get bleaching on my black or other colored underwear, but really only if the panties were too tight /small in the crotch causing them to kinda go in between the labia.
