Great Bob Latchford goal for Everton in the Toffees' 1-0 away win at Derby, who were, as we know, the eventual champions.
I saw the match live in Finnish television Yle (they used to show in those days approximately 10 English league and cup games per season).😊

Hugh Johns "One Nutting". Classic piece of commentary isn't it?!!!
back then The Big Match often featured games with Hugh as ATV commentator and Brian Moore always told the viewers which ITV regional station had the pictures and which team was wearing the dark shirts. Lol!!!

The one that got away for Everton fans. Too many draws but just one defeat in the first half of the season, then lost twice on the spin at Xmas, including blowing a 2-0 home lead to Carlisle. Then they got their mojo back and some bookies suspended betting on their title in April. Five games to go, top of the table, three games against teams in the bottom six and I think Everton lost four of the five games. Remember losing to Carlisle again!, Luton, when I think they were already relegated and then blew another 2-0 lead against Sheffield United, which all but handed the title on a plate to Derby.

Well summed up Gridfall 1958. I saw most of Everton's home games and quite a few away in 74/75 season. Blues got great results away at all the top sides and blew it late on, the Sheffield United loss was a sickener. I could never understand the club retaining John Hurst in centre defence. Like others he lost form and confidence from the double FA and European cup defeat, in April 1971 that destroyed the title winning 1970 side.
Also, I recall in early January 1970 Alan Woodward running Everton's team ragged in a FA Cup 3rd round game at Bramhall Lane that kicked off at 2pm, due to Sheffield Wednesday kicking off nearby at 3pm He did the same to Everton five years later here.
So much for tactical awareness back then. Alan Woodward was an outstanding player who should have been brought to Goodison instead to John Connelly.

Yes, and Carlisle won their 1st 3 matches and were top after the 2nd weekend. They did the double over Everton, winning at home (3-0) and away (3-2), and beat champions Derby at home (3-0) and drawing 0-0 away. They also reached the FA Cup quarter finals, so it was a memorable season in many respects, though short-lived.

6:36 Everton v Sheffield Utd. Something very puzzling about Sheff Utd in this period: they were clearly a pretty talented and resilient outfit in 74-75, as shown in this performance, and finished 6th in the division. Yet the following season they were a disaster under Jimmy Sirrel and got relegated. Five years later they were in the old Div 4!
I think Ken Furphy was their manager here. Brought in David Bradford and Tony Field from his former club Blackburn Rovers. What happened to David Smallman, who scored for Everton in this match? I recall seeing him playing for Wrexham in around 1972.

@@guddlom7655 Yes. See the goals at that end? One scored by Bolton in the first half celebrated by their fans behind the goal. In the second half, Blackpool's goal celebrated by their fans in the same place. It's because there was no proper segregation in grounds at that time and at half-time especially it used to often kick-off at the refreshment kiosks as you say. The murderer was caught but the police screwed up the investigation and so he was acquitted on a technicality.
