  • What happened at the St. John Bassmaster Elite event with Trey McKinney and Gerald Swindle? Should anglers who compete and police others feel a backlash from the organization and fans? Should professional bass anglers tell on other anglers about infractions that happen during the event?

    You will not have integrity in any sport unless their are rules and the competitors have the integrity to play by those rules. In a sport where it is impossible to have oversight on every competitor at all times, competitors must police themselves and at times others. The rules are there for a reason. As the media that was actually there to witness this, I will tell you that everyone of you are reacting to half a story you are being told. Trey is by far the most polite and well mannered kids I have ever met. Everything is answered with a yes sir or yes ma’am and his family has raised him to be that respectful and give every bit of glory to god. They are very very strong in their faith. Had swindle approached him the way he claimed he did, he would have been met with the same grace and courtesy Trey shows everyone. However that was not the case, he approached Trey with a finger in in face, threats of his career being over and more swear words than I care to repeat ever. All
    This while Trey was conducting an interview. Treys response was a pure reaction to the attitude he was approached with. Yes his response enraged G further, but perhaps you should consider that you are met with the same courtesy you put forth. There are three sides to the story, theirs, the others, and the truth

If you are not a moral person, nor an ethical person, then you cannot fault someone for pointing your failures for what they are. Way back in 2001 I was fishing the end of year championships on a team trail on a lake I was unfamiliar with.
    I unknowingly went into an off limits area abd as soon as I saw the sign noting it was off limits we left and never took a cast in there . We were only on there about 30-45 seconds. Another tournament boat saw us and turned us in. We had a huge bag too. At the time it sucked but being older now I definitely agree with what the other fisherman did. • @binkwood
    @binkwood Před 2 měsíci +3

    I know some people won't agree but there is a difference between etiquette in the pro leagues and etiquette in $25 club tournaments IMO. I've had two incidents in club tournaments where people ran no wake zones and I was convinced they honestly didn't know they were breaking the law and didn't do it to gain an competitive advantage. In both cases I told the anglers, they ran no wake zones, both apologized sincerely, and I did NOT file a protest or tell the tournament director. I don't know if either one turned themselves in and I didn't feel as though I had been cheated by them. In a high dollar derby like Swindle and the other guy were in, Swindle had no choice but to turn the guy in. Swindle could have technically been disqualified, lost his $5K entry fee (or whatever it is), and lost points in the AOY/Classic qualification. I never heard of the other guy but if he wasn't going to turn himself in he's a scum bag. Only cheaters would dog out Swindle, or the guy that turned New in. And frankly going back to the boat accident on the Harris chain I can't believe those two boaters were so brazen as to knowingly break the law, risk harming people, and getting disqualified in a tournament they paid thousands of dollars to fish! The funny thing is; I know the co-angler in the boat that was run over and his old lady is a lawyer...so I would assume both of those boaters were sued.

    As an adult and a professional there are two things at question here. INTEGRITY & ACCOUNTABILITY. When ever you have a competition with a major payout there will be individuals who will ignore the rules to win. This happens in every professional sport. Because there are not a lot of officials or replay available during a BASS event, then it becomes essential for all the pros to police their associates to make it a fair and rule abiding field. If this does not occur then cheating and unsafe acts will continue without any reprisal weakiening that sport to the affect that no one will want to participate in it because of all the cheating. You see this a lot in smaller BassFishing trails. Thumbs up to Swindle and Upshaw for reporting the individuals who committed the rule violations.

Just watch another video on this same situation and it had the G-man 100% at fault. Stay Safe & God Bless!!!! 🤠👍

    Sounds like tournament organizations don't want to deal with these issues. Sometimes it seems like they actually view the person with the complaint as the problem. The tournament officials need to simply do their job, listen to both anglers and weigh the evidence and make a decision. A decision mind you not based on them being upset that they have to deal with this problem now. It needs to be a decision based on what actually happened no matter who it was.

    As a tournament albeit not at that level, I’ve experienced both sides of such scenarios! I’ve pulled myself outside of a tournament because my partner & I inadvertently broke a rule. As soon I was made aware, I called the tournament director and disqualified ourselves! It also pisses me off when fellow competitors knowingly break the rules in front of you then deny that it happened when you report it! 🤬🤬🤬G-Man has also been on both sides of this issue and I do believe that he handled it correctly!

    You stated a key point, Standard. Individuals lashing out against someone for upholding a standard is a product of our society & a continuum of lowering that standard in individual character. These are pro's & should at a minimum uphold that standard if not exceed it. I applaud Swindle in the way this was handled. He went to him man to man & then when no self action was to take place he upheld the standard. Same with Upshaw, I watched the videos & this story was collaborated by other anglers who visually witnessed the same thing. I am not familiar with the Eric situation yet. What Trey did was wrong and he should've owned it. This isn't just the anglers passion, it's there job as well and they still have to provide for their families. There's always the chance that the rule that Trey broke gave him an unfair advantage over the other anglers which is basically taking money away from them. Gerald did the right thing and Trey didn't. That's on him and hopefully he learned from his mistake.

    This is a simple answer. They either police themselves honestly or takeaway money from their pockets to put police is places that are most likely to get caught, but make the penalties much more difficult, like fines. Golf is a fine example, if you can’t play by their rules. They don’t want you playing. Those that can’t fish by the rules hurt the pro sport and that goes for any sport.

    • @GetUrFishOn

    Why should Gerald take a chance of getting penalized if he didnt say anything and he was classy going to McKinney first and still getting a smart assed comment and a handshake from McKinney. Would McKinney have taken a chance of being penalized if he saw Gerald do something wrong, no way.

    The fact that people are having a conversation and an opinion on an angler breaking a rule is mind blowing. You break a rule you pay the piper. He should been DQ’d for the day. There’s no discussion, opinions, arguments or anything else, rule violations have consequences plain and simple. Then there’s the whining and crying about when and how Gerald went about telling the rule breaker. Who cares who the hell was standing there, if you wouldn’t have broken rules you wouldn’t have that problem. You want to break rules and not pay attention you should maybe find another hobby or job.

    LET ME HELP ON THIS PLEASE
    1.
    if I was fishing say by a bridge and someone didn't power down in time but did afterwards
    """ I wouldn't say one word""
    2. if someone does something but did it on purpose that is a huge difference you should get a DQ
    IF YOU DO SOMETHING AND REALIZE IT WAS WRONG AFTERWARDS THEN NO DQ BUT U MUST WAIT AT TAKE OFF FOR 30 MINS OR SO
    ??????
    if u take a polygraph at boat ramp in a car that took 30mins after 8 hours of fishing in 97 degrees
    and get a inclusive
    but out of pocket take one
    from fbi that took 4 hours and control area and pass
    what should happen ??

    • @GetUrFishOn
      @GetUrFishOn  Před 2 měsíci

    • @davidgoodspeed362
      @davidgoodspeed362 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Easier to pass a polygraph when you don’t watch the rules meeting. Did you violate any rules? Nope, because I have no idea what the rules are.
      Watching that pre-tournament meeting is their job. They should ask on the polygraph if they watched it. Didn’t watch. DQ’d
      End the nonsense. Know the rules. Enforce the rules.

      agree 100%
      it happen to me got a inclusive at boat ramp but I like my reputation so I paid out of picket at fbi to retest and pass
      the fbi tester told me
      hard to get a real test in 30 mins plus being in a car where folks walking by could cause a false
      crazy with fbi it was hours in a control room
      fact at the ramp 3 questions
      at fbi 10 total
      oooo by the way I did fail the safety question at fbi
      after the test I ask the fbi guy why he said if I had any thoughts of not wearing my Vest when I crank up then that is probably why
      the fbi guy went into detail
      ramp test was not
