  • Hey guys! In this episode we finally put our Everything Attachments box blade to use! We work on digging out an area for our water main to go in on the main road. Additionally, we show you about leveling the box blade front to back & left to right tilt.

Thanks guys for another great video, be glad to have all that deva hair to wave :) I appreciate how you explain your techniques on what your doing with your tractor as well as your other projects. The box blade hook-up was very helpful for rookies like me. I am no expert, so, I have no critical comments. I just enjoy seeing how other people tackle their projects. I must say, some methods are definitely more preferred than others...LOL! That soil turned up nicely. The more I watch this tractor, the more I contemplate this model over the L series..hmmm

      Thanks Pete!
Honestly I would cut my hair short but it stands straight out like a chia pet, lol. Look close at the L verse the B series. We did and honestly the B series was all we felt we needed. Its doing better than expected. Today we went over to the property and worked a bit on the property line. It is very tight quarters and the L series would have been a real hassle turning around while the B series is very easy to maneuver. Go to a dealer and try both tractors. Take the same path and turn around as tight as the B will go. Then see how much work it is to make that same turn around with the L. Plus the L is harder on the soil than the B.
Also read the specs on both tractors. They are very similar. One thing we really liked on the B is the lever control for the front end loader is in a much better location.
One reason to buy the L would be if you needed the extra weight.

Yeah it had to happen some time. A new car we try to keep spotless. We want the tractor to stay new but in reality its a tool so we use it accordingly.
For some reason you keep popping up in our videos, lol. You give some good advice and its understandable. We appreciate that. We know how much it takes to make these things and how little return they earn. Ya just gotta love it to keep filming and posting these videos. Honestly our main motivation is just to document the building of our homestead. Then we can look back and enjoy it over again. For us its a blast doing this entire project.
That tip on setting the 3 point hitch was really a great way to do it. Thanks for sharing. We are always looking for a better way to do things.
Playing in the dirt is exactly what it is. We would stay out there all day every day if we could.

Thanks man! I love telling them, lol. Had some good times over my life. Life is what you make of it.
Box blades can make life easier for sure. I think a box blade and the loader are in my opinion at least in our case the first things you need to buy. They do make life easier. Then we bought a set of forks which can be priceless when needed. We don't have a grapple but the forks do as good a job in many instances if you have the brush already in proper piles that the forks can handle. We have moved piles and piles of brush and logs that way without much issue. The grapple is not perfect at all and if you watch people using them in videos you almost always see stuff falling off left and right. Its all gotta be dealt with and many times by hand so whats the point? If you use the grapple to scoop up the stuff that falls along your transportation rout the grapple gonna ultimately scrape the surface of that area which is not something you want to do in many instances like a fine finished lawn. So whats the alternative? Pick it up by hand and put it in piles.

Yes we are blessed to have each other and have the same goals. We run two small businesses together as well. We are electrical contractors doing high end residential work and we run a small Video and Photography business. It keeps us busy. In both businesses we started together from scratch. We just decided to do it and then did what it took to make it happen. We are proof that the American dream is still alive. The problem that most have is not being willing to work for nothing for a long period in order to be successful. They want the rewards before putting in the efforts.
We willing as long as it is possible.

First off the box blade should be horizontal to work right. It would be wise to invest in a quick hitch for the back of your tractor. I suggest a Kubota 10 series. You definitely are going to be using more equipment with your piece of property.

If you dropped the lower attachment of the box blade to the lowest hole the tractor would work more efficiently. The lowest hole is for the most aggressive land attachments, the highest hole is for the easiest work (e.g. towing).

      Dear Terry,
Thank you very much for your courteous reply. I like your sense f humour & indeed as you rightly said earlier: without humour life's is misery. I feel the same. Out of curiosity how much does a Kubota tractor like yours costs. What comes as standard??? It's a really nice little machine; I am sure careful as you are it'll give years years of sterling service. Kind regards.

    • @ForestToFarm
      @ForestToFarm  Před 6 lety +1

The tractor was $13,959. The Loader was $3,499. The Forks (not seen in this video) were $699. We bought when it was a "package deal" so there was $700 off for one implement and $ 300 off for the second implement.
The tractor generally has a price and each item adds to the overall price. they are expensive and there are other less expensive options out there but Kubota is a proven tough long lasting option so we went with it. We hope to pass it on to my grand kids one day.
The box blade was purchased separately and was $700 plus we had custom orange paint at $150. Money very well spent. We love that tractor and it will save us from many aces and pains.

      Dear Terry,
Thank you very much for your reply. Indeed a hefty investment ( still cheaper than a decent car but can do a lot more!!!) but I guess with these things, one has to look long term & whilst substantial initially perhaps not so if spread over the years you'll be using it & save on labor costs & hiring charges & to boot you pass it on as family heirloom totally free for the next generation. A wise investment Sir, very astute of you. Kind regards.

Also i work for a utility company and we have the same guide lines when any excavation is going on i have done many lines locating. But our state says we have 48 hours to get our lines located. After a job construction has been phoned in the Contractor can begin working with in 72 hours after notification has been made. This call should be made to protect all parties. Hey Dave, no sir we do not have a tiller. We thought about it and that would seem to be a good idea. Maybe one day we will get a tiller but right now we have a huge expense doing all this work building the houses and developing the land.
There are many things that would make this process easier but we only have so much money we can afford to spend so we just make due with what we have most of the time.

I'm pretty certain you missed the title of your vid. A water meter is not a "main" and grading a ditch isn't exactly digging. But sincere thanks for the vid. I've got the same B2650 and need a boxblade for grading too.

By definition: Noun. water main (plural water mains) The principal underground pipe for conveying water to residential and business properties.
In other words its a water main. I work residential construction and have for many many years and it has always been called a water main in my circles. We do high end residential work in the roughly half million dollar range and up sometimes.
A far as grading a ditch a ditch not being "digging" I guess you did not understand that this was video 1 of 2 or more showing this process. There will be more "digging" in the future videos.
As far as the 5 or 6 foot wide goes actually its a little over 15 foot wide which again can be seen by watching the video at around 19:30.
Oh and additionally from your initial comment where you said you did not see how a "shallow" 5 or 6 foot wide ditch helps driving a water line. Well first off it was between 2 and 3 feet that we dropped the ground level. That ground is going to be dropped several hundred feet down along the road. That was made clear in the video in the first 3 minutes or less. That is why I jokingly commented back to you about watching the video.
Additionally sometimes video can be deceiving when it comes to depth and distance. Look at the 15 minute mark in the video and I think you will be better able to see how much the drop in grade is. We needed to drop this portion of the land so that when we come back later to drop the rest on further down the road, this area would not end up 3 foot higher than the rest.
Hope this helps you understand a little better what our plan here is. Its all going to work out and maybe when we get all the work done it will be more clear to you.
The box blade we are using in that video came from Everything Attachments in NC. Travis was our salesman and its is awesome! You should check them out, they have top quality equipment.
      Hope this helps.

They are awesome! Talk to Travis at Everything Attachments. They are American made and top notch. far better than Land Pride or County Line in my opinion. Go look at them and then compare to EA's. Here is Travis's facebook page. facebook.com/profile.php?id=100014838580427
