  • The Bhagavad Gita, "Song of the Lord", is the most popular scripture in Hinduism. Many regard it to be a summary of all the Hindu scriptures, and it offers answers to life for all people, regardless of their faith. We give a brief introduction to The Bhagavad Gita. It's a great place to start for anyone interested in knowing more about Hinduism.

    1:32 "Gita does not advocate war". That is partially true. Gita advocates duty. The kingdom had been wrongfully usurped from the Pandavas and when all forms of talks with Kauravas had failed then war was the last and only resort resort.

    I didn't read Gita. Your summary makes it so clear and easy to understand what is in Gita. Thank you for sharing. When I was very little my Dad used to go read it at a temple (in India) on weekends and a lot of people would sit around and listen. He died when I was 6 years old! It's so long ago....I am here in US now but I still think about those times and think about my Dad :( !!

      The thing about Gita is that it doesnt mention Hinduism. Because its a collection of philosophies, refined overtime. It was not based on any fixed idea of God.

      @satyab8744 Před rokem

      Sir, you can worship whom ever you want , but Gita talks about karma theory( reincarnation), but your book talks about single life, then why some people are born blind and poor and mentally ill and color and rich if only one life(, that is only because of our past life karma , that means we have previous births as well)

  • @oneness7866
    @oneness7866 Před 5 lety +1

    The Bhagavad Gita, introduced & translated by Eknath Easwaran
    „Why does selfless action lead to Self-realization? It is not a matter of "good" action being divinely rewarded. Self-realization ist not some kind of compensation for good deeds. We can understand the dynamics if we remember that the Gita' emphasis is on the mind. Most human activity, good and bad, is tainted by ego-involvement. Such activity cannot purify consciousness, because it goes on generating new karma in the mind - in practical terms, we go on getting entangled in what we do. Selfless work purifies consciousness because when there is no trace of ego involvement, new karma is not produced; the mind is simply working out the karma it has already accumulated.
    Shankara illustrates this with the simile of a potter's wheel. The ego's job is to go on incessantly spinning the wheel of the mind and making karma-pots: new ideas to act on, fresh desires to pursue. When this pointless activity stops, no more pots are made, but for a while the wheel of the mind goes on spinning out of the momentum of its past karma. This is an anguishing period in the life of every mystic: you have done everything you can; now you can only wait with a a kind of impatient patience. Eventually, for no reason that one can understand, the wheel does come to a stop, dissvolving the mind-process in samadhi.“

    The highest principle of bhagavad Gita is complete surrender to God and not wishing to continue in samsara. Trasfer to spiritual world. Living being , God , Time , Karma [ action/duty etc ] and Natury [ Maya ] are all eternal. so aim of living being is to end the cycle of birth and death.

      That is a great question! The western "Yoga" is more of a physical practice rather than a path towards liberation. It can be incorporated into any of the three Yogas. But if I had to pick, I would say Karma Yoga because it helps to optimize your body for working and living in this material world.

    Hi, raj yoga. The practice of meditation. You did not mention this path.

    • @Aumkar
      @Aumkar  Před 2 lety

      Raj Yoga is not explicitly mentioned in the Bhagavad Gita. This is a path that is extremely rare and difficult to take. Note that nowadays there is a trend to practice "Raj Yoga", but this is not the original raj yoga.The real raj yoga is an arduous path where one rejects all formal teachings and teachers and embarks on their own journey. It involves forming your own hypothesis as to the nature of what exists beyond this material world, testing your own hypothesis through rigorous self-experimentation, and arriving at your own conclusion. An example of someone who did this is the Shakyamuni Buddha.

  • @everythingisupsidedown9593

    Greetings! Thank you! Hey, have you ever met someone anywhere who has achieved Moksha?

    • @Aumkar
      @Aumkar  Před 3 lety +2

      Great question! I have not, but my parents and grandparents have. They are rare, and usually do not advertise themselves. By the time they reach moksha, they are beyond materialism and do not care about fame. So if you ever hear anyone boast that they have attained moksha/nirvana, be very skeptical.

  • @arachnid83
    @arachnid83 Před 5 lety +1

    I think there is Raja Yoga too, but not explicitly stated. (I might be wrong).

    • @Aumkar
      @Aumkar  Před 5 lety +2

      Yes, Raja Yoga is the 4th path--one that is not a commonly taken path. It essentially requires one to remove all pre-conceptions and discover the truth by yourself through empirical experience. Very few have taken this path, such as Lord Buddha. The Gita recommends either Gyan, Karma, or Bhakti paths since those are attainable in our current lifetime.

  • @glennpowell1838
    @glennpowell1838 Před 5 lety +4

    Krishna is NOT an avatar. Krishna is the AVATARI, the source of all other avatars of Vishnu. Krishna never"reincarnated" because that term pertains to the material body. Lord Krishna NEVER has a material body. he incarnates NOT reincarnates. The battlefield of Kuruksetra is a historical fact. It is not only a metaphor, although it can be used as such. The term Hinduism was made up by Muslims. It does not exist in the Bhagavad Gita.

  • @elwoodguy7955
    @elwoodguy7955 Před 3 lety +1

    Isn’t Raja Yoga another way to reach Moksha ?

    • @Aumkar
      @Aumkar  Před 3 lety +3

      That is an interesting question. Raj yog is outside the realm of the Gita. THe Gita mentions Gyan, Karma, and Bhakti yogas. The Raj yog you hear about in modern-day discourse is not like the original Raj yog, but rather like Gyan yog. Real Raj yog is an extremely difficult path only taken by a handful of individuals (such as Lord Buddha). In that path, you have to let go of any preconceived notions of knowledge and enlightenment. Therefore, you cannot have any teacher or text show you the path. You have to come up with your own hypothesis of what is enlightenment, come up with your own methods to test that hypothesis, and then finally reach it yourself. This is the steepest path towards Moksha, but still possible.

      In Hinduism - God is a pool of collective conciousness of the entire universe. He is not a master you have to serve and play by the rule book. Eventually your conciousness ends up in the common pool from where it was born. It is the exact spritual analogy of what happens to our body on earth. So belief in GOD doesnt really matter.

    The whole idea of reincarnation looks to me more like multiverse hypothesis, where you as a Being are extended in multiple different versions of yourself at the same time. You are different in these parallel universes yet, that is you. All versions of you are indeed disconnected in both space and time. Maybe only special being that isn't limited by 3 dimensions can experience all versions of themselves.
