Remember when a knock on Saban was he wouldn't stay anywhere long. People recruited against him saying he would be gone from Bama in 5 years tops. Look at his record prior to being in T-town. Where he turned it into Title Town. As an assistant he never was anywhere more than 4 years and mostly 1 or 2 years. Then at Michigan State as head coach 5 years, then LSU 4 years, and Miami 2 years. That was the book on Saban, even with success he wasn't going to stay put. Bama was different. So whether the new guy can be Saban or not is yet to be determined. If it is in him, Bama is still somewhere a coach like him will likely stay a long time.
I could see DeBoer heading to the NFL, that'd be the only reason he'd leave Tuscaloosa on his own.

I've been screaming this for weeks! We upgraded our Coaching Staff at every position! I'm a die-hard Bammer who bleeds Crimson but Coach Saban has been a step behind teams we use to CRUSH & DOMINATE! Saban also had been softening up the last few years. Prime Saban goes out on the field & drags Seth Mcglaughin by his face mask & ushers him to the locker room after bad snap after bad snap or moving the ball or snapping it before Milroe's ready! Plus, some of the dumb things Milroe does like telegraphing passes, taking way too many 20-30 yd sacks, not securing the ball, Prime Saban spanks Milroe like he did A.J.Mccarron lol 😂

@@wizza2315 No sure BAMA "upgraded" the staff at every position, but there we constant wholesales Saban had to deal with.
NIL & the Portal has prevented BAMA from stockpiling the depth it used to have. Saban did all he could, and maintain his integrity, to build solid teams. In my mind he adapted well with scenario CFB coaches are going through.
Now I do agree Saban has calmed down on the sidelines and he has admitted as much. One reason is his Dr told him he needed to for health reasons.

Matt, I think you may be missing what Alabama had done over their history. Alabama has had 5 head coaches to win national titles. Wade 3, Thomas 1 (1941 is one alot of Bama people claim, but I don't) Bryant 6, Stallings 1, Saban 6. Harold Drew, Ray Perkins, Bill Curry, Mike Dubose, Dennis Franchione, and Mike Shula all at least had one 10 win season, Shula in '05, but NCAA vacated those wins. As long as DeBoer hired the right people around him and on his staff? If DeBoer wins 10 games, Bama is a playoff team. Probably an SEC champion with the way the game is headed. 10 wins will be a phenomenal seaaon. My point is that Kalen DeBoer is going to do fine. My issue is will the fanbase be ok with not winning 10 - 13 games a season, year after year? I mean, Dubose won an SEC championship, and beat Steve Spurrier's Gators twice in a season. Franchione and Shula had their 10 win seasons with all kinds of NCAA issues abound, mediocre recruiting classes, and mediocre staffs. The one thing I think Alabama is lucky to have at that university is Greg Byrne! That dude knows how to get the right guy. He hired Nate Oats, and that guy may be the top coach in the SEC right now.

With the rise of NIL and the transfer portal, I believe that on-the-field coaching will become a lot more important than it has been in the past. I believe Deboer's previous record proves that the guy can coach. Alabama was winning way before Saban flew into town. Why do these talking heads act like Alabama never won without Saban...?
It’s not egregious but, it feels like people are ignoring the fact that the big schools also benefit, A LOT, from the TP and NIL. Ryan Day just got a free all american safety, a 5 star QB he failed to recruit and now I’m supposed to believe he got better as a coach?
Bama was not an elite program when Saban arrived. They were basically your typical 8-4 team, at best.

It’s years 3-5 that will tell the tale, almost talent alone will make playoffs first two years, unless the coaching staff is completely incompetent.
The quarterback play has got to improve and I don’t think Jalen Milroe can do that Ty Simpson or Houston Mac Will be the starter Most of your talking heads or saying the sky is falling in Alabama I think we’re gonna be better
Saban did a fabulous job with Milroe last year. You are correct, though. Milroe is not a top-tier QB.

I think we finish in the top 10. Probably 2 - 3 years from a NC although we will never win it again if we can't come up with the money. Rivals has BAMA as number 2 class but Julian Sayin is still listed as a player and Sayin ain't stayin. We've lost a lot of other talent as well.
I agree! Saban left the fridge loaded. With the guys we've got coming back the monster recruiting class coming in & the guys we've picked up in the portal combined with some ELITE COACHES has ALL the makings of a team that will be DOMINATE in my opinion! Only player who left that hurts was C.D. everybody else has elite replacements! DeBoer took a bunch of 3 ⭐ walk-ons & transfers to the National Championship game! Imagine what he's going to do with a roster full of 4 & 5 ⭐

Alabama will take a step back. It’s already happening. That’s the cycle of programs. Bowden, Osborne, Spurrier couldn’t stay on top forever and neither could their programs. That’s simply the cycle of competition in CFB. Eventually they’ll find their way back to the top but it will be several years.
When Spurrier left Urban Myer took over and made Florida even better...what are you talking about?!

That’s not true. Meyer to Day was smooth. Richt to Smart was smooth. Oklahoma has had 3 HC in the past decade and they’ve only had one down year.
