Honestly I blame the enthusiasts for this one. I've been watching Type R reviews for years because I want to get one someday. The number one complaint I've seen in dozens of reviews was the sound or lack thereof. It was obviously consistently bad enough PR that they tried adding this feature.

I've watched dozens of videos about the Civic Type R, but this is the FIRST one that convinces me to go and test drive one at the dealer. Hey Sarah, I found your channel about a month or so through various car enthusiast/maintenance videos. Been watching your videos here and there, I'll let youtube take me on a journey a lot, and I quite enjoy the vlogs you do. It is just really nice to see your approach to projects and things and love your quality of work.
This is just the second car review I encountered from you... gotta say, this is top tier stuff right here. There are 0 seconds that are boring, its super informative, and covers just about every thing I feel you need to know while leaving out the riff raff. Awesome job, I really do think these are some of the best reviews across all platforms. So much is accomplished without drone footage and mounting 80 go pros; its insane that you can convey answers to questions on how the car performs with just a camera aimed at your face. I'm not even remotely car hunting right now nor will I be for quite some time, yet I am still looking forward to checking out some more of these as well as all your content. I really like that Honda made their Type R to be all manual transmission; the only disadvantage is the electronic parking brake. Bring back that lever !

Sarah, I'm so glad you finally got to review one of these cars. I totally agree with you, that hot hatches are super fun to drive. As the owner of a 2018 Focus RS, I've been waiting to see what you thought of the Type R, as the RS is one of its main competitors. One of my neighbors has a Type R and put an aftermarket exhaust on it and it sounds a ton better. Great review, as always. Keep 'em coming.

My husband and I each have one. We drove them at VIR, Road Atlanta, Summit Point, etc. we did go to 265 wheels. Handles great and pulls out of a turn like nobody’s business. Nice review. Thanks. ❣️

This is the most fun driving hot hatch, I love how Honda revised the suspension and the brakes!
I enjoy the look of anticipation before every braking test....

Needs a sound generator delete
On the 2020 Type R, it's behind the glove box. Some removal of parts to access it. Then you just unplug it
You just have to unplug the ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) module. I have a 2018 Accord that has the same fake engine sounds. I disconnected the ANC because I added a subwoofer and some upgraded speakers, and the ANC will have a hissyfit with an aftermarket sub. Fringe bonus: no more fake engine sounds. And the cabin doesn't seem any noisier to me without the ANC than it was with it.
No, it needs selectable sounds. Like a mosquito noise, or an elephant stampede, or a tea kettle.

I know a couple ppl that have these and everyone deletes the fake noise also coming fron the ST community we all delete the sound symposer as well

This is late, but from one vet to another thank you for your service.
You know I think you represent the car culture of tuners quite well...... you have passion and charisma that engulfs you and also the looks like Morticia.
I've been enjoying my Type R since 2018. It reliably took me through Europe on many occasions.
The 20" wheels are a little too much, but are really food in the summer.
The 2020 Type R Sport Line has 245/35 19" wheels, which in my opinion are the better choice. But the small spoiler doesn't fit the car at all.
$40k isn't that bad of a deal, considering, that at the end of the 90's, you would pay just as much for a Porsche GT3 with about the same power but way less practicality.
And it's a Honda, so you know it is reliable for many years to come.
There was a company at SEMA in 2019 that made a rear electric drive that made it even quicker and to act like an AWD car.
Fastest way to go out of business is sticking great engineering under an ugly body
@@mikeb3172 if that were true, Subaru would have been out of business ages ago. Instead, they are thriving (2014 Outback owner) because we've grown to love the ugly/weirdness because of what's under it.

Mostly spot on. I think you might like my '18 CTR better. No fake noise, cleaner look, less nannies. And more attainable versus the marked up new models.
Value is there for those who know. Honda sells every Type R they make. Usually at over MSRP. Resale is spectacular. The market gets it. You get it. Don't be so quick to sell your fellow enthusiasts short. For a car that does so much so well, yeah it's worth it. I had a fantastic '17 SI and still stepped up to get the '18 Type R last year. Enough said.

Surprised the bean score is so low, I was expecting it would well into the 3's. I've always thought those fake engine sound generators should be customizable, including an off setting. I was definitely expecting more sound from the actual exhaust. Fun review as always!

Finally!!! Regarding smaller wheels in the real world, little to no torque steer with 18/19" wheels. We've been tracking them for a couple years with no issues. Also, the HPD developed TC CTR also runs on 18" wheels.

Ive had my white type r for about 10 months now, and i absolutely love it! On track to have 25k miles on it in my first year if ownership😂
Congrats on getting hold of a Honda Civic Type R ! Great review! I love the car so much I bought one! We were able to buy it new with no mark up from the dealer! It is the perfect car for our family. I have the 2019 version so I don't have to deal with the fake piped in sound. Speakers should be for music. Because of this I think the 2019 version is the sweet spot. Not having that fake sound actually allows me to hear the engine when I shift and it is a great sounding engine. This is not only one of the best cars I have ever owned, this is one of the best cars I have ever driven. Too bad I heard a rumor that Honda will stop selling the Honda Civic Type R after 2021 so if people want one, they should get one more sooner than later. You actually don't save too much buying used because they hold their values so well. Again, great job. Driving this car is pure bliss!

I still drive a 93 Honda Prelude SR that I bought new. I love front wheel drive. Still have original shocks ,break pads and windshield with 275000 kms on it. Honda is the best.

Really beautifully styled car, but I would probably guess it would have a pretty harsh ride because of those low profile tires. Would have loved to see a 2 door version of the Civic R

I have a 2018 Competition White. Hands down the most fun of all the cars I have. Low end torque is a blast! Like my NSX, gear box is tight! Wing looks obnoxiously awesome. I had the ecu tuned by K-Tuner. I agree...more fun than a super car!

Sarah if you want to review my tuned FBO Type R let me know, I live about and hour and half away. Thankfully you can use an 18x9.5 +45 wheel without reintroducing torque steer.

Keep the evo , get a used 8th gen si and boost it . Best honda motor ever made . better than the new ctr engine . K20z3 . Ariel atom uses it , caterham also took it
