This is the Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition… And it just might be one of the greatest cars Honda has EVER released!
The question is, what makes the Type R Limited Edition so special? After all, under the bonnet you’ll find the usual 2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which puts out the usual 320hp & 400Nm of torque.
Well trust us, there are more than a few changes to be found with this all-new limited edition hot hatch! Missed opportunity of Honda engineers: By removing seat belts and air bags, you can fly more easily out of windshield further reducing car's weight.
I would remove the seats. I mean who needs seats ?

Well, there is a normal type r for you if you want all that, which I'd personally pick. I kinda feel like this limited edition is a bit unnecessary tho, unless they put different engines with different power output, if its just for all that weight reduction, its pointless, since anyone who would take track driving seriously would pretty much reduce the weight themselves 🤔

@@MisticDW looks are down to opinion but that aside there’s plenty of evidence online to support what I’m saying. Honda took a few years with r and d developing it. They spent a lot of money, word has it the next car will have the same chassis. 👍
And we'll finish it off with a fake infotainment system. In fact, we won't even give them one at all all 🤔
they removed the front fake vents and just made it a smooth black panel

And electric window switches.. all useless marketing bs. pretty disappointing. i bet all of the wiring and electronics underneath are the same

@@rdmz135 quite likely actually as the virtual dash uses similar data as before. the infotainment removal just saved the hardware.
They could've removed the rear seats and have the option for a carbon fiber roof, boot lid, bonnet and bucket seats
And then add a rev limiter
5:36 the vents on the side are actually functional, the hood scoop channels air down the inside of the flared fenders creating a curtain of air down the side of the vehicle.

5:20 those vents are functional. If you open the hood, the air from the hood scoop enters the fenders via a channel and exits through those vents for extra downforce.

I have a 2020 model Type R GT, there are a few things that frustrate me with the infotainment system and implementation of the drive modes but, BUT once i get it on some twisty roads i forget them all, such a great drivers car.
Man, I really wish that Sportline was available in the US! Love the toned down wing and black interior.

This is a limited edition type r for the track, there’s a lot of porsches, Lamborghinis, ferraris that remove the aircon, radio to save weight for their lightweight track cars, obviously Porsche charges you extra if you want to add them back 😂

The vents on the wings are for the air flow through the bonnet scoop. Directs air into that, through channels in the wings and out the vents.
We love ours and we will never sell. We have the 2017 Type R. At least we have the stereo the air con and the deadening. I wouldn't buy an R without it. We drive it around as a daily and love the feel, then again we love the hard ride and the big car feel. Oh and by the way we are in our 60's ! Great for touring around in big Australia.

Matt. You know the bonnet scoop that you said in a previous video cools the turbo (it doesn’t) actually funnels air to the front wing vents that you think are fake.

Why didn’t they remove the rear seats and make up the hood and roof out of carbon fiber instead of getting rid of the infotainment and ac?
They could have just stripped the whole car out if they wanted a “serious” track car
maybe for practicality and cost effective?
Making the roof and hood with carbon fibre would greatly increase the price

Removing the A/C is a no go for me. I can always add in,an aftermarket stereo, but I would just go with a standard or sportline Type R if I were to ever get one.
That's why they only make 120 of these. All the people who buy them buy them because of their collectibility because nobody would buy these normally.

The side vents assist with VTEC (very tall engine cooling). As the engine naturally runs hot.
The wheel arch vents are not fake. They're connected 2 the hood vent. Air comes in muddle, which then splits left n right then air exits the fended vents. I work at Honda btw

The vents on the sides of the car get air channeled through them from the hood scoop, if you pop the hood you will notice a Metal Duct that runs from the center of the Hood/Bonnet to the sides of the Bonnet which are met with holes that lead to the sides of the car where those side vents are. They are indeed Functional and not fake.

Seen a Civic Type r the other day it has so much presence but I couldn't have it as my one and only car......would have one if I had a number of cars or as a second car because this on a weekend blast would be ace. To me it looks like the car you have to blast everywhere

To Honda - please release the Previous Version of Honda Civic Type R in India, I’m a great fan of this Car. Right now I’m using a Honda City ZX IVTEC 2006 model and the car is still lovely.

I have a type r and Shelby gt350. Love both but if I had to choose 1, it'll be the type r.
The colour reminds me of the buzzing hornet Jordan Honda's.
It's a real diffuser my man, its works with the flat underside to create the "Venturi effect" the whole car has real aerodynamics. As for the front fenders there are air channels under the hood which direct air to the sides. I learnt a lot whilst looking for mine, though you say it is stiff, its not as stiff as the fk2.

The fender vents are fed from the naca duct on the hood - they evacuate heat from underhood.

I love the look of this Civic Type R for now as opposed to the new models to come out in a year or so; the news ones look too bland, dulled down and European. It’s a combination of “Honey I Shrunk the Accord” while also looking like a Jetta. I like this one’s edginess; and while not everyone agrees with the styling, this one has style and is recognizable.
I suppose once those 22’ models come out, we’ll see just how good they look and perform; just first impressions make it look much more bland than this one’s style. They could have made the Civic stay an edgy “boy racer” car and have the Accord be the “grown up, reserved adult” car with an Accord Type R variant.
Speaking of; I’d love to see Honda bring back an Accord wagon since they only have sedans now and no longer any coupes.
Interesting to see they removed some creature comforts like the air con and infotainment on the limited editions; like the old NSX-R and S-Zero.
Yeah, give it a few years and people will be saying - "oh the FK8 was so unique, the new ones are too boring" Can't win😂😂

It could be the greatest car ever made and could go round the nordschleife in 6 minutes flat while being more comfortable than a Rolls Royce and curing cancer in all its occupants, it still looks horrible.
The EK9 and EP3 were understated and cool! This is a hatchback spaceship designed by a 9 year old.

Matt the side vents aren't fake. There's gaps that go from the hood scoop to the side vents.
Imagine this with 4WD, 100HP more and 99% less aero looks!
Now THAT would be PERFECT!
Congrats on completely missing the point of the car..if it had those things it would be the same as every other boring 4wd hatch out there and it would be too heavy and wouldn't be the drivers car that it is.

Only people who haven’t driven one complain about it, the type r handles as well as a lightweight rwd car, the grip, steering is unbelievable probably the best fwd car I’ve ever driven. Its almost more fun driving a type r than a rwd on track
