I was Shocked. Toyota Tacoma vs Jeep Eco Diesel Gladiator Snow Test.

- Today we have a 2021 Toyota Tacoma vs a 2021 Jeep Gladiator diesel. I think a snow test is a great way to see the differences in tire size, break over angle and traction aids. It's also a great excuse to get outside and have some fun with my buddies!
Lucky for us the snow this week wasn't too crazy so we were able to have a ton of fun in our stock rigs. But very soon we will take my diesel TJ up into the woods and find the deep stuff!
I hope you guys enjoy the video!

love seeing maxtracks used properly. wheel spin to a minimum. nice and easy. no melting of the studs.
Exactly. I let someone borrow mine and the destroyed them by melting them and exseesuve wheel spin.
@@ati573 That sucks. It's why I don't loan out current recovery gear anymore. Wana borrow my old as hell come along go ahead. Beat up high lift, good luck be safe watch your fingers. Some chain,, good luck wrecking that.. The rest naw hers a link to buy yer own or I'm free x time to come help ya do it right.
@@chublezya I learned a valuable lessen.
Good thing the version he’s using are using the metal studs... :)
@@uansari1 I didn't know they made alloy studded versions. good eye
One method for.going through deep snow : don't go fast. Go until you start to spin, back up and with a little bit of throttle, ram further down the road, back up and continue to do that. Essentially you will be breaking your own trail.
Yeah, air-down and pack it, don’t plough it up.
Only Jeep owners are surprised by how well Toyotas perform.
Why I love wheeling with Jeep groups
Just wait until the first time the DPF plugs up on that diesel... He will need a whole different kind of tow.
Years ago we had a Toyota truck, so we just walked everywhere.
@George Washington lmao
@3:39 Holy wobble, Jeep!
The title: y'all may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like. And i never fault a man for working to feed his family and succeed in what he loves. Great video man.
Lol thanks brother
Please let’s see one more stock wheeling trip if you can fit it in. I really think people see all the modified stuff and think they can’t do anything stock, reality is driver is the most important mod
Driver mod is certainly important lol
Agree completely, you can "get good" with a stock vehicle
I agree! I think it's especially cool to see someone so familiar with driving modified vehicles to attack stuff in a stalker. A lot of people by these then don't really have the budget to go crazy modding them, so it's nice to see stock or fairly stock in action.
I agree, I always find it much more interesting to watch.
@@darkowloffroad I’m not sure exactly what you’re saying and could have missed the a point but I disagree. Lockers and big tires can mask bad driving and break parts. Everyone should take a go at small tires and open diffs and learn momentum, throttle control and line choice.
Glad to see a Jeep owner giving credit to a Toyota. I know you're now a Toyota owner too! Both vehicles are very capable out of the box.
I think tires have more to do with it than vehicle choice!!!
Tires help, but so does weight, weight distribution, power distribution and the way 4 wheel or all wheel drive kicks in.
From the video it seems like the biggest thing holding both the Toyota and the Jeep back was just clearance. The best tires and all the traction you can get isn't going to let you drag all the snow on the mountain up with you.
Clearance and tire choice correct!!! Make nah!!!
Toyota all day over the crappy unreliable jeep that will leave you stranded on the road! Toyota with the same tires will not only do more than that jeep but will take you there and back! The jeep ....may take you there, but won't take you back home...clunk.
I have a seasonal category in my off road kit and I include snow shoes in the winter. They have saved my bacon a number of times.
As much as I love watching modded-up rigs blasting thru snow, I love seeing the bone stock ones just as much! Very impressive, great video man! 👍
We’ve been a long time Jeep family and my son just purchased a new Tacoma like yours. He’s getting ready to install a lift and all the other modifications that come with it. Looking forward to your upcoming videos. Great video, thanks!
Learned about the Yakum line and grip plates. Thanks. A 70 year old lady pal of my wifes got a 4x4 Tacoma on big wide snow tires and does quite well in Central Oregon snows.
Im an offroader.. Had RZRS and a off frame restore tj rubicon, then I just bought a new 2021 Diesel gladiator... and I appreciate this video more than you know!! Thanks!
So so happy to see your opinions of a stock Tacoma! Super excited to see what kind of mods you'll do to it!
Everyone is getting on board with Yankum. Awesome.
They have been a sponsor for a year and a half almost lol. I only promoted them in snow videos so you don't see their products very often. But this stuff is of the highest quality I have seen and I absolutely believe in it.
@@DirtLifestyle 3/4" or 7/8"? also do you guys ever bother with tire chains?
I was very impressed with my stock 84 Toy Xtracab delux. I drove in some plenty deep snow.
I can't wait for the mods to start coming together! Glad you're out enjoying your new toy
Had a 2010 Tacoma TRD. Lived in Colorado and had a great time off roading in the TRD. Perfectly capable in the mountains.
Production is top notch. Well done. The narrating is also right on point. Subbed... Glad to see the stock Tacoma do relatively well
Happy to see you had fun with your new TOY. Looks like you guys had lot of fun.
looking forward to seeing what you are going to create for the Tacoma.
Matt's Offroad Recovery is a channel that shows all the awesome shenanigans you can do with a Yankum rope!
Watching your channel is inspiring to check out what the PNW has to offer, and now that I finally got my Jeep, I can check out my backyard! I was just at Elbe yesterday 😁 thanks for doing what you do with your channel!
I always love your content on fabrications. You're very good at explaining stuff. However, IT"S AWESOME to see you go out there also. Glad you got to get out and some fun! Keep up the awesome content!
Much appreciated 🙏
Another great video!! And too see how well the Toyota hangs with the gladiator is super encouraging and I can’t see where you take this build!! Keep up the amazing work!!!👍
I have a stock 2016 Tacoma other than having 285/75r16 ko2s. I was leading a group through 33" of snow with no issues. It was super fluffy but I was still impressed
Great video! Love the narrative and filming just a pleasure to watch!
Just saw this video. Thanks for sharing! Although I haven’t gone in deep snow yet with my Taco, I feel more confident seeing what this truck is capable of ... in stock form! Subscribed immediately AND looking forward to the mods!
Welcome aboard! Happy to have you!
So stoked for this Tacoma build!
LOVE IT!!!
Getting my Toyota Tacoma TRD 4X4 OFFROAD in 3 weeks.
You just reminded me why I need to buy a second set of maxtracks. Great video as usual.
Dude. This is a slick video essay - well composed and very inspiring. Nicely done.
It was time! Glad to se you enjoyin
this video and the promise of the tacoma mods caused me to subscribe you also have a talent for narration and your good at it I like the content and look forward to seeing more
I subscribed to see the progress of your Tacoma. Can't wait.
Love the videos man. I'm a union sheetmetal worker down here in Austin Tx. I love seeing your fabrication videos and I own a 2020 taco so I am super stoked. Mad respect!
Thanks man!
Personally I loved the behind the scenes stuff.
Very well presented, clearly from someone with experience but not one track minded. We here in sunny South Africa don’t have either of the two, but I won’t mind either one of them.
If you ever look at rally snow tires, besides the spikes you will notice that they are very narrow. the reason is your not supposed to float on snow. Its best if you can cut though the snow to get to the dirt or road below. Hence airing down might actually be the opposite of what you need to do. I will admit that airing down might help prevent sinking in too far in extremely deep snow though.
Love what you do Nate. Keep up the good work. Eastern Washington guy here.
I traded my trd pro to an off road like yours, I've been thru a lot surfaces off roading and those trucks just refuses to get stuck, many are underestimating them but I'm certain now that they'll keep up 100% with those gladiators every day!
Great videos man, I subscribed 💪
Excited for this build but can’t help that I love tj’s and lj’s and was looking at those in the background half/most of the time
Congratulations on your new toy. Keep it up bro, love your videos
Love it Nate! Looking forward to the build.
With my Tacoma, I feel great watching this. . .thanks guys!
Great video! I have a Tundra & go wheelin with my buddies with Jeeps! But wheelin with anyone is always fun! 🤙🏻
Awesome content as always Nate. A long time toyota truck guy in early years, had to move to jeeps because trucks were too big for the wife to park. :) Both go well beyond what anyone would think when driven properly .. looks like so much fun. At altitude, would always each have a shovel, set of chains and sand/gravel bags in the bed though - to stop playing in time and get home before it got dangerous with changing weather...never bothered with recovery ropes or even knew of maxtrax at the time. The good ol' days...
It’s pretty impressive what these stock Tacoma’s are capable of straight from the factory!
I used to do stuff like that with my lifted blazer. That all changed after a friend introduced me to snowmobiling
I got me a 30' 1" Yankem rope love it. Works great with my 19 Power Wagon and 06 LJ
I love your videos man, please keep making videos like this and can you give us tips on how to drive on snow? Can’t wait to see you taco modifications.
Nice! Cool seeing a stock Taco in action, and that looks like a fun day with some beautiful scenery. Here in Rhode Island we haven't really gotten any snow yet, so I'm still waiting to get my 4Runner out and some stuff like that. Looking forward to the Taco build, even though it's a little different than the 4Runner it's kind of the same LOL.
Nate you are the most level headed youtuber out there.... I love your work.....would love more behind the scene vids or bloopers afterwards....... Yankum ropes are the best....
Much appreciated 🙏 thank you for watching
I’m ready to see the transformation of the yota!
More mod videos please, each vehicle is different but similar. What we didnt notice with the other builds might be an eye opener with this one. Keep up the great work!
Lots of Toyota owners who have MTS traction control dont realize how good it is. Just found your channel, really enjoyed it.
Nice video...look forward to watching your build. I have a 2019 Taco (same color) and starting in on my build as well. Will be interested to see what you come up with as well!!
Love your channel I am a Toyota guy at heart but more so love 4x4s and really appreciate you keeping it mixed up not stuck on one topic just open to being badass👍👍
Thanks buddy!
I enjoyed his video format! Keep it up!
Subbing for Taco mods, especially the front locker mod - can't wait. Thanks!
Good to see you guys up there.
I'm excited to see this project going!
The drone footage was spectacular. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Thank you!
Awesome video. The Toyota’s are amazingly capable out of the box. Cant wait to see what you have in store next. Loving my 2020 TRD Sport 4X4. If they made a TRD off road in a long box here in Canada I would have opted for that.
After a good stock rig, additional modifications seem to be exponentially more expensive with correspondingly diminished returns.
True, and as for the effectiveness -- it took me a couple builds to discover the path -- but now they all start with a locker, even before the tires.
@@heartsky exactly what I was thinking
Toyota's have great resale value as least
the scenery looks the same here near Mount St. Helens during the winter. i love the forest. Love exploring the trails here in aour suburban
Bro, i never followed your channel but after this video, i have shared it and will be a subscriber. Great video. I really look forward to seeing your Taco build... Welcome to Taco Family...
I was getting ready to build a bumper for my Tacoma, but now I want to wait and see what you do 🤣
Nice filming; mountains are so awesome to be in; especially in the snow; makes me feel insignificant and confident we are not killing the earth.
Thank you!
I’m glad you were surprised. I’m a die hard yota fan own a 4Runner and a taco and I’m usually the one saving everyone else.
Yota for life
Recently got a 21 army green off road so I will be following along from just SW of you in Oregon.
The Tacoma addition to to this channel makes it into my Top 5! I’ve got both a Pro Taco and a Rubicon Gladiator. They are both built for different uses from the factory and are both very capable. I don’t think comparing the two against each other as they are very different in construction. Having both, I feel as if I’m well rounded now.
LOVE what you're doing with your channel! I've seen some of your other videos but you've got another subscriber now!! Hope you don't go too over-the-top with the Taco, tho. They are really good trucks as you said in the video. Personally have a JLUR-D and TRD-O/R. Drove that (stock) Taco in a legit blizzard - with serious accumulation and ice - through DE, NJ, NY and into Canada. The thing didn't miss a beat - pretty much every other vehicle was in a ditch or headed there at 2 mph lol.
Thanks man! Welcome to the party! I think 35s will be a good size for this truck. Not to crazy but still much more capable in rocks 🤘
great video Matt, Tacomas have a ton of ability right out of the boxlike the Gladiator and it has a few inches more ground clearance and the thing that stopped it was the tires on it, the compound is more for rock or sand, your taco tires are softer helping get as far as you did, Toyota engineers are pretty thorough when they choose tires, I look super forward to the up coming mod videos on the Tacoma, not just tires and suspension , especially when you do the gears and the biggest one the front locker, you will probably have an extra 10k views for that one alone , with this current generation of Tacomas practically everybody thinks there's no front lockers available in the aftermarket for them , so this is going to help allot of peeps out that run Tacomas for off roading and the aftermarket will have you to thank for the upswing in business for Taco parts 👍
i've heard of this place but never checked it out before, looks fun, good excuse to go drive 2 this year.
I absolutely love that place for snow wheeling
I'm looking forward to seeing this build
Cool video! It will be interesting to see what you do with the ifs situation on the new Taco. I'm not a Jeep nor Toyota guy, they both have their pros and cons.
Good comparison with accurate commentary about facts
BHAHAAHHA!! at all of you fumbling through the deep snow on drone recovery duty. HILARIOUS!
I've owned two XJ's and one TJ and I've also owned two Tacoma's and currently have one now with a 3'' lift and 33's and honestly I think I'm going back to another Jeep this spring . Good luck with your Tacoma !
Also you have to love that Northwest pacific wet snow....not good!
That looked like fun. Always a bit better with buddies to help pull you out.
Great video, really enjoyed seeing some snow as we’re 40 miles from Mexico...
In miss my old Tacoma TRD, think it was a ‘98
Thank you!
Love the videos and fab work! Please please please build the Taco slightly more unique than every other taco out there. We've seen the same overland tacoma stuff 100000 times. Cheers!
So that's what this channel is coming too?... I like it!
Looks like cap forest. I love it out there.
Love your content. Thanks for turning me on to those yankum ropes. Just pre-ordered one.
I first owned a 2009 Wrangler Sahara but lost it in a divorce. It was a fun and versatile vehicle and I loved it.
Now I own a 2012 Taco Baja TX. Great little truck and it goes just about anywhere within reason.
Both vehicles were and are stock, and I prefer the Taco, but I wouldn't hesitate owning another Jeep. Each one has its advantages and besides, what a boring world it would be if we all had the same tastes.
Great video.
Nice Toyota can’t wait for you to get started plan on stealing some of your ideals for my ranger. Love the channel .
Looks like ya'll had a fun day. Not sure I would be brave enough to take any stick 4x4 out in the snow with those tires. At least you had a few Jeepers with you to pull or yank you out of sme tight spots.
Looking forward to seeing this new rig built videos.
I had the 2016 Tacoma TRD offroad with stock all terrain tires and just tore up deep snow and lots of ice while living in Alaska. I drove from Alaska to Texas in December through some serioiusly nasty icy areas and fairly deep snow with zero slips or issues. The Tacoma is a beast even stock, though sadly I just traded it in for a 2021 Tundra TRD offroad since I needed the towing capacity and room for the 2nd dog.
I was up there the same day as you in my stock 2021 TRD OR! We didn’t go past the Silverado though. Subbed to see where your build goes!
I've been up to Gold bar and Steven's Pass a bunch, but had never heard of Tonga Ridge. I'll have to go check it out! Might wait until summer tho.
More diesel Gladiator content please! I'm planning to order one next month.
I’m happy for you. Gotta put your Covid check to work.
Awesome video and gorgeous scenery!!
I love good yankum every once in awhile
Both capable rigs for the masses. I love that the gladiator has the freedom panel off!
All those rigs did well, that looks like a snowmobile trail to me 😂.
Would love to get out there, unfortunately I have to finish my rig first - hopefully there's still snow on the ground when I'm done but we'll see haha. Hmm.. wonder if my GF would notice if her TJ went missing for a weekend 😂.
love the tacoma content man. Everything else too!
Makes me feel a whole lot better about getting a red 2021. After years of driving old beaters i finally got one. Love your channel, it took one video to get me to subscribe and i look forward to seeing what kind of mechanical monstrosity you make of this. Also very nice to see you do all the fab work yourself instead of some of these "influencers" who use their likes and youtube tax write-offs to create someting they cant by filming other people putting in the work.
Had no problems with my stock 1984 Toyo 4x4 PU extra cab in the snowstorm of 1989’ish @Mary Jane. But of course it was a rust bucket! They are just very light weight trucks. Almost bought one again in Nov. but went Rubicon. Just so much cooler & more capable/unique. Loving it so far stock.
