Thanks Peter. Your videos show some good techniques I've never seen discussed before. I have to make a new hood for my project. I will try to make it without using an FSP. It's the way I learned, but I am willing to try different methods.

thanks for taking the time to create these videos Peter. they are full of very useful information. i have a question on where you put the weld seams on the front and rear fenders - the panels sitting on the buck appear to curve beyond the centre line of the panels. are you putting the weld seams more toward the inner side of the fender centre line or is this simply because the panels sitting on the buck need more trimming back to the centre line before welding?
Hi peter, I bought an English wheel and I'm starting to work it with 20 gauge Cold- roll. But I'm clueless at to what anvils to use to get a concave shape. Please help!
Now days you can scan a scale model then CNC cut all of the stations with the proper computer program and make the buck , but this particular buck was made 18 years ago by hand , it was made from photos' and information and drawings from Italy

@@sblack48 what you are thinking of is the US series which is 3003 here in OZ we can only get 5005 series . 5005 series It's a bit harder but if I need to worked more than usual I simply annealed it .

So, as a metal shaper, you have no issues telling other people their methods are garbage. So, you should have no problem with an honest critique yourself. You may understand the subject you are demonstrating but, you are not a good instructor. You make little sense. You may improve, but that is impossible for someone who knows everything already.
It's a free world, If that is your opinion, I am OK with that, I have no problem with a honest critique, BUT! I never have said that I know everything , I am still learning new things every day even after 50 years working the trade. As far as being a poor instructor.. well I am a Panel Beater by trade NOT a teacher and I try to do my best, I am sorry that it makes little sense to you .Thank you for taking the time to watch my video's.
@@Handbuilt1 Haven't you dismissed the methods of your peers completely? I recall comments in a locked thread asserting that FSP's are more useful used as kites. That is interesting since that method seems to be adopted by more and more people yet you dismiss it as "non traditional" therefore not "proper". Being new to the metalshaping community and learning the craft (not art), I have studied many individuals that have mastered this craft. The ones willing to learn serve as the best teachers. NOT the ones that pontificate any other valid method is beneath them and ridicule it to render peers less knowledgeable. Glad you are entering the open democracy of youtube. Perhaps you may be humbled. Edit: Feel free to delete this comment. If it remains, you have the humility to learn from everyone including your peers. Leave the comment public, it shows you are willing to learn as well as teach.

As far as the FSP I simply do not use that method because in my OPINION it does not give me the info I need , but if you are new at metalshaping and just learning, PLEASE USE WHICH METHOD YOU LIKE, OR ARE USED TO. One day when you are well experienced we will talk again and have a chat about the FSP and the traditional method
If you can’t or won’t watch and infer what he’s teaching that’s on you. Maybe find other videos that will spoon feed you? One of the most amazing elements of learning new things is how we learn more than than was shown or spoken of in the instructional content. This is the power of engaging our brains on a daily basis to teach our neurological self to create and utilize new neural pathways. Do your part in the process of this instruction like a Harvard engineering or medical student. You could learn a lot if he did not speak at all! So it’s totally weird and bizarre that you slam a master because of your unwillingness to work at learning.
He is critical of his peers that do better work than him. He is a negative person. He is not a great teacher either. Great metal shaper, but not a people person. Much better people to learn from on YT without the gigantic ego. @@fishhuntadventure

Depends on the job, on same jobs only one , on others up to 3/4 lower anvils are used

the weld must be away from the return , so the next panel will be welded away from the center line

Joe there are you tube clips on the usage of anvils, or you can purchase dvd's on the subject, there are a few out there.

what ga/thickness metal is that and what grade is it 5051 aluminium?
The thickness is 1.6 mm and the grade is 5005/H34
