My Dad was the Landlord of The Red Lion in Hampton. My Dad hired a coach/bus to take us all to the fight, The aisle of the bus was so stacked with crates of beer that you had to climb over the crates to get to your seat! I sat in the third row at The Albert Hall and watched Gypsy Johnny Frankham win the British Light Heavyweight Title. Johnny rode back with us on the bus .. I remember that his ears were swollen! I was a 17 year old Catholic school educated girl and that is still one of the best nights of my life!
My dad went to racing with John and he’s brother sammi heard the stories up in reading 😂😂 he was good mates with Norman smith lived in purley and he went to the derby with you after finnegan fight next day 👍🏻
Remember listening to Johns fight for light heavyweight title against Chris on the radio, brilliant excitement and great result.I think it might have been the next day John was interviewed on tv at the Derby ,he was a very good fighter in his day.
Did he live in Wokingham? I lived on Ashrdge rd,Wokingham. I remember my Dad said about his name but I didn't know what he was on about I was about 14 then.
My father in law boxed him three times in the 70s Keith drewett. I am trying to find footage of your fight that was shown on the BBC. Can anyone help. Keith drewett passed away in 2006 and I'd like to get this footage for my husband and our boys
