  • For many years now, I’m sharing my point of view on international tennis for tennismajors.com. Now I’m happy to share also this analysis with you on my CZcams channel.
Today, I’m talking about Novak Djokovic and his incredible season on the ATP Tour. 2023 was one of the best in Novak Djokovic’s career, up there with the level of the Serb’s record-breaking 2015 season.
He won three of the four majors this year, reaching all four finals, and finished the year as the No 1 for a record-extending eighth time in his career. I feel that the only debate people can have now is “who is my favourite player”. Who is the best? No more debate, it’s Novak Djokovic.

I'm a RF fan through and through and I'd honestly would say his biggest reason for his success in 2017 is the absence of Novak Djokovic. Novak did a walkabout for about 18 months partly due to surgery I think and doing some soul-searching after finally winning the FO in the prior year. But honestly, the stats don't lie - he is without a doubt the greatest to have played. I still love RF due to his style, grace and improv skills which is an extension of his exquisite talent, feel for the ball, the game and a seemingly endless set of shots at his disposal to win a point. He's an absolute joy to watch over and over again. However, at the end of the day, tennis is about winning and losing, not about style.

I'm a diehard RF fan, and he will forever be my favorite player, but the time has finally come for me admit that Novak is the GOAT. The numbers don't lie: most weeks at #1, most grand slams, most masters series titles, and a h2h winning record against RF and Rafa, who I also love. I never hated Nole as a player, but certainly never rooted for him against RF or Rafa. It's quite remarkable what the guy is doing at his age. The slight drop (and I mean very slight) in his game is hardly noticeable, which is quite insane for a nearly 37-year-old pro tennis player. There are just two things remaining for him to accomplish: Olympic medal and most career titles.

No disrespect intended, but the goat debate was pretty much over even before this season started. Despite the commonly held view, a player's greatness should not be determined by his Grand Slam count alone. CONSISTENCY throughout the year is what wins Masters 1000 events, the World No. 1 position, the ATP Tour Finals...as well as the Grand Slams, of course. All 2023 has done is three things: it's cemented Novak's legacy, underlined his greatness, and shown the world that, at age 36, this tennis player verges on the super human. After the USO he lost 4 matches because of the lingering back injury. First he retired against DelPo in the Davis Cup, then lost to Nishikori at the Swiss indoors and lost to David Ferrer and TIPSAREVIC at the ATP Finals. Nobody from the Big 4. Without the injury he might have finished with only 2 matches lost for the year.

No wonder! He’s from Serbia! Very healthy, raised up on extremely healthy food just like everyone else in Serbia! That is the first cause and reason! Do not forget that Novak is eating quite a different food than other tennis players! So, no wonder! Almost the entire population in Serbia is very healthy! You should see me, soon to be 70 ( on 16th of January ) I look much, much younger than my age, and every time I am asked about my age people are looking at me in disbelief! I am slim, I am strong and I look 30 years younger! So, it’s all about Serbian food and genetics! We Serbians are having healthy seeds, healthy base that we’ve inherited from our ancestors and parents! If you are going to add to that one a strong good will, discipline, determination to achieve what you are planing and wanting the most, knowledge and Serbian pride and stubbornness you’re going to get Novak Djokovic the Iron Man! And yeah there’s one more thing about us Serbians if we’re hurt and treated in an extremely unjust and unfair way, and we’re not guilty of anything, if somebody is trying to stop us from achieving what we’re planning to earn, in an unfair way, ( and go back and recall what the USA tennis association and government did to Novak, then add the Australian government gesture by locking Novak down as if he was a criminal then that makes the picture about Novak even clearer! Never forget that we Serbians are stronger than destiny! You’re going to watch Novak playing and winning for a quite long time! When we’re doing it out of stubbornness we’re the “worst”!!! 😂🤣

Alright he's human such a discovery! 😂😂😂 that's the problem of big-3 people only analyse through passion or they hate Djokovic or love him and the analysis are inside those criteria, you may love or hate Djokovic that's not my or anyone's problem just let it out of analysis, it doesn't happen. Good to see a minimal reasonable analysis.

It's not ridiculous at all. You have tons of athletes who had even smaller injuries and after surgery they could never recover and get to the same level,
not because they were not healthy and physically good, but psychologically they hit a brick wall and never felt the same.
To average Joe who is not doing something at the highest possible level nothing matters, but to people at the highest level atoms matter.

Rearly objective and reasonable comment after we got used to some other experts comments that started claiming number of majors as the only criteria, after Novak set the records on masters titles, weeks as number one, big titles, got very close on majors at the same time etc. Suddenly all of that was not counted. Majors only. 🤔 Even Stefi Graff was found the one that is holding weeks number record and not Novak. 😮 Although for Federer before, it was sufficient to be recorder in male tennis as male and female records were not for comparison. When Novak took over at the end all that records, now we hear it is not about records any more (even majors are not that important 😮) but about how much you are liked by English grannies. 😅

I slightly disagree. Novak is not as fit, and his "lockdown game" has dropped just a tad. He has moments where he recreates this but it's not quite the same. That's why I don't like him getting into extended rallies with Medvedev. Whereas I think a 2011 or 2015 djokovic would smoke Medvedev in long rallies. HOWEVER, I do believe he has expanded his skills. The man can literally turn on a GOAT forehand at will. His mental/clutchness is better, his serving is better, his volleying is better. Overall, he is more complete, which is crazy. But it would be silly to say that all aspects of his game are as good. He definitely is slightly less faster, durable and athletic. But hey, I'm comparing Novak to former Novak. It's the only fair comparison for him at this point.
