  • Five days ago I received my Wyze Cam V3 Pro and I've been testing it in every conceivable situation. From indoors, outdoors, low light, bright rooms, night and day, the V3 Pro has been impressive to say the least. In this video I'm putting the Wyze V2, V3, and V3 Pro cameras through their paces.

    Very well done review. However the Pro's shortcomings do seem to be a bit sugarcoated, such as giving the Pro higher rating for night vision despite the FAR worse and widely reported gaping blackholes of area with no visibility where the original V3 can see well. Theres just no excuse for that higher night vision rating without feeling that the sponsoring of the video introduced some bias. When Wyze improved this at a later point via firmware, at that point you can go back and make an update, but 9 out of 10 for completely black regions of yard that didn't affect v3 is inexcusable.
    ALSO, while not specific to the hardware, free cloud camera backup has always been such a HUGE feature of Wyze cameras since day one, to not mention the major drawback that Pro no longer includes any free back up, while the V3 does, again feels like it was not even mentioned to appease the sponsor, which takes away quite a bit from your otherwise excellent review style.

      Valid points. Wyze has released a firmware fix for the darkness of videos already. And yes, the lack of free cam plus lite was unexpected - though I have cam plus unlimited I pay for separately so I didn’t notice 👍

      Correct they released a firmware update Dec 12 that improved night visibility somewhat, however that was not the case at the time of review a month prior (Nov 9), so that is what I was speaking to. Regardless, thanks for responding and I'll look forward to your future reviews.

    Wow! What a professional review with all those awesome tests about the video quality and comparisons! I loved that you zoomed in with a lot of the image examples so we could tell the different better and see how much better the V3Pro in some ways. In can sometimes be hard to tell a big difference when everything is zoomed out, but you can definitely tell a lot more clearly when you zoomed in! Thanks for all your hard work! You did a great job. This is the best V3Pro review and testing I've seen so far.

    Seems a bit sugar coated but glad you pointed out the compression which would be great to have the ability to turn off or reduce. The plug has been changed to a place where it forces you to use a proprietary cable and have less water resistance, they pulled rtsp in a firmware update and actively pay devs to patch mods from working rather than improving the software, and remove free cloud video notifications from the ‘pro’ model. Hopefully if enough people address it they may iron things out in software and firmware and change the cable back for the v4 for better weather resistance. Otherwise nice vid

    A newcomer to your channel, and I want to add my voice to those who thank you for a superb review of the V3 Pro. There's just one supposed feature of the V3 Pro that I don't think you specifically mentioned, and I was wondering if you could confirm it? Because person detection is built into the firmware of the Pro, Wyze states that it's not necessary to upload video to the cloud. My question: does this mean that if one is interested solely in person detection (vis a vis vehicle, pet detection), that it would not be necessary to purchase a subscription to Wyze's Cam Plus cloud service? I just purchased a Cam V3 (not knowing of the release of the Pro model) strictly to monitor when people walked up to our front entrance. I was disappointed to learn that in order to enable person detection, one had to subscribe to the Cam Plus service. Also disappointed to learn that Wyze no longer offers Cam Plus Lite to new Cam V3 purchasers (only works for legacy owners). Thus I'd be very interested in the V3 Pro if it obviated the need for a recurring annual subscriptions. By the way, other than this one issue, I am very happy with the Cam V3. For me it has worked quite reliably in the short time I've had it.

  • @M22Research
    @M22Research Pƙed rokem

    A question I have not been able to get answered - can the internal spot light be set to limited hours, say from midnight to 6 am? (We have a lot of walkers and runners along the side of our home and it would get irritating to have it triggered constantly from dusk to midnight.)
    Perhaps the ambient photoelectric low lumen lights on our garage would be sufficient for good image quality - to skip the spot light altogether - however we had the catalytic converters stolen off two cars parked in our driveway, during a rain storm, with those garage lights on, so the active spot might be a deterrent.
    Thanks for the excellent review. We’ve been running V2 and V3 cameras from inside pointed outside for several years and your ratings “feel” about right for them in the real world, lending good credibility to your V3 Pro assessment.

    I just had a V3 that was bought during its initial launch. Get water inside through the SD card slot because I have to mount it under an eave. When it dried out, One of the inner lenses was cracked or coating was cracked..
    I'm curious if a new V3 still gives you the app choices to get the cloud thumbnails. There was a deal that you could pay what you wanted if you wanted those kind of thumbnail alerts which I heard you do not get with the newer cams unless you pay. So my question is did that feature go away with new v3?

    Actually got a first look at the Wyzecam V3 Pro on their site. Revolutionary it's not, and not even impressive. The V1 was impressive, minus the security issues that Wyze didn't tell anyone about. The V2 was really good for the price but ultimately has software issues, which carried over to the V3 and most likely also with the V3 Pro. This new camera 2K resolution is sub par for the huge price increase. One thing you stated that was incorrect about the V3 camera, it does not have colorless IR lights. But they basically have two settings where they can be dimmed, this camera however does not have colorless IR LED's. My biggest complaint with Wyze cameras is that they frequently go offline or freeze and have to be rebooted, which requires being unplugged and then plugged back in, something you can't do when away from home. The solution is to use a smart plug, but that's an added cost. Wyze would build this feature into their camera's. Oh, and the AI really sucks. It either completely mislabels things or doesn't label them at all. The only thing it's consistent with it parked vehicles.

      If you don’t have another better to offer, just coming in and calling something crap isn’t very helpful.

    • @Resist4
      @Resist4 Pƙed rokem

      @@TheNetGuy Yes, it is helpful. There doesn't have to be an alternative product to say it is crap, when it is crap. Wyze used to make good camera's but not anymore. They are lazy with the software and don't fix issues. On a daily basis my camera video gets stuck loading and I have to exit out of that page and come back it just to see the video. The AI never gets it right. The camera's go offline frequently and you can't reboot them when they freeze, via the app, you have to unplug it and plug it back in, which is kind of hard to do when you are not home and on vacation. Every single of Wyze products now either has a design flaw or software issue. And many their products are falsely advertised, the pictures are wrong and/or the products don't perform the way they're supposed to.

    They don't let use the Cam Plus Lite subscription with the Pro. We spend more money buying it and we will have to spend even more money with the subscription.

    So far I only have one of the 5 up. czcams.com/users/postUgkxOXxsTZ3ptV_Pk0fFl8bNZvVqeoqBQFwe My son ran out of time, with motion detector etc. I have it over my garage door. It works great. Have seen a couple of cats, my dogs, when I am out front. And had a bee buzzing around right in front of it. It works very well. It even shows the neighbour's driveway, but only shows movement just past my own, which is very long. I highly recommend them.

    Have used Wyze cams for 4 years. There was a time this was a good camera. No longer. Today's Wyze Cam 3 and 3 Pro have problems - they don't stay connected, have unreliable notifications, constant firmware update bugs that brick the cameras, just to name a few. Looks like they have sold all of their old V3 cams to Roku for Roku Home. LOL. Go to The App Store and read the reviews. Go to the Wyze Forums and read those, too, before you buy.
    I have moved on.
