In this video I unbox and review the (kind of)new Wyze Solar Panel. Yes, this solar panel is an actual Wyze product. These panels were made to support the Wyze Cam Outdoor cameras to recharge the battery during sunny days.
The solar panels are very good looking and much smaller than I was assuming they'd be. I am also surprised by the ability to recharge the camera battery. I was assuming they'd be able to charge a little each day thereby extending the amount of time between each 'take down and full recharge' cycle. So far it seems that there should never be a need to remove the camera to recharge as these panels produce plenty of power to keep the cameras fully charged all the time (as long as you have very sunny days).
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase so far. Of course, only time will tell how well these panels hold up to the elements and if they can keep producing the same amount of power consistently but for now I'm liking the panels a lot.

This panel can put out close to 100 watts czcams.com/users/postUgkxOqI2yqX0XVrhR2BMJciTWrHJpG8FhJyg when positioned in the appropriate southernly direction, tilted to the optimal angle for your latitude/date, and connected to a higher capacity device than a 500. The built in kickstand angle is a fixed at 50 degrees. Up to 20% more power can be output by selecting the actual date and latitude optimal angle.The 500 will only input 3.5A maximum at 18 volts for 63 watts. Some of the excess power from the panel can be fed into a USB battery bank, charged directly from the panel while also charging a 500. This will allow you to harvest as much as 63 + 15 = 78 watts.If this panel is used to charge a larger device, such as the power station, then its full output potential can be realized.
I got the outdoor kit and I think Im getting this solar panel....charging the batteries is not a big deal, but having recharging by the sun during the day is a great thing....good review...!!!!
Great video.....going to be moving into a new house soon and one of these with the outdoor V2 cam should work well for keeping an eye on our cars in the driveway!

The solar panel is great!! I do feel that the battery already on the camera last forever on mine. I only charge once every 5-6months. Not a big deal for me. But not doing it all is a win.
We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version czcams.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.

Have the Cam V3 why will this not work. Because isnt the panel a source or power. If not able to work do you have any suggestions
can you rely fully on the solar without any batteries? and have you had any issues in the past couple months?
It would be interesting to see how well they keep it charged in the winter, particularly the one that only gets afternoon sun. I wonder if you will have to adjust the tilt to accommodate the lower angle of the sun in winter.

it would be nice if the Solar Panel manufacturer installed a Jack on the Panel, that way you could plug in a shorter cord. A longer cord means a drop in amperage vs a shorter cord. I wonder if other small solar panels would fit it, or IF you could daisy chain them together.

Hm, I started mine charging from 16% and it went up yo 67% but now it's stuck around 57% and had not gone up. Yesterday had a full day of sun too and it gets the sun all day. Now I can't move it to follow it but I don't get why the first day worked so well and then after that it's not charging it much at all. I even cut back on battery using features..even shut off the camera

Solar only charges batteries… Only the Outdoor Cams with the built in battery can utilize this (or any other) solar panel to top off the battery. Although, if you wanted to find a way to create a waterproof outdoor battery supply to run a V3 off of, then you might just be able to use Wyze’s solar panel to charge it. But, it’s not a Wyze “authorized” use for this panel. ;)
What models is that camera and does it come with the battery or does the solar panel come with the battery?

I have 2 Outdoor v2. One mounted in a tree. The solar panel gets very little direct sun light since leaves are in the way
Yet, it maintains 99% battery power. My other V2 is mounted over the front door. Gets a good 5 hours of sunlight. Yet can't get the new v2 cams battery to a reasonable level of charge. 16% at 10am. To only 25% at 5pm. It coukd be a bad solar panel or a bad V2. The V2's rip through power much faster than the V1s. I'll swap the cameras to determine if it's the camera ir the panel

@@PasoFinoHorseOwner yes but it's not like the V3s.. . You actually have to program it for a certain time to record and if you don't have it hooked up to some kind of power you will drain the battery real quick.
@@PasoFinoHorseOwner it's more of a pain in the ass then anything you have to do a scheduled recording and then when it's done you have to download it and most of the time it doesn't work I would much rather run an extension cord and put a V3 camera in that spot.

I have 2 as well and I would think theyre worth the price if they end up lasting. Unfortunately one of my outdoor cams stopped working after a week or so of connecting it to the solar panel. Wyze did replace the cam so Im now hoping it was just a coincidence.
I am worried that the software allows to keep charging all the way up to 100%. I saw in the wyze forums that keeping the battery topped off could eventually degrade its life.

My ring battery has been topped off by a solar panel for 3 or 4 years and we haven’t had any problems yet

My firmware is up to date and mine still will not recognize the panel
I liked mine enough that I got a second one for another OutDoorCam, as I test I plugged it into a camera that was about 4% it took about a week to bring the camera to 100%.
Make sure your solar panel is correctly positioned to get maximum direct sun exposure in the middle of the day. If the panel is getting sun at an angle it’s not as efficient. Obviously it’s a stationary panel but if you can position it so the sun is at the most straight angle possible in the middle of the day.
My Wyze outdoor cams are a big disappointment. I have 12 cameras that are still working and 4 more that have various issues especially failing batteries after a year or even less. I have one on a solar panel and it does work OK. Some are version 1 and some version 2, the fail rate for each version is about the same. From my experience any camera that gets a lot of action and you have to recharge frequently will fail within 2 years. The new Outdoor cam pro is not impressive either. The only good thing is the replaceable battery, that is a plus. If you buy an extra battery.
