Neighbor Asks To Hold Baby, Then Father Takes Close Look At Photo And Reveals Truth
Far too many kids are forced to grow up with a parent.
More often than not this is something we carry with us for the rest of our life. After all, our parents are the single most influential and strong forces in forming us to the adults we finally become.
This story is an inspirational piece that show us that being a parent doesn’t have anything to do with blood.
From the time Cody was a child, he knew he wanted to be a father. With no solid father figure of his own, it looked difficult finding his way to fatherhood. Then, a man named Mr Chip stepped in.
Cody didn’t speak much about his relationship with Mr. Chip for decades until a photo of the loving man and his baby boy went viral. Then, Cody decided to speak up and share why the photo was so important.
So he took to Facebook and wrote:
So a lot of people like this picture. So I wanted to take a minute to tell the story. Milton West was my childhood next door neighbor. I knew him as Mr. Chip. He retired from DOW chemical as an operator. He has always been there for me since I was two years old. Growing up without a father was always difficult for me. But the good lord surrounded me with great men, Mr.Chip was one of them. He constantly preached the value of an education, taught me how to take care of a yard, he taught me to see people for who they are not what they look like, he taught me how to treat my mother like a saint and many other life lessons. His contributions to me becoming a good son ,man and father were huge.
I am forever grateful for God putting him in my life.
So this past May my wife and I had a little boy named Bob Wayne Shugart. When Mr. Chip and his wife Shirley saw him they fell in love with him. They babysit him sometimes and we go and visit when we can. The last time we were over there Mr. Chip said he wants to be called “POP”. He says that’s his grandson. So we had to come up with a name for his wife. We decided on Lolli!!!!
So we tell Bob Wayne we are going to see Lolli Pop!!! I’m grateful that Lolli and Pop will be apart of my sons life. If he learns half the things from Mr . Chip as I did he will become a great son, man and father.
Everyday I read something negative and how race relations are worse than ever. I disagree and I hope this is a positive loving message to many people. This is just one story in little ol Victoria , Texas. I m sure there are millions of similar stories across the United States.
Since posting it again, the image has gone viral with hundreds of thousands sharing his story - and media all over the world reporting about it.
And it’s easy to see why - please help sharing this amazing story so everyone get a chance to be moved by this wonderful family!

Thanks for this wonderful story about love between adult human beings and children! My husband was a career Army Officer and after retirement, a career business executive. As a result, our four sons and I moved around America and Europe a lot! Fortunately, there were many wonderful people who willingly stepped up to ask if they could be “grandparents” for our boys. I believe that was the best part of traveling as we became very involved with many, many loving “grandparents” for life!

That is your belief, and it has nothing to do with the rest of us who do believe in our Creator. What influences are you and other atheists exerting? Actually, no one here seems to care. Try returning that same favor! People are free in this country to believe what they want and practice their spiritual beliefs or not! It's as simple as that. People are attempting to come together to enjoy an inspiring story at a time when all we hear and see is negativity about race in this country and here you are attempting to drown it out because others don't share your ideology! Actually you sound miserable. But we will all continue to enjoy this positive story and you can be miserable alone!

Thank you for sharing this. I never have understood the abject Hatred some people have for different races. If one person does something truly heinous to you, blame that person, not the whole race. I didn't realize I was brought up to not see color until my farther asked me if I made any new friends in the new school I was going to(age 6). I was So excited about it and told him yes, her name was Patty! He asked if she was black or white. I couldn't tell him. He was actually shocked. Mom said she was proud. It's those types of things that make it either hard or easy to love all people. I've been blessed and only had few encounters with outright racism. It's So ugly and just so people know it is taught, just like hatred and fear. We are not born knowing how to do that.. People put that poison in ther children. Just think what a wonderful world we would have without it.

This is an awesome story!!! Blood doesn't make a mother, father, grandparent or sibling. Ask any adopted child.
    It's what you do to raise a child. I come from a blended family where I have 3 Dad's & 2 mothers.
My parents split when I was 1yr old but I saw my Father every weekend & he is my bff. My mother re-married on my 2nd birthday and David became my Dad and helped raise me. Unfortunately I He died right b4 their 10th anniv (and my 12 bday.) Today 35yrs later David's death is still hard at times because I love & miss him so. For me there is no difference between my Father and my Dad. I love them equally When I was young I always dreamed of my Father (Robert) and Dad (David) walking me down the aisle, to give me away at my wedding. Yes both ~ one on each arm. Just one problem with that, David was deceased. After David's death My mom found love again & married when I was a senior in High School. Bill became a parent and great friend. Jump ahead to my engagement and the planning of my wedding. I was very sad one of my biggest dreams would not come true. It was my mother who made the following suggestion and I was embarrassed I hadn't thought of it first. She said I could still have my Father and my "other" dad, William, walk me down the aisle. I was so happy I did that. All 4 of my parents answered when the Pastor asked "who gives this woman away..."
My Father too remarried and I love my "step" mother. I have 8 siblings because of the situation and happy to have every single one of them. I even have a lil brother 13yrs younger than me but was born on my birthday. I call him my twin. No one is "step" or "half," just a parent, brother or sister. This story of Mr. Chip warms my heart.j

When I was quite young back in Texas, my daddy had to undergo spinal surgery & back then in the late1940's that meant a body cast. My mother had to go to work & there was a young black woman working for my grandmother name Palina & she came to work for my parents to take care of the four of us children. She was firm & loving & taught me so many things about life & what was & was not important. We had been told by mother that if she had to spank us for disobeying, then we would be punished again when she got home! Palina never had to spank one of us. I am now 80 & she has gone home to be with the Lord long ago, but I can never forget the love & the things that she instilled in me. She loved each & everyone of us as if we were her own. This story brought to mind all of the values that I had learned from her & how blessed I was to have her in my life! Thank you so much for sharing this story.

My parents wanted to raise my sister and I without the idea that other races were any different. In fact by the time I even heard the term "race" as something other than a speed contest, the entire concept was absurd.
The idea that blacks are any different than whites aside for complexion is just bizarre.

So, because where you live this is true, you think it is universal? Besides, are you SURE there is no bias there?

    • @erictaylor5462
      @erictaylor5462 Před 6 lety +1

No, I said there is no difference between black people and whites. You said I was wrong, then gave an invalid reason why. I just pointed out that your reason was wrong. You say you claim your bias, but as you don't adjust your world view to account for it, has it really been claimed?

Greatest man I have ever met is Mr. Shepherd. Gentle, loving, a good man of God. I am blessed to have known him. He is a black man who grew up in a house with dirt floors. God made him into a man of God. It is like God wanted me to know what a real man is.

At my first apartment. This was mostly a black neighborhood with some older white people here and there but my neighbor on one side was an older white lady and everyone in the neighborhood called her mama Sellers (her last name). She stands out to me because she just had tons of kids in her yard, all the time. It looked like recess all the way until night. She cooked, she baby sat and always just sat on the porch telling stories to everyone. She always had a lot of help to. A lot of the moms would go over and help her cook and clean.
I later found out that her husband had been a high ranking officer in the military (im pretty sure he was navy) and they owned several utility companies (they were loaded). They had a big house, burbs, two kids, all that.. Anyways she ended up starting a women's shelter down the street from the neighborhood where I met her and worked it herself for years. After her husband died she moved into that apartment, sold everything and started two more shelters. That was the first person I ever met that truly loved everyone.

    A lovely posting.
I wish the narrator was a real man, speaking the sentences and paragraphs correctly.
This posting doesn't deserve a computer reading in a female voice.
    Please amend. Thank you!

I had a similar experience as a small white child from a very Dysfunctional Family I was starting down the wrong road I was sent to Yvonne Davis our guidance counselor I was in the 7th grade pissed off at the world big chip on my shoulder it was 1971 first thing I did when I walked in her room was fire up a cigarette thought that would get a reaction she talked calmly and respectfully to me about not everyone gets a fair Shake for a great childhood but your life can be as beautiful as you want it to be no matter your start at that point I was ashamed of lighting the cigarette she never said a word about it just pushed a small dish towards me or I butted out that cigarette and continue to listen to her we talked for several hours I came away from her office with a whole different outlook on life she was a very beautiful light skinned black lady I didn't realize her age when I went back to see her several years later I found out she had passed away it broke my heart so every now and then I look up to heaven and I say thank you to Yvonne Davis for making such a difference in my life I raised 2 well-adjusted beautiful children and now have four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren all well-adjusted wonderful people I'd like to thank her and let her know I think about her often
