    One of the many incredible things about Yuzuru's hydroblades is that each one is different- every program that has one, it is unique to the program- upper body, arm movements, how close he is to the ice, everything. Requiem is one of my favorite's of his hydroblades

      @@Salmiyaguy1Yuzu is way more than “ok”. He makes the hydro blade a seemingly effortless part of the choreography, rather than some who included it to just show they can. It’s like he expresses the music out of his body. He does it with joy and a bit of attitude. Yet humble, and not just token support for those in need of joy in disasters. He’s Style plus. No wonder he’s world No 1. Don’t get that for nothing.

    Oooh, i think i know what makes hanyu different, it is how he enter that move, unlike other that directly touch the ice since beginning, hanyu started by only one hand then after a few seconds the other hand follows. When only one hand touching the ice, it was very beautiful and somehow making that move looks like a kung fu stance. He also looks very confident, sometimes he even just give it and let his shoulder to be his axis.

    • @ellelou7212
      @ellelou7212 Před 2 lety +4

      @@josephp8809 Yes, at 4:40 it was clearly a mistake, and indeed I'm surprised it was used as example. I even kinda chuckled when watching it live, because if he had been contended with just keeping his position it wouldn't have happened, but he had to "pretend" he was kissing the ice instead XD
      but since in other instances he could do the kissing-the-ice move without stumbling, I wouldn't use a mistake out of at least a dozen executions of this variation to say he has less control, especially since Dimitra too wasn't 100% secure on the examples showed above.
      One has also to consider edge depth, how long the hydroblade lasts, if there are variations during the move that can shift weight hence require to adjust one's balance accordingly.
      I had never seen Dimitra so I agree that hers looks great, though it looks to me that edge is less deep than both Yuzuru and Keegan (who has a very low and fast one). Comparing the 3 of them, not surpising that the deepest edge are achieved on the two-handed types by both Yuzuru and Keegan, since there's an additional point of balance to the skater.
      I especially love Yuzuru's signaature one-handed one because aestethics, and it also provides more variations in terms of what the other hand can do. It also has a lot of flow on the exit too, to the point that it can naturally transition into the next move (indeed he often starts lifting the only supporting hand while still hydroblading).
      in my book, one-handed hydros always get a plus compared to the two-handed type because of the additional difficulty of one less contact point with the ice.
      I'm not a particular fan of the aestethics of the one-handed type where the shoulder or the supporting arm actually grazes the ice, like Keegan's and a couple of Yuzuru's, and I also suspect that the shoulder might actully end touching the ice...so it might provide additional balance and make the move slightly less hard than the real one-handed hydroblades. Dimitra's clearly one-handed low hydro is really impressive in this sense, she's really supporting her weight on one hand only. Though I admire the core strenght Yuzuur and Keegan have to get up with ease from that position. Also, whoa at how they don't end with their face on the ice!
      There are actually more positions singles skaters can achieve than what's showed in this vid, e.g. Shae-Lynn in her solo iceshow career has showed off plenty, and Akiko Suzuki had an hydro of the backwards outside type, too (no hands). But while impressive they usually look ugly to me XD (though Akiko's looked very cool in her Kill Bill program!)
      Teams' hydroblades are amazing because they have to rely on teamwork for it to be successful, so it's an additional layer of difficulty, but they have a lot more freedom exactly because of that too (since they can find balance creating a broader variety of positions and shapes). Bourne/Kraatz here are of course iconic

    Hydroblading requires ability to bend the skating knee to the extreme and skating backwards on the deep inside edge. It also takes great core and leg strength as well as flexibility to get down, hold the position, and get up. Yuzuru can do the whole thing even without any hand on the ice, and look how straight his back is. His hydroblades could be elegant, vulnerable, and/or powerful. It's one of his signature moves.
