Feeling triggered? Me too. I mean, how could Mark Knopfler get a 6/10? WTF! 0:01
Triggered? No. More like "Disappointed that such a good guitar player and teacher decided to rate people he know almost nothing about, instead of skipping them, or refusing to rate"
BTW Tyler, Mark is seriously a fantastic player and You should definitely check his other songs.
It's all part of his grand master plan to get more views and subs... who would watch an objective, reasonable, and fair video rating guitarists what their actually worth? These legends have already written their names in the history books and don't need a random CZcams video ranking them out of 10.
Music is Win man i was shocked and was about to comment about that rating just the moment u rated but that was ur list but man u must listen to one of the most underrated god of guitar...

You’re the best Captain, hats off to you

You are in the same step with John frusciante!!!
And his playing had improved massively recently!
I have the same guitar in your banner

I know I'm late to this video but...
WHAT ABOUT MARTY SCHWARTZ
Yesssss
4/10
Where’s Lil Wayne?
Bernardo Santos 9:16
Oh dear god no, not him!!! Everybody but him
Mark Knopfler is the most underrated guitarist out there in my opinion, there is a story out there that he once played through David Gilmour's entire rig and still managed to sound exactly like himself. So as far as not being recognisable, I'd say he has one of the most recognisable tones out there!
Mark Knoffler: 6/10
Tom Morello: 50/10
Wow
ANKIT AMAR KASHYAP mark knopfler could outplay Tom morello Any Day!!
Wow, imagine this being a subjective video...
@@mvhax2ftw352 EXACTLY.
@@an_38kitkashyap Tom Morello might be more technically advanced, but when it comes to playing "Music", where the persons playing has to catch someones attention, and can feel the playing, Mark Knopfler might be the best guitarist ever. The thing about Mark Knopfler is, that he even himself says hes not really that good, thats why i like him. He is very humble. Try and watch the Monteleone guitars video with Mark Knopfler.
@@mvhax2ftw352 lol, it's way more harder to play Mark's music than Tom's. That "wow" sign is a symbol of shock for me. Don't know how you got that wrong. No-one in the comments did. 😂

Where is Jimi Hendrix?
Sonit Rana if
He shuld of atleast looked up Del Riego. That guys an 8 atleast
czarek czernecki Hendrix defies mere mortal ranking.
Ouch hitting Knopfler with a 6? You need to listen to more of his stuff guys a legend
Buckethead is a 10. I witnessed him live and he has a very unique ability to absolutely put you into a trance, I’ve never felt the same listening to any other guitarist and I’ve seen many
David Gilmour gets my vote for an eleven.
Jimmy Page is 100/10 in my honest opinion
David Gilmore number 1
Trying to figure out how Morello scored higher... I just cannot into even.
@@diego2112gaming morello is awesome
"There is no pain you are receding.."
Mark knopfler is literally the best rhythm guitar player by your definition dude. Its so sad that noone recognizes the pure brilliance of his playing. He sings and plays really awesome too. Hes the most humble yet best guitar player
David Gilmour is a 10/10. His solos and feel are insane. And he has memorable solos like Comfortably Numb, Time, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Have A Cigar, and Another Brick in The Wall Part 2 and he has very memorable riffs like Money, Wish You Were Here, Run Like Hell, and Another Brick In The Part 2.
You're bloody right my friend. I clicked on this video for Gilmour. He's an 11/10. I started playing because of him man
Yeah Comfortably Numb and Time are probably my favorite solos ever and I get chills every time I hear them. IMO songwriting is a huge part of what makes a great guitarist because in the end the song and how it sounds is what it's all about. I could careless how hard a part is or fast it is if it doesn't sound great. Some might say a Gilmour solo isn't that hard to play but to write a solo like that or to play it so that it sounds the way he played is really hard. He also had his own unique sound and tone. Pink Floyd had such an original sound and so many great songs.
For me Tom Morello is a 10 too. He's right up there with Hendrix as far pushing the boundaries of what is possible with the guitar. He has some amazing catchy and heavy riffs too. What he did with RATM, Audioslave, and his solo stuff show how versatile he is as well.
I think for the greatest guitarist they have the highest marks in being original, innovative, and just creating sounds we've never heard that can blow your mind even after hearing it 500 times.
Ya I love shreds etc..but listen to live in Pompeii..wow!!! 10 out of 10.. animals, etc
Just the solo live section of comfortable numb has more views than songs lol
He’s boring
for everyone complaining, this is based on his opinion
even if mark knopfler is just a 6 😠
Petrucci's rating should've been 11/8
That's a great comment
13/8
why out of 8? he's so good he lowers the scale for everyone else? pull me under wooo
Matt B it's a time signature reference dude
or 19/16
Feel vs tech. I don't care. If it sounds good it is good.
THANK YOU. JUST...
THANK YOU
E.g.
Muse - Animals: All the guitar solos are just complete feel. No unnecessary digitech whammy pedals, no crazy fuzz, just really smooth guitar playing recorded on a strat etc.
Muse - Fury: really crazy digitech whammy and big muff riff recorded on a seven string manson guitar + that really heavy RATM influenced middle eight.
Both absolutely amazing songs, both approached using two completely different guitar mentalities.
"If it sounds good it is good" I like this way of thinking
THANK YOU. JUST...
THANK YOU
This statement misses the point of the video. Yes, at the end of the day if it sounds good, it is good. But it's great to break down these musicians and see why they have such an impact on us, and tech. can play a pivotal role in some of the guitar heroes we revere. Technicality is not about how fast/perfectly you can play, rather it's about the capability of fully expressing yourself on your instrument, regardless of "the right way vs. the wrong way to play" (ex: Jimmy Page's technique is sloppy but that's part of his unique sound on the guitar).
Please listen to Dire Straits again. Their complete discography is a flawless, glory showcase of the guitar. Not a single lame song. Also some stuff of Knopflers solo career is definetly worth checking out.
Sultans of Swing (Live at Alchemy) , Tunnel of Love and Telegraph Road (both studio version) are my "trinity" of the guitar, one of the main reasons I picked up the guitar.
Eh I dunno Les Boys is pretty awful, but apart from that I like them all.
Esoterick The fact that it ends the album really irks me. Could’ve been one of the songs from the A side.
eulogy? the guitar's not dead yet!
@@bobtheyob Agreed, 'Les Boys' is an awful song for the Straits, but still good on a larger scale. I don't like "How Long" so much aswell. These songs should've been B-Sides probably and Walk of Life should've been put on the ExtendedanceEP. But there haven't been too many guitar driven bands with such a consequent high quality outcome as the Dire Straits. Caution, my next sentence is very subjective. Stones/Beatles made a lot of filler tracks, while Knopfler always got to the core (on a songwriter level). What's your favourite Knopfler solo song? I have many, for many different situations. 'Vic and Ray' to fall asleep, 'Sailing to Philadelphia' for landscaping, 'Privateering' for lonesome autumn days, 'Boom Like That' for driving Autobahn, but my overall go to Knopfler song, would be 'Monteleone' the song he wrote for his Luthier. I love the mood of it, very special. I can picture his workshop and his routines so well. Knopfler is just an amazing writer.
Jerry Cantrell is a super underrated guitar. His song writing alone makes him one the best of all time. But what really sets him apart, his tone. He has perhaps the most tasteful tone of all the 90s Seattle bands.
I agree. He might not be your average "guitar hero", but I've rarelly heard a songwriter as good as him
@Brent Peterson ikr
The best grunge guitarist.

Leathurkatt Ur a big noob.....
He did David Gilmour dirty. Lol. Deserves more of a 15/10 but to each his own. Nice vid.
@B Dub How hard it is for you to accept that people have different tastes and preferences. If it doesn't match with you you automatically judged him and said he hasn't listened to his stuff.I have literally listened to most of pink Floyd's albums and love them but still I prefer bands like dream theater ,petrucci and I think petrucci is a much better player but that's just a personal opinion.Come on man ,how hard it is to accept and appreciate different opinions.
I can understand why nobody said Adam Jones but i'm really surprised that nobody said Jimi Hendrix or Eric Clapton.

@@joshuahuf9747 just because he makes dumb faces as a joke doesn't mean he's not funny or not a good guitar player. It is comedy, just not your kinda comedy. Jim Root definitely deserved way more than a 4 :/
I'm a huge Jim Root fan, I'm even thinking about getting one of his signature Tele.
But compared to the likes of Petrucci and Satriani.
Damn.
Sorry but mick is better guitarist
His Tele is one of two signature guitars I’ve played that actually sound something like the actual guitar it’s based on.
@@bassnoob8214 Imo i think jim is slightly a better lead player of maybe i just like his like his leads but mick rythms are like a fucking tank just heavy and awesome
I think jim root deserved at least a 6
Mark Knopfler a 6/10?! I know this is an opinion video but.......please listen to more of his stuff.
Yeah I that was the only one that I felt a little offended by 😂
I'm sure he's listened to just about all of it
Also 7 for Angus young
Do you understand opinions ?People have different opinions. Why it is so hard for some people to accept that everyone will not like the same fucking thing.I would rate mark a 4 out of 10 if I have to and I have listened to most of dire's albums.
I loved this video. I found a bunch of new guitarist that I have fallen in love with, and now need to now explore
were you drunk on that one, come on, mark is 11/10, period
idk which mark you are talking about but I agree 100%

J. Hetfield 8/10
Tony Iommi 8/10
Buckethead 7/10
Slash 7/10
John Frusciante 7/10
Mark Knopfler 6/10?
All less than Tom Morrello and Tosin Abasi?
Done
All of them deserve 10/10
DG BM and DD Deserve 11/10
Although thanks for mentioning John Mayer though.
Abasi technically is probably better then all of them bar buckethead. Technically only of course
The Dank Soviet yeah Tosin kills anyone here, but they’re all pretty iconic and uniquely talented
I can agree with Buckethead, but how the fuck does James Hetfield deserve a 10/10 ? The down-picking part is fine, the song-writing is fine, but his technicality is super limited compared to the others, all power-chords and open-string fills. Dude can't even shred and hardly knows any theory. I love Metallica, but placing him in the same league as the Petruccis, the Jason Beckers and the Paul Gilberts is just absolute madness.
Hetfield is fine at 8. I thought Morello would get 10.
@@awesome420ication Morello 10 ? Really ? Same level of skill and creativity as Steve Vai and John Petrucci ? No way.
I’d honestly put buckethead at number one bar maybe people like Jimi Hendrix who have undeniable legendary status. Buckethead does just about everything on guitar, he does emotional ballads, crazy shredding like no other, epic blues licks, brutal metal riffs, creative stuff that is just buckethead. To me he’s on another level when it comes to the guitar.
Agreed! His mastery on the guitar is on another level!!
Him and Guthrie Govam
Govan*
Prak Oh Yes! Guthrie Govan and Buckethead imo are the best guitarists of all time
Agree
david gilmour 8/10? TRIGGERED
Rubbing you opinion on others faces? Not triggered cause I'm a little more mature.
He meant to flip the 8, to get an infinity
I agree with the rating. But it's like he said, it's his opinion. Why are people getting triggered about an opinion or topic that's subjective to the individual. I think Gilmour's melodic feel deserves a higher rating than focusing on virtuosos. Virtuosos are cool, but are not superior to those who have mastered simplistic playing and feel over technique. For this reason, while I aspire to be a virtuoso, I favour more simplistic and feel based playing.
To me I've learned that slow melodic playing is harder to master than speed, but for others it's different. In the end, he's right, rating guitarists is silly. But when we do, it's Solway opinion, not fact.
He's like 100/10
Fala Crow disagree over the virtuoso part mate, there are many virtuosos who have mastered all kinds of techniques. Not saying they are all like that, but there are unbelievable virtuosos. Listen to Andy James and see what I mean.
Can I just say that a six for Knopfler is an utter misrepresentation. I'm not the biggest fan of Dire Straits' music, but as a guitarist Knopfler is one of those rare guitar players where the music just seems to flow from his hands without thinking.
Mark Knopfler deserves better, I think. He’s got incredibly recognizable sound. I’ve never heard anyone sound like him. His tone is unique, his playing style is unique, and his general guitar voice is unique. Not to mention he’s just incredibly proficient from a technical standpoint. I’d say Gilmour over Knopfler simply for stylistic preferences, but if we’re talking technique and uniqueness, they ought to be closer in rating. Don’t wanna come off as angry or irritated-just my opinion, take it for what you will.
Buckethead is way beyond ones imagination can go ,he can play soulfully and yet shred anyone into bits
He should be a 50/10
AGREED - 7/10 for Buckethead?! Wow you low-balled that one. Wonder what MAB would get on this list 5/10?!
Buckethead > Steve vai
Someone who doesn’t agree listen to look up there or coupons by buckethead
DAVE MUSTAINE who's an awesome guitar player (way better than 8/10 Hetfield) and is a perfectionist that goes through highly skilled bandmates like hotcakes said, "BUCKETHEAD Is Probably Twice As Good A Guitar Player As Me And SLASH (7/10) Combined".
JIMMY PAGE 10/10? HE DIDNT SELL HIS SOUL TO SATAN FOR NOTHING 666/10

Lee anderton and John frusciante are ranked the same and both of them ranked higher than mark knopfler... I know it's opinion but c'mon man that's just crazy
George Sims Well, I think John totally deserves 7/10 if not even higher. But I agree with the rest..
John fucking Frusciante totally deserves that 7.

George Sims OH NO HOW DARE HE HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINON
+Krista Mehanikova frusciante 100% deserves a 7+ and lee could definitely get up in that range sure I agree with you there. But in my humble opinion, if frusciante is a 7, the captain deserve a 5/6 and knopfler deserves a 8/9. But hey, that's the beauty of opinions, we don't all have to think The same

Haha. Lee Anderton 7/10
Mark knopfler 6/10.

What a peanut
Accurate af😂
8/10 is pretty low for the writer of comfortably numb's solo
michaellundgren1 dogs for the win!
Gilmour is great but not as versatile as others, mostly relying on pentatonics and aeolian scale. In regard to taste I would give him a 10/10.
I loved echos honestly
Please tell me Comfortably Numb is not the only song you ve heard of Pink Floyd
Comfortably numb is overrated, there are many guitarists that are much better than David Gilmour in general, he is very memorable though
Mark Knopfler live performances were just awesome, the way he was playing a 5-minute version solo of Sultans of Swing or other songs.
His licks' phrases are unique to listen, especially for the last solo of his song "Tunnel of Love". Proof a solo can sound nice without playing it fast. Just by the sound of the guitar you know it's him.
This video is very encouraging! It proves anyone can play the guitar. It all depends on who you can get to listen to you.
I'm surprised nobody said Daron Malakian. He isn't "proficient" per se (or at least his so-far published records. A few days more and we'll find out), but he certainly has a memorable tone that you can really recognize.
Daron is probably one of my favorite guitarists
And the guitar in BYOB is like master of puppetsX1000, his picking and stamina is crazy
He sucks, bye
@@agustinares930 outstanding argument, I now believe he sucks because of your incredibly persuasive 3 words
Kevin Stuart nah byob isn’t harder than master of puppets get off the crack
You gave Matt Bellamy an 8/10. That's what matters.
Learning about his favorite guitarist and influences really gives us a great insight into how video game music is made.
Great reviews! Jim Root is actually a really proficient blues player and draws from some really interesting players of the past and present. Really underrated player!
Jerry Cantrell would definitely get a 9/10 from me because some of the lesser known AiC riffs are seriously badass.
Sloan Guitar right
Absolutely
A video needs to made to apologize to his royal highness Mark Knopler for ranking him 6/10.
Cameron Lee how 'bout Root only a 4?
As much as I want to be mad about some ratings, this video definitely gives us a look into your music taste. It’s cool to know who your inspirations are.
He said that he probably wouldn't recognize Buckethead's playing if he heard it. That's amazing to me because Buckethead has a very distinct style and sound.
Dimebag Darrell is one of Metal's greatest riff machines.
Jerry Cantrell is a 10. You can't fault him. He's the epitome of memorable. Obviously you're not an Alice In Chains fan
Leo B Nah he is lauded among notable guitar players as an iconic influence, not just me.
Leo B okay troll.
Man in the box, rooster anyone?
Man in the box, Rooster, Would Them bones, No excuses. Fuck off
Leo B man in the box solo. All im gunna say. Also would?
Leo B bro what are you even talking about they had one of the greatest rock voices of all time fronting the band with one of the meanest guitar tones and riffs anyone had heard at that time
How didn’t people give photos of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Joe Satriani and Marty Friedman?
Like how! There are so many more amazing guitarists missing!
HENDRIX would be a 1000000000000/10 Hendrix is always #1 as a hendrix fanatic and I mainly only play hendrix and without hendrix i would have never picked up a guitar.. with that being said I like seeing other guitarist getting talked about I love all guitar players if ur picking up an instrument and having fun that's all that matters. but its cool seeing guitarist that we don't talk much about.
I think you shouldn't have rated guitarists you're not familiar with
Lee Anderton - 7/10
Buckethead - 7/10
k. I'm out.
adam cunningham it’s in different styles: that’s the thing
adam cunningham it’s his opinion he may not like bucket head as much as you
Life isnt fair
adam cunningham he got a lot less giving as the video went on he was being less critical at the beginning I was triggered at the amount of guitarists that were only as good as Lee
Don’t forget.
Lee Anderton 7/10
Slash 7/10
ROFL!!!!!
I know this is subjective and all that, but I think even Lee Andertons would be offended if he knew he was being ranked higher than Mark Knopfler by someone
Luis 77 The hilarious thing is that in his interview with Steve Vai Lee specifically dropped Knopfler’s name as one of his guitar heroes!
Exactly on point Luis...
If u ever get a chance to hear TWRP or NSP with TWRP, i highly recommend. Lord Phobos is actually a pretty solid guitarist.
I agree, TWRP is really damn good with NSP and his playing on _Under the Covers_ is insane
Phobos is like a more proficient guitarist than I realized at first , dude can shred clean. Watch his livestreams
Thanks! I have a few new folks to listen to now.
This was a bad idea lol
fazeel ashraf it really doesn't seem like Tyler, rating other guitarists in such a way.
No doubt, this channel has a lot of great videos this is not one of them. I stopped watching after a couple of legends were given mediocre scores. Alex Lifeson and David Gilmour receives eights and whats the deal with Jerry Cantrell getting a 6? I see in the comments that Mark Knopler also has a 6, sultans of swing alone is enough for a higher score.. Maybe not really a good idea to score guitarists, if you don't really know their catalog. BTW, I wonder if Steve Morse on this list, if so what did he score.? If SRV is a 10 then Steve Morse is a 100, and I love SRV.
Assuming this list is about players who are versatile innovators , Lifeson deserves a 9. I am starting to believe that the opinionated scores given are intentionally low. When a versatile and outstanding player such as Mark Knopler receive a low score maybe to create controversy and more views!
Lifeson may not be a fast mechanical player. But, he definitely, has taste, original style, and very obvious technical amplitude! Seriously, if anyone has done their homework they would know that many guitar masters ( I.E. Petrucci) respect Lifesons work. Alex is great with his tasty chordal voicing s and fits perfectly with one of the the greatest rhythm sections on the planet! According to Geddy Lee, Lifeson always comes up with something amazing on the fly. Usually, when they are writing some of the most amazing songs ever recorded. Who hasn't heard of Rush? Morse not being on this list is a travesty, he invented all of the technical playing styles that players such as Petrucci cut their teeth on.------ Steve Morse equals God level.
"this is my longest video ever"

_shit this vid is like 37 minutes_
*sits back *
Tjarda Rosendaal my thoughts exactly
I’m way too late to this but this made me fall asleep, which is amazing bc i havent been able to sleep during this corona sheisse
Love your score for the first rated guitarist. You are spot on about why the guy deserves at least a 1.0 . :-)
Myles Kennedy does most of the emotional solos and difficult rythm parts. He did the intro to Cry of Achilles, the solo at the beginning of Show me a Leader.
Don't forget the first solo of Blackbird. One of the most intensely emotional solos of modern rock.
Sean WINK
If Myles is worth 6, Mark is worth 0
6/10 is a good score for him but mark deserved more than 7
He hasn't played much of lead guitar until AB3. But his guitar work on Fortress and The Last Hero is out of this world!
@@mishkatrahman20 the most intensely emotional solos of modern rock even if we are talking myles it is Love can only heal
I see petrucci 11/10. I click
acc 320 saw*
Felipe Cuello *see
Same
he deserves it to be honest. who the fuck else could have gotten it ?
Whats the point of a rating system if you just break it
Honestly I like your interviews with individual artists. I forget what the series is called. Loved all of them, Petrucci and St. Vincent especially memorable.
I'm not on twitter, I started to follow your channel recently AND I'm two years late with this video, but I would have sent Joe Duplantier and Christian Andreu on that post. They're the guitarists of the band Gojira and they're (I mean the whole band now) SO AWESOME!
Mark knopfler 6/10 Nooooo
Ed Barnes Guitar 0:01
Disgraceful
I know it's just for fun but it still stings :'(
Gilmour and Buckethead are way more melodic, superior and creative than most of them.
true man vert true
Lee Anderton is a fantastic blues player. His phrasing and melodic choices are excellent. He may not be the most technically proficient but he can really move you with his playing.
Cantrell no memorable riffs? Them Bones, Man in the box, Grind, Would?, best grunge guitarist by far.
Factual. This guy is amusing
How to trigger a John Mayer fanboy:
Lee Anderton: 7/10
John Mayer: 8/10
DA BASEGREY I'm TRIGGERED
DA BASEGREY Better yet all the sudden Mark Knopfler fans. REEEEEEE MUH SULTANS OF SWING. Jesus its an opinion, I thought Dimebag should have been higher but Im not bitching about it in every fucking post.
DA BASEGREY Lee just holds back, watch his gibson les Paul junior 2011 video
john who???
I go to school with your cousin rylie. Do you know him? Just making sure he's not lying
Every player is unique in his own way!💗
You cant expect Clapton to play like Petrucci & Petrucci to play like Clapton!
Thanks..nice to see a good summarization of the scene and see some players I hadn't heard of . Its all subjective as you pointed out...I might have given Mark Knopler another point or two...held his own playing with great Chet Atkins. And who cant hum the guitar rythm and lead he plays on "Money for Nothing "
Thanks ..I'd watch part 2 just to see your presentation..
David Gilmour , 8/10?
Par2 Mudau David Gilmour, 8/10.
Par2 Mudau cant be real.
10/10 for me!
Wow fake fan. 13/10 from me. /s
7/10
I like how you look at things. You seem primarily interested in tackling this from the angle of "Who did it the best" without something less important like "Who done it first." Good job!
"I don't recall as many memorable riffs coming out of him"
He said that about Jerry Cantrell, couldn't you have thought of a better way to offend me 😑.
Ya, that was a bummer. My personal top memorable JC riffs:
Anger rising
It ain't like that
Them bones
Grind
Rain when I die
Put you down
Dam that river
Sunshine
We die young
Heaven beside you
Dirt
I actually think Tyler barely knows AIC songs tho, so that explains why he probably doesn't recall any of these besides Them bones
he is the riff god lmao
Randy Rhoads got 10/10... that’s what I’m talking about bro!!
You really need hear the sound of Dire Straits with Mark Knopfler on guitar, he's a master of fingerstyle.
7 out of 10 for Buckethead? Are you kidding me? I gave him 10 out of 10. This guy is truly insane.
Myanmar Media Light hell fucking Yeah at the start of the vid he said their creativity and shit and buckethead can do anything on guitar and plays so many styles and makes amazing sounds with it and i could reconize buckethead a mile away
probably 3 miles. Big B is ascendant
Ye that was a disappointment, he should try listening to more bucket there's some absolutely unspeakably beautiful songs with low views and his technical mastery probably could barely be improved upon
00:01
yeah but he's also very static and boring. yes technical and fun for a while tough.
man in the box, we die young, them bones, dirt, get born again, rooster, what the hell have i, grind, nutshell, again, brother, no excuses, i can’t remember, love hate love, rain when i die, god am, sludge factory, dam that river all of these cantrell riffs are better than anything mccready and especially cobain have ever done, kim thayil/chris cornell and jerry cantrell are the best guitarists from the grunge scene and not taking anything away from kurt and mike
I said the same thing. To put cobain above jerry from a guitarist standpoint is pure lunacy. But hey this guy put mark Tremonti above mark knophler.....he lost major points there.
He truly pissed me off with that rating and explanation.
jerry cantrell is riff fucking god
I’d like to see you rip through the Aero Zeppelin guitar solo if you think Kurt Cobain isn’t that good.
The love, hate, love solo is one of my all time favorites. Jerry is 10x better than cobain.
Larry LaLonde of primus is a super underrated guitar player. The reason for this is he is often overshadowed by their bass driven sound and of course les claypool’s huge stage persona. Damned blue collar tweekers show his creative use of natural and pinch harmonics.
It's crazy too because they way that band is almost everything he plays is a lead and fill parts because Les is the driving sound. I would love to see someone dissect Primus isolated guitar parts.
It's cool to note he was trained by Joe Satriani.
On Tales from the Punchbowl Les takes more of a back seat and gives Larry more of a chance to shine.
I'm not bashing your opinion or bashing you, but, being a professional guitar player, how could you give Mark Knopfler a 6? I mean, Chet Atkins invited him to make a record. I'm not saying your opinion is wrong because you're right, music is completely subjective, but I'd love to know the reasoning behind this.
JustForFunMan he only knows sultans of swing
noineiku I'm still confident the creator of Sultans of Swing deserves higher than a 6
don't get me wrong i completely agree and in my opinion he shouldn't have even rated guitar players based on their looks just because he didn't know them.
JustForFunMan I'll tell you Tyler's reasoning: he's an idiot.
I think Jerry Cantrell should have been higher personally, mainly because I am a die hard AIC fan, and I grew up around them, but he wrote songs like Love Hate Love and Would, Man In the Box, Angry Chair, I could go one and on. But like you said he is more of a song writer, but a freaking good one.
Was waiting for this comment.
Layne actually wrote the guitar parts to angry chair. I'm pretty sure the only part Jerry wrote was the solo which is fucking amazing. Layne should have picked up the guitar more often.
My main cinch is that he said he didn’t have a lot of memorable riffs when he wrote greats ones like in sunshine, we die young, and almost any song on facelift
Gavin Griffitt Rotten Apple alone is awesome. Not just with AIC, Cantrell even does better work on his solo albums.
If I remember correctly, the story of Tony Iommi's finger caps was that he used to hold a day job in a factory. The day he got the news that Black Sabbath was signed, he got excited and careless around a shearing machine, and it chopped off his fingertips. The finger caps were only half of his solution to playing again, the other being that SG. With the caps on, he couldn't bend as far as he used to, so he needed to maximize his advantages by looking for something both easy to play, and could hold a flat tuning really well, and the SG absolutely delivered, while ending up being a major contributor to that notoriously heavy sound. I could be off on the details, but that's the story as I remember hearing it on some music documentary years ago :P
Part 2 PLEASE!
I stopped watching this video after Mark knopfler gettting 6/10
same here bro.
Hey wheres The Dooo
cmon guys
Tee hes shit
Admiral Ackbar better than you
Ghostkiller007 Bruh you sure?
Dude he's just a hipster who can shred
The Dooo is really good
Like, the overhand tapping thing he's done is crazy
Too bad he doesn't have a head
“Technicality, Creativity, and has their own voice”
Alex Lifeson fits 10/10
good list, a lot of guitarrists but what about hendrix? (probably 11/10) and malmsteen? clapton? blackmore?
What the hell, Jerry only got a 6?
He deserves at least 8
I know right! Jerry gets a 9 from me. He is such an amazing songwriter and also writes amazing riffs. Simple doesn't always mean bad (when soloing). Jerry had fucking soul! That's what matters!
His solos might sound simple, but try playing them yourself. Crazy some of the stuff he does. I mean it's still simple, but to sound the way he does it is not an easy task.
Then the fact he starts to say that Cobain was a tier above...(if you don't know wtf you're talking about, why pretend you do? you just look like an idiot) Kurt Cobain was not much more than a mediocre guitar player. Fantastic Artist, Average guitarist.
Leo B fuck off, fuckface!
Dimebag
8/10
Wat
Jacob Starnes dimebag is overrated to be honest
Jacob Starnes Already too much
5/10 if still alive
dab
Jacob Starnes i love pantera but he's more 6/7 out of 10
Tony Iommi founded a genre. Still got 8/10. XD
Iommi inspired a lot of guys on this list and was the riff master….this dude is way off
I would put Jerry Cantrell over all the other grunge guys.
Preach
