  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom came out May 12, 2023 and now no one knows what's next for Zelda games! In this video, Parker looks at every reasonable option for what new Zelda games, Zelda shows or Zelda movies could come to the Nintendo Switch or Zelda games on Nintendo's next generation console after Tears of the Kingdom! Could Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD come to the Nintendo Switch as a double pack? Could a new 2D Zelda game come? What does 3D zelda look like after Tears of the Kingdom? Let's talk about it!

    I hope the next open world Zelda will take place in lands beyond Hyrule, and is about collecting the triforce to stop a new evil. Since ToTK felt like a realization of Skyward Sword’s vision, I hope the next Zelda realizes Windwaker’s vision of sailing a vast ocean of enormous islands.

      Yeah I agree! I would love a Zelda game with an entirely different art style and a focus on the triforce because, narratively, it hasn't shown up much in the most recent games (Totk and Botw)

      @iantaakalla8180 Před 11 měsíci +1

      The funny thing is that up until the actual open-world Zelda’s (meaning Zelda 1 does not count), the Triforce was taken to be a necessary component of a Zelda game that was mainstream and did not have Vaati as a main villain.

      But there's still 3/4 of the continent to explore. They sketched the rest in on BotW, added way more detail to those unplayable areas in TotK. I wanna see that explored before sailing out to find new lands.

      I think it'd be cool to have a massive landmass of Termina, Holodrum, Labrynna, and Great Fish Island. Have Termina in the middle, Holodrum in the south, Labrynna in the North, and GFI in the West. Maybe some other desert-y land in the East. Does it make sense lore-wise? Probably not. Has that ever stopped them before? Definitely not.

    • @Descriptor413
      @Descriptor413 Před 11 měsíci +7

      I will say, I was surprised to find map fatigue to be less of a problem than I expected it would be in TotK. But I think that's because the way you traverse it is very different. In BotW, exploring the map was generally part of the challenge, with it not always being straightforward how to get around. In TotK, by comparison, you're mostly just flying around to get to new areas, which really just speeds up getting to all the new content. There's much less ground exploration because it's so easy to get around. I barely even use my horse anymore. Plus, the Depths do add back some of that ground exploration if you still wanted that.
      But yeah, they really need a new map for the next one to keep it fresh.

    I would love a TOTK but from Zelda’s perspective. Imagine her exploring ancient Hyrule before it was destroyed by the demon king! Working with Misko to make armor and hide it for Link in the future. There could be moments of Ganondorf being an ally that hasn’t betrayed King Rauru yet or reawakening sages to help fight Ganandorf after he betrays. (It's not like the original Four Swords is even a big game at all and it was a base for Minish Cap after all, with Minish Cap basically being a Four Swords prequel, and plus Grezzo worked on Four Swords Anniversary Edition before, so they already have experience with that game)
      I'm not sure how Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks would work since they rely on the DS touchscreen for literally everything, but I think a reimagined remake where things are similar but changed around and expanded to fit better as a full 2D Zelda game with a traditional control sceme would be really cool! I haven't ever got very far in Phantom Hourglass, but the idea of a ALBW style 2D Wind Waker sequel without any touchscreen gimmicks and just Wind Waker sailing and exploration in a 2D Zelda game would be amazing!

I think part of the reason they've made such a drastic change to the character design with the lack of a green tunic, and the placement and world of botw and totk being very disconnected from the rest of the series says that it may be a soft reboot of some kind at least. To answer the question, without spoilers, if the end of TOTK ends things conclusively. Yes and no. It is conclusive enough that it could be the end of the story for these characters. But I really hope it isn't.
    They have a lot they could do with the setting as it is right now, there are surprisingly lots of places to expand the game and still use the same characters. And the characters they have are great. What I'd like is a more story focused third game. More story focused on the main cast and following through with all the development they've put into the characters.
    There are also, lots of big questions left unanswered that are ripe for an expansion or full blown sequel.
    So yeah, it's conclusive, and they could do more. Personally, I want a third game. And I want more character interaction in it.

Even the fact that the construction company is leaving caches of materials everywhere makes me picture the next game having little villages scattered all around Hyrule, and a standard mode of transportation leading between them all would be perfect. I wouldn't even mind the topography remaining mostly the same, because it would add replay value to the two previous titles, almost like watching through captured moments of a land's history as it grows. Oooh, could you imagine a steampunk Legend of Zelda? They could even keep the floating islands, (if they don't fall or disappear somehow at the end of ToTK, I haven't finished yet.) and you could use an airship to travel between them!

    I’d love to see the next 3D Zelda be a spiritual successor of Wind Waker. Give us a reasonably large ocean to explore. The boat could double a a submarine for under water exploration. Would be cool is the Zora city was actually under water for a change.

How is all of that so barren and untouched after the kingdom has been around for 10,000 plus years? I would have rather Hyrule just be an island at that point. Hell they still did nothing with Mount Agaat. Wtf

    If they were quality testing TOTK for a whole year then that means they’re already a year into the development of the new zelda. There’s also definitely gonna be a new remake or new 2D game and one or two remasters. If they keep not releasing the WW/TP remasters then one of those games will be undergoing a remake right now and my money would be on Twilight Princess.

    I think that after TOTK, there will be some kind of remake or spin-off; but after that, I think the formula will just be tweaked/perfected. Even if TOTK's abilities give you incredible freedom, it has pretty much the same formula as BOTW... ¿What's there to tweak? Item-variety, dungeon complexity, etc...
    So pretty much... After some kind of remake/spin-off, another game in the lines of BOTW.

    I want the next 3D game to be a linear open world game. In other words, a smaller Hyrule (like BotW and TotW’s surface cut in half) that opens up as you complete the story. Think TotK when you first descend to the surface. It allows the developers to tell a story and have played follow it while giving them the freedom to explore the world. Also, it makes the world less overwhelming.

    I think what they should do. Next is still an explanation on the depths maybe in a different art style maybe down the road or even in the past I think the best they could do is explore the concept I mean what exactly are we looking at a whole New World or the dark world or a fallen Lowrule, Lowrule, low rule maybe you have this new rule you have this new concept I don’t know how far you were in the game that’s in a U got a find out about a land beneath Hyrule that is basically a shadow with certain different elements. For instance, the goddess statues that are in Hyrule has counterparts called the Burgener statues. Maybe this land is a conquered land, where there once stood a hero of princess in an antagonist, who, eventually one wiping out life in this antagonistic foolishness and maybe this happened thousands of years ago, before was established. A haunted. Domain full of spirits spirits of soldiers of lost souls where the king of Hyrule decided to plan a mining operation insid constructed beans down to mine after the remnants of life ceased to be perhaps him up for thinking any thoughts

    I'm hoping for a larger world beyond the old kingdom. Zelda 2 already laid groundwork for larger continents and other islands and continents. BotW/TotK show lands that are unreachable. Holodrum and Labrynna are still canonical, but are they reachable by travel, or only through the Triforce? Are they panda that exist within the Triforce, or did the Triforce send Link to those lands?
    What about time travel, or parallel dimensions again, but in 3D? OoT showed it is doable.
    TotK/BotW showed significant upgrades to tools and abilities are obtainable in an open order, but I'd like to see the old tool belt/inventory system reinstated with the recent improvements in mind.
    I love the cooking and crafting of TotK, and I don't want that to be missing in future games, but they'll have to invent new ways for Link to craft and build.

    The next 3d game will be set in the same iteration of Hyrule as BotW/TotK, maybe with the same Link or maybe like a couple hundred years later.
    It'll be set mostly on the rest of the continent though. In BotW you can break out of the map and see they sketched in a whole continent of which the playable part is only 1/4. In TotK those non playable parts of the map have way more detail. I don't think they'll leave all that work just to be wallpaper.
    TotK dlc 1 late 2023 (QoL stuff, Cave of Ordeals type thing, Master mode), dlc 2 early 2024 (extra story stuff, maybe some new items to build with, dungeon and/or some shrines).
    WWHD port to Switch 2024.
    Spin off game mid 2025 on Switch (think crossbow training or TP Picross for scale).
    Grezzo original 2d game 2026 Switch 2.
    OoT Remake late 2028 Switch 2.
    BotW 3 early to mid 2030 Switch 2.

    "Games in the '80s weren't very good." That's lunacy. Of course there were bad games, there is now too. But there's so many masterpiece level games of that era, whether it's Super Mario Bros. 3 (came out in Japan in 1988), Metroid, Contra, Castlevania III, a slew of truly stellar arcade games, The Oregon Trail, Prince of Persia, Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?, Tetris, Super Mario Bros., and the first Zelda game.

  • @pixelpuppy
    @pixelpuppy Před 11 měsíci

    BotW and TotK are in the exact same place Nintendo found Ocarina and Majora's Mask to be - stellar games that are hard to top, leading to lower and lower sales for each subsequent Zelda game until something absolutely drastic like Twilight Princess came along. The Metroid series is still trying to recover from a stellar trilogy. Nintendo is super afraid to release Metroid Prime 4, because a lot is at stake.
    I think Nintendo knows/remembers this. When BotW topped charts, it was an "oh shit" moment. How do we top that? That's probably why TotK is a direct sequel with many of the same base gameplay mechanics.
    Remakes will likely be a good "stall tactic" for a while for Nintendo, but they'll really have to come up with something incredible so that they don't drive the franchise to the brink of death like they did before.

    I think a future zelda game be modeled after MM, but not a “majora mask” specific, just use the mechanics. Make the game a 7 day time cycle. This time you have 7 days to save hyrule from a ganon that is active inthe game world
