- Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant gives us a "walkaround" of the new Sons of Liberty Gun Works AR-15 lower receiver developed in collaboration with Forward Controls Design. The clean exterior and flowing contours of the stripped receiver itself indicate that it is not your standard mil-spec receiver. The hardcoat anodizing is, however, is done to true U.S. military specifications for exceptional durability. The Forward Controls Design ambidextrous bolt release and ambi mag release have the trademark FCD dimpled contact surfaces.
SOLGW's ambi safety selector has swappable short and long levers, with a short-and-sweet 45-degree throw. That selector is easy to reach from the B5 System pistol grip. Moving farther back, we have the SOLGW A5 receiver extension (aka, buffer tube) with the Vltor A5 buffer system inside. The tube is not shifting because it's anchored by the Forward Controls Design endplate and castle nut. That castle nut is staked not once, not twice, but THREE times so it's not moving. The trigger is SOLGW's ultra-reliable enhanced mil-spec trigger.

I’m pretty sure these are sourced from the same place as WLA’s ambi, which is $100+ cheaper for the stripped receiver with no roll mark. The only contribution FCD made was the trigger guard and dimples.
This is the perfect lower for my Bear Creek Arsenal 2.5 inch 458 RUM mag upper

Got my Billet upper and lower combo directly from SOLGW for under $500. Built quality is extremely impressive, its my Gucci AR.
For the price of that stripped lower, there should be an ambi mag release built into the lower. The Cross Machine and Tool UHP ambi lower is nicer and more equipped as a premium billet ambidextrous lower receiver

900 dollars for this is crazy. You can get an Aero Precision lower throw a Magpul BAD lever on it and a Radian safety and still save 500 dollars.

Silly me just got the stripped receiver, because CA and we need to run the BS fin grips but half the fun is sourcing parts and assembly. When I picked it up, the associate at the shop was impressed (as was I)...it also helped that he was also a fan of FCD.
Issue I'm having is that the grip doesn't sit flush and square on the lower. I also tried a Magpul MIAD and had the same issue; it appears that there's too much material on the beaver tail but careful filing with an emery board hasn't helped.

Idk about the SOLGW warranty... I had their BCG, the gas rings failed me extremely early (the gun would shoot fine, but the gas rings couldnt hold up the weight of the bolt carrier when placed on the face of the bolt), well under 500 rnds. I contacted their customer service through email & never received a reply. Its just gas rings & ive got spares, but it definitely affected my impression of them / trust in them.
Ordered one Friday, stoked to try it!

The Brownells ad says the only things missing are the trigger and butt stock (which don't cost an extra $555), yet when I look at the accompanying photo I do not see any ambidextrous parts and it appears more parts are missing than just the trigger and stock. Is this where you got the $900 figure? If so, I'm surprised at Brownells. I've never known them to mislead their customers.

Caleb, it's a 50 deg selector not 45 deg, offers better drop protection from AD's. the pins are 40 thousand longer to make it a little easier to push them out.

I built a complete Radian lower with a Geissele SD3G and VLTOR A5 system for around 750. I guess 900 comes with the SOLGW lifetime warranty.

I have the stripped version. Haven’t started building it but have been accumulating all the FCG parts. Pricing it out with what I need and what I’ve spent I don’t think 900 ain’t so bad considering it comes built for you. Yes, you’re paying a premium for name but it also looks super nice.

Can you use ambi bolt release to lock bolt open? I've found that feature of pdq lever more useful than dropping the bolt.

No, only release. The only other manufacturer that does that is MVB which Dirty Bird also uses.
You can lock bolt back with LWRC and LMT Mars-L lower

Sorry 900$ is very hard to explain when looking at that lower . I just got an entire bcm lower with the new trigger pack and mod0 stock for 350 non blem. I ordered the fcd bolt catch and I’m still under 450 .
