Saw Kool Keith perform 20 years ago and instead of throwing out CDs and T-shirt’s to the crowd he threw out juice boxes, chicken wings (in plastic sandwich bags) and porno mags. I’ll never forget that.

I don't know who did this documentary. I appreciate the documentation of putting together a body of work that presents to us one of the best under appreciated MCs, and unique social personalities of all time. Before there was a DOOM or before there were OUTKASTs there was KOOL KEITH. For me he ranks as one of the TOP 10 MCs of ALL TIME!!! Ahead of his TIME a true ORIGINATOR.. Never DUPLICATOR!!

I was in Santa Barbara Ca. mid 90’s, and Tim Dog was supposed to perform and the money wasn’t right or some shit, so Tim dog didn’t go on… So Kieth showed up with a Cholo, and Got on stage and Rhymed to a beat for about 5 minutes. Well worth the ticket price.

KOOL KEITH is the man! He and Ced Gee made UltraMagnetic MC's become worldwide to this day. Most Definitely influenced many MCs. His style is legendary. Me and Premier were like dope fiends when it came to Ultra. He even sought out the studio where they recorded the first Ultra album and made his first Gang Starr album there as well.

Talking about KRS is tricky. You have to admit that he's one of the orginators of hip hop. With that, and where the scene was at the time, being humble wasn't the goal. "The Bridge is Over" might not be the first dis rap ever, but it's certainly one of the best of the time.
Add into that what Kris has done for hip hop and consciousness of the form since then and you can see how he might have the ego he does.
But I agree, Kool Keith is a much more down to earth dude. And once you lock into what he's doing and understand it, you see how he elevated the artform to another level.
Both have their place. And both of their ways of viewing the world and describing it are equally fucking perfect.

There's a cabaret singer I love. Her name is Blossom Dearie. I read in her liner notes that she is an artist that doesn't inspire much middle ground opinion. I believe this about KK. You either love him or you hate him....I subscribe to the former.
I've known Keith aka Poppa Large for nearly 30 yrs... promoted & dist. many of his solo joints like "Sex Styles" & I was in San Fran. working for City Hall Dist. and met w/Kut Kurt, Q-Bert & Automator during the "Dr. Octagon" sessions... EPIC Recording (easily TOP 10 lyrics for ANY RAP concept album... Keith INVENTED so many styles; Abstract Funk w/Ultra Mags, Pornorap "Sex Styles", Impersario Flow ala Black Elvis) and he wrote ALL those lyrics like "BLUE FLOWERS" in a couple days. ILL Freestyler... and freak for the P! When I visited him w/Kut @ his Hollywood condo... he had 33 boxes of cereal, gallons of milk & his bathroom shower had dozens of used condoms stuck to walls, like gum under school desks!
