I met Paul C from being invited to my high school friends Simply Too Positive Mc's 1212 studio session when I was a part of a group called Top Priority. He made hip hop classics that transcended time.
I know you from "let the homicides begin" or something like that... it was your album with Aaron Dee
BQ in full effect in case I remember correctly.... anyway I used to have that OG LP back in the days.... but once my did want to devorce me I had all of a sudden a logistical problem with stalling my records.... shit went bad at that time.
I remember the McKasty family. My uncle Robert Wright aka Bobby was a producer and my mom Debra used to hang down there when he was doing his thing just sitting in. We lived right up the street. I was young but I remember the record collection, I remember seeing him on his mixer, i remember one night seeing Rakims white Acura legend. His mom was so nice and it was a sad sad day when he was taken from us. It shook us all up and changed the whole dynamics of the neighborhood. Rip Paul C
Thank you for your kind spirit and your contribution to the hip hop community!!
Paul C's memory and legacy should be recognized, taught and cherished within the Hip-Hop community. His presence is sorely missed and I honestly believe he would be iconic even in mainstream if he were still here today. He was around before the digital technology we have today. Could anyone imagine where he would be? Miles ahead of the game just as he always were. He's someone I always wish I could have met. I just know we would have vibed together. Thanks to CJ Moore, Mikey D, Extra P, Pharoahe, Ced Gee, Moe Love, O.C, Jeru, Rakim, Casanova Rud and others who shared memories and are keeping Paul C's memory and legacy alive. He will never be forgotten
My Dude For Life!!!!! Forever a part of me!! Salute and Love!!
Put together well
My memory of Paul was when me and Mikey were up at 1212 and played the track we did with Elai Tubo....let's just say he wasn't feeling it..Lol
wow!!!! Mikey D, i have a couple of your classic 12 inches i need you to autograph for me,Get at me

We lost Paul C 25 yrs ago today.
RIP Paul C
...to the organisms..."
RIP PAUL C lost but never forgotten.
@@terrytees who killed him?
Paul was a genius. Period.
The realest talk about rap production I've ever heard.
So tragic what happened to PAUL C...REST IN POWER and thank you for everything you did for HIP-HOP Music especially my area.
documentary is one of the best i have ever seen
RIP to Paul C . Had the pleasure of meeting him shortly before he died and RIP to Dave Funkenklien also he introduced me to Paul
Dude needs to get an Unsung episode!!
Hip hop was blessed by him...rest in power Paul C...
This Doc is the most deepest piece of work I have ever seen!!!
All respect due to Paul C !!!!!!
#Tyrell Carter
Paul C to the organism...
I walk past that building every single day and I had no idea I was walking past history. Amazing.
I used hang out with Paul C..in his house and garage for many years. He was just starting out as a musician and producer. I went on to work with Robert Wright at Sleeping Bag Records. I hadnt seen Paul for 3 years...however, when I came back to Rosedale he was a star. It blew me away he worked very hard on his craft..one of the nicest people I have ever known. His brother Timmy is the reason why I became a bass player and producer..I lived Paul.
what a horrible tragedy and a waste of talent. everybody in the docu looks devastated too. i doubt if he death was music related because he was not an mc to make a diss record and cats aren't really showing up in yoru bedroom to give you head shot over a beat. this had to be over money or drugs or woman related even though he was married. and you know the 70's and 80's drugs were on the seen heavliy and so was murder and usually people don't catch a head shot over trees. if it was hate thats even worse, "i will kill you because you make hot beats" . if you go through that door you could even say the klan did it because he liked hip hop.
@@djkingpersia The person that killed him most likely knew him and worked with him before. The killer is someone that everyone knew. His death is literally a cold case files episode.
@@deepstate3358 could have been a debt thing that happens too often as well
Paul didn't live in Rosedale. He lived in the Springfield Gardens section of Queens which by the mid seventies was predominantly Black. 227th St and 147 th Avenue is not in Rosedale.
Paul C was a great man- yeah very cool you made this- He was very important, very very cool.
No dude guy's called PRITT KALSI. No question Paul's underrated and very important.
terrytees
I know- you misunderstood, with you i ment Pritt. no worries
I co sign to this comment.
Listening to those interviews from The Combat Jack Show really brought me here. Every time Combat has rappers from the 80's they always mention Paul C. Its crazy how much dope shit Paul C was involved with in such a short time.
Large Professor on Drums and Paul C on Bass. I'd love to hear those tapes.
If he had lived, I feel hip hop would be a little different today. Who knows how high he would have risen.....Greatness gone.....smh
Thank you for posting this doc.
A long time comin'.
RIP to the one and only Paul C.
Changed my life. Rip Paul C.
Paul C. Straight Genius! Gone way too soon.
Incredible piece, thank you for posting this; hiphop elemental. RIP Paul C! Much Respect! I did not know but growing in JamRocUSA I would past by that studio all my life and here ill sounds.. so interesting that two incredible music Icons were murdered Paul C and JMJ.. rip to them , they live on..
Great Cat. He was sick on the SP1200!!!! Had a chance to work with him wen we did our cuts on the Supertronics Lable "Live" And "Louder"
Sport "G"
Sport "G" And Mastermind
Thx for upload..Deep documentary.. R.I.P Paul C
Who did it ??? Baddest Producer Ever. Golden Era for ever.
Paul C - 360 Degrees 'Years To Build/Pelon' anotha dope production.
Than you for the wonderful memories all of you, about The Late and Great Mr. Paul Mckasty. You are gone but not forgotten thankyou for your contribution to Hip Hop!!! We love you man.
Thanks for doing this.....great work. R.I.P. Paul C
Poppa Large was my fav Paul C track...
Eff Dinero Paul passed three years before that track was even released.Ced and Keith are credited as the producers of the album version of "Poppa Large" and the Beatminerz are credited with the remix.
thirdshift47 Ced did do the album version but those in the know know Paul did the remix, why Beatminerz got credited for the remix is beyond me! Paul's signature drum roll & swing are all over that track, just listen to Ultramagnetic's Give The Drummer Some which he was credited for you hear all his staccato snares & heavy kick drums. Beatminerz Blackmoon stuff had not 1 single track like that...
Eff Dinero
I'm not saying you're incorrect;I'm just speaking with respect to who was credited officially and when the joint was released.
Of course that doesn't mean that Paul couldn't have produced it.
You make some outstanding points. But I was wondering how you received verification of that info, aside from analyzing beats.
Eff Dinero I don't think thats right, the roll on poppa large is just the break loop BTW. Pretty sure Keith covers who produced it in this recent interview the issue in this interview czcams.com/video/M1hVCS1kFUM/video.htmlh8m48s
thirdshift47 Your right tho, It's clearly the beatminerz. Keith was interviewed on the combat jack show, it was upload to youtube on the 3rd of march and almost 2hours long. A good listen IMO. Paul had passed long since that LP and his drum roll style is programmed but the roll on poppa large is clearly just a break.
PAUL C REST IN PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...a piece of the soundtracks of my life growing up in NYC..
RIP Paul C...Float on!
great documentary.a lot i didn't know about the man.he had his hands on a lot of classic shit.large pro speaks of this man in great respect as did rakim, jeru the damaja.fucked up dude killed him in his sleep.still an unsolved murder.R.I.P.PAUL C
I wish this story could be a movie.
Very underrated producer
So much respect for an exceptional artist. I wrote a long thought out piece in appreciation for Paul and this documentary on both versions, somehow both vanished probably because of stupid account issues. maybe I will write it again. thanks for the upload.
World supreme hip-hip the Freshco & Miz story... A must see!
I sure wish they would have expounded on some theories about who killed him.
Same tbh
@@blackdragon6 : I heard it was Supe and/or Rud. I hope not because I really loves their first LP.
RIP Paul C
A section of the new HIP HOP Museum should be dedicated to Paul C, definitely.
A jealous/hater low life, most likely, ended this talented man’s life.
SAD = Satan Among Dreamers.
Good Documentary. Glad to learn about the pioneers of the culture.
RIP to the legendary Paul C.
am so happy to see this film made
Paul C .. Dang R.I.P.
2:15 "you got good lighting on it?" "yeah" LOL
how come large pro aint in this documentary after all paul c was his mentor???!!!
The million dollar question.
Awesome piece of hip hop history, though.
140hazz or Abner Buble
140hazz that’s correct cause I met Large P when PAUL C let him tag along to 1212 and he was like 15 or 16 and I ask Paul yo who’s that kid in 1212 with you and Paul lQQKed at me and said; “that’s my protégé - I’m a teach him how to make beats and engineer the board in 1212” .. (and that my friends is exactly what he did 🤓😎😎)
protégé; a person who is guided and supported by an older and more experienced or influential person.
"he was an aide and protégé of the MASTER PAUL C MCKASTY”
The earlier productions were my favorite ones. Sport G and Mastermind and Heartbeat Brothers and stuff like that... Swollen Pockets also in case I remenber it right back to 88 or 87
Glad to be part of the people who Paul created magic for on that sp-1200...
Great documentary of Paul_C thank you; i.would.love.to.hear.what.Large.Professor.had.to.say; #RESTINPARADISE Paul C McKasty
dope !!
Respect & peace
He did it major. Much respect due
Damn!
dOPE! R.I.P. Paul C.
Queens! Mikey D @15 min - legend. He needs a good modern producer and do an album. And come over to UK.
Yo Please check an underground joint made in 1989 --- "Sweat My Moves" Paul C Golden Age of Hip-Hop ----DNA Records....add it to your collection
Where was Extra P!!!
Big daddy magazine article on him was also impressive- rap was fresh in the 80s now it sucks very much
Love 80's hip-hop
i still use my SP-12 to this day! so many tricks
Respect
Yo Scott, same here. Gimmick Gang stand up!
Paul inspired me in 86
who killed Paul C?
RIP PAUL C
Broad Street Breakdown brought me here
His killers were never identified or apprehended and no motive came to light.
Cool. There are very few hip-hop people who I have never seen before, and Dr. Butcher was one of them! lol
I use to go to CED G house and hear about PauLC and 12/12
what happened to large pro?
so, 2 months before hes death he wanted to work exclusively with Rakim?
that must have upset some people...
HIP HOP HISTORY
I got something to contribute to this project. Hit me if you want to want to talk.
BIG respect for this project, word.
did you work with Paul?
Paul was a bassist.
Please tell me Tinard wasn't around this man. I'm just saying.....Queens' some sneaky MF's. How can he "Rest in Peace" being murdered in his sleep and it remains unsolved? Damn Paul. I really want justice for this man
Omg is his cousin a gym teacher 👨🏫 if so he was my gym teacher he looks just like dude but a little heavier ... wanted to start of football team which I signed a petition for. Ah what could've been. Rip to the genius Paul c
Wow. Not getting a much needed advance and Paul C saying that they owed studio fees for free studio time, just might be what could make someone take a dude out! Whoever did it, obviously were always freely invited to his house and knew him well enough that he would fall asleep with them there. Was that a slip?
Large pro wasn’t in this??
Well I'll be! I had no idea that Casanova Rud was half whyte! I don't see it though.
wow he was so young why did he get shot?
Because he lived in Queens.
Paul C killed in his home [Queens], JMJ killed in the studio [Queens] ...i smell extortion attempt
I smell a sacrifice.
@@tmat2024I smell a retard.
This kinda throws the idea the White people are a guest in Hip Hop out the window...
