Part 2: • Robert Bell on Jay-Z &...
Robert “Kool” Bell, founding member of Kool & The Gang, sat down for his first-ever VladTV interview, and he started off speaking about being born in Ohio and moving to Jersey City, New Jersey. He then explained that Kool & The Gang was founded in 1964 after he moved, and Robert spoke about how Jersey City was a “rough” area. From there, Robert then shared how he gave himself the “Kool” nickname, and he went on to share a story about how he adapted to his environment in Jersey City. Robert also spoke about how he got into making music, which started when he and his brother had makeshift bongos, and he then added that he later started playing guitar. This led to Robert detailing how he started a band called the “Jazziacs” with his 7 friends in 1964, which would later become “Kool & The Gang.” Robert later revealed how the group changed its name at one point because they didn’t want to make James Brown mad before claiming Kool & The Gang is the most-sampled group of all time with 1,800. - Zábava
I love how you get the legends to speak on peace and love in music it definitely is refreshing from all the death
Vlad most definitely in his bag with this one here
He been in his bag a lot lately
Not only do Kool and the Gang have classics for days. But artists have made classics sampling their music. LEGENDARY GROUP.
100% Agreed! How aren’t they in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a Crime. Put them in! R.
The bass line in the song Hollywood Swingin' was the first bass line I ever learned and played it at my HS talent show. Kool is a underrated bass player.
Yup, Hollywood Swinging, Jungle Boogie, Ladies Night, Higher Plane are some of the songs where you can really hear Kool's bass thumping!
I'm glad we have the opportunity to interview music icons from my generation. Their 1973 hit, Jungle Boogie, was my introduction to their music and it left a lasting impression on me.
Man, this is why I don't criticize Vlad. Vlad be bringing the heat man. He be getting those fire interviews that no one else does. He does the ratchet ish and the gangsters/drug dealers (which I don't care for) but hip hop legends and R&B legends, I am here for them all day long. I'm here for interviews from '90s artists and legends like these- Chaka Khan, Stephanie MIlls, Smokey Robinson, CeCe Peniston, Kool Bell, etc
Factual
Vlad has a diverse audience fersure he gets a lot of hate from his viewers, but I respect ur comment , because he does have supply us with variety so you can pick and choose.
He puts out something for everyone while all of his copycats are interviewing the same rappers he interviewed 5 years ago.
'can't get enough .. of that funky stuff' !!! ....what a great group with an amazing catalog of smash hits
Jersey City STAND UP!!! I used to hear their jam sessions on Friday nights on the Junction 💯 I probably wouldn’t remember that without this interview
summer madness is one of the greatest songs of all time. the way will smith flipped it was genius too.
Naw not really. The OG sound is like hypnotic.
The song stands on its own,
It was fine without will
@@jbjackson8889 if that's how you feel
Get down on it and Hollywood swingin too
@@AnotherblackmanOG very hypnotic
We covered Kool & the Gang, Brass Construction, BT Express, EWF or any group that had horns. This was in the 70's as high school teens after band practice. Used to drive our white band director crazy. You have to remember integration was less than 10 years old, and I was from a small town.
It's always a shock when you haven't seen legends in a long time, to realized how much they have aged. Live at PJ's has always been one my playlist.
I know. I'm a legend and I have aged badly 🤣
Good to know he's still here 👍
Vlad, you are really hitting home runs with your interviews... From Smokey to Kool, it don't get any better than that this...
Just killing the interview game. All of his copycats are still only interviewing rappers.
Their music is still refreshing.
I love this great interview with one of the best legendary founders of Kool & The Gang Robert "Kool" Bell making some of the best music in the world about sampling music for other hip hop artists Kool & The Gang songs never faded away like funk legends including The Gap Band, Sly & The Family Stone, The S.O.S., Band , Slave, Lakeside, The Ohio Players, Con Funk Shun and many more too!!! I wondered what happened to James J.T. Taylor the lead singer at the time what is he doing now!!! Thanks so much!! Great musical legends like Kool & The Gang music will always be around for years to come!!! Thank you!!! I love the 70s!!! Can you dig it!!!😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is going to be a great interview!
Public Enemy. Organized Konfusion. Gang Starr. A Tribe Called Quest. So many other Hip-Hop acts and artists sampled Kool & The Gang's songs. Their jazz songs are beyond amazing 👍
Wow. This interview was surprising. I can’t wait to see the rest.
These brothers recoreded some helluva funky songs back in the day. Classics!
My mother would always talk about Kool and the gang when I was little. This is the first time I’m seeing anything relating to the name. So apparently they made 3 of the most popular songs from my childhood, interesting.
You out your league Vlad. I pray you don’t mess this one up. This is one of the greats whoever done it.
Real music back then. 💯👊🏾
I had to check this out. One of the first artists I listened to as a kid in the early 00s. That greatest hits album really started my journey into other older music
I met Kool thru my playa potna Charles Stone. It’s always a treat when the players meet. R.I.P. Stone Kold
LEGENDS😎 We must salute and give respect to this group. Their music 🎶 is timeless and each member who play those instruments are musical geniuses. They got the right stage name because this band is KOOL. ❤😎 😅😊
100% Agreed! How they aren’t in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a Shame. Put them in! R.

My all-time favorite group.
My first concert ever in 1985 was Kool and the gang before I went to kindergarten.
Man I remember hearing Summer Madness for the first time at the barbershop shop back when Pops used to take me. That sound always stuck with me from young!
It's crazy that it's just an instrumental sound that is so addictive.
@@franklin8618 its really funny the things you remember

I was introduced to Kool and the Gang as a 8th grader during afterschool social center sock hop the song was The Funky Man and I've been a fan ever since !
Man, after I saw them on the Midnight Special I had to get their album. Light of Worlds album was something else. Historic now!
I play Summer Madness every Memorial Day.
I remember not to long ago! I went to the theater for the Kool and Gang show!
Hollywood Swinging, still relevant today as its featured in the new video game , Dead Island 2 trailer 👍
Watching this interview remind me of the book “clockers” where they said that the main protagonist Dad was a early member
I remember hearing “Raw Hamburger” when it came out and I’ve been a fan ever since!
One of my favorite groups of all time.
Vlad 🫡 for the caliber of guests interviewed on your platform.
I encourage anyone to get Kool and Gang Greatest Hits. It's a non stop party
Kool of the Gang on VLAD TV?
Let's Get Down On It. :)
Bob James is high on the list too
Lil Shawn made good use of the Too Hot sample on his song Dom Perignon
With the Biggie vocals, too. Coolio also sampled Too Hot.
LEGENDS
Le plus cool des groupes, avec ce petit truc en plus que les autres n'ont pas !👍 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Iconic group, man I'm so glad I was raised off of, great groups such as KOOL & THE GANG👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑💯
Wow finally Kool and the Gang I wanna hear everything ever story
I always felt that Parliament was the most sampled of any musical act.
James Brown is the most sampled solo artist and Kool & The Gang is the most sampled group
I had the song Too Hot on a K-Tel compilation album 40+ years ago.
I was a metalhead, but that song was cool.
Y'all got Kool Bell? Lmao ayyy
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Kool I remember The Band coming to Barbados in probably 1969 with a Gentleman from Jersey City who use to do Tours with Folks from The Neighborhood, Nice Young Ladies came on that Tour I have been a Fan since then
Also Pick up that " Le' Kool Champagne " Created by the legend himself !!! Very Refreshing if I must say so myself!
Can we say that Kool was the Godfather of funk
Not without James and George, though.
Salute to OG Kool.
This is the FOUNDATION of soul. Salute
FINALLY! VLAD gets some balance to the Summer Madness.
