It's not a makeup call it's a call. A makeup call implies that two wrongs make a right. In this situation it's not the same thing. The problem with the Bennet situation is that he pushed Coyle into Swayman. The rule is set in stone at that point. It doesn't matter if Swayman can make the save or not. It's goalie interference and also it's supposed to be a 2 minute penalty. The Heinen situation is different because he wasn't pushed in. He made a small amount of contact all by himself. In that scenario the question then becomes did Bob have a chance to reset before the shot. He clearly did. He just got beat clean. These are not the same play at all. They are different circumstances and different parts of the rule are involved because of that. The call that didn't go Boston's way was a blown call and the refs even came back saying they didn't believe the player interfered with Swayman's ability to make the save. Which shows they don't know the rule. Because that's not the rule. In this case the call was correct and to the letter of the law.

Listen, I'm a Bruins fan. I was SCREAMING about the goal in game 4 because I really believe the Bruins win that game and tie the series if that call goes the correct way. But they were both bad calls. The one against the Bruins was worse, but IF there were any consistent standard for goalie interference, they would both be no-goals. And if they had overturned the Bruins goal after allowing the Panthers, it would be seen as genuinely rigging the series and it would be all anybody talks about in the NHL world for months.

I'm not even a panthers fan but that was the softest cross check I have ever seen and everyone is complaining about that being a highway robbery. There are hundreds of crosschecks a game in front of the net and the vast majority of them are so much worse than that. If you call that goal back, any defensive player has free reign to 'interfere' with their own goalie when they feel a slight bit of contact from an offensive player, since any goal after that will be called back. I am not saying Coyle dove; he definitely didn't but he went down incredibly soft there. That was closer to a push off than a cross check.

The rules of the challenge clearly state there wasn't enough there to cause a stoppage of play as the 'handpass' didn't give bos an unfair advantage. But nevertheless, the official, after communicating with Toronto, decided to make up his own rule and reversed a good hockey goal. Took the game away from bos.....

Not quite the same degree when talking about both "non calls." In the more recent one, the Panthers defender makes (slight) contact with the Bruins attacker right as the Bruins attacker makes contact with the goalie. Attacker getting "pushed" into the goalie usually negates it as far as goalie interference calls go. It is very soft, but it's a by-the-book way to validate it (not saying they didn't let it stand as a make-up for the previous one, but this one at least has justification by the rules).
And I am not coming at this from the perspective of a fan of either team, if it were possible I'd want them to both lose 😂

And there is another way to look at it. All playoff series are called differently. Depends on the teams. Always been this way. When the ref makes the first call, letting the GI go, there is your precedent. Ok. These guys are going to give us room in the crease. Jesse said it. No conspiracy. They're being consistent . The statement goes along with that. There was jostling but he reset. So it did not interfere with the goal itself. So that is what they allow this series. You have it on paper.

It is going to come down to goaltending. These teams finished neck & neck in the regular season. A lot of guys on both teams have playoff experience. Panthers overall have better offensive talent, but defensively, Bs are better. Bs are still in desperation mode, and they will be ready for the Panthers onslot at the start of the game. If the Panthers don't score quickly, it gets harder for them because Swayman is going to be locked down, and Bs guys are lying out to block shots. They know anything can happen in a game 7.
