      I feel you ! I started young and after 7years of ice skating I was finally ready to compete, I was one of the “hope” at my club but i had to stop because the competition would have had 900€ more for the years ( almost 2000€ in total )
      I am still super sad and sensitive about ice skating but I decided to continu alone because I was already far in my lesson !

      Alice Auditore if you are self taught you should start with a toe loop then a salchow, loop, flip and lutz and learn the axel LAST.

      Donna S Or waltz jump, then toe loop, then loop, salchow, flip, lutz, THEN Axel. (The salchow could also be learned before the loop, which is personally the better way)

    • @pamelam9686
      @pamelam9686 Před 7 lety

      MistressKuroko Talk to your coach about it. If you don't have a coach I highly recommend it, cause not just it's better for competing and overall practice, but from my experience I learned some basic skating wrong and it threw me off of everything complicated. Also axels are tough and you should be having a coach not just to make sure you don't hurt yourself, but to make sure you're doing it right, and make sure don't mess up the technique. Also my coach was a great one and she taught me many things aside from skating which I love her for. If you DO have a coach talk to them about the jumps and ask them to go over all the basic jumps and everything about them to get better, which you already should've done when you first learned them.😊

    It seems the most common way skaters miss this jump (including myself) is with a forward fall or hand down on the landing. What sort of things would make these forward falls less likely?

    • @pamelam9686
      @pamelam9686 Před 7 lety +1

      Edmund Geswein there's no exact way to make them less likely. It's just better to fall forward than backwards so we learn to lean a bit more forward. But what would help is just to practice the exercises he showed about 2 gazillion times to get them perfect and then just do the Axel a lot. Practice makes progress anyways. The more you do it (as long as you're doing it correctly), the better you get.

    • @edmundgeswein
      @edmundgeswein Před 7 lety +1

      Pamela McDermott Someone at the rink noted that I was staying in a little longer than necessary. I have enough lift at this time that I don't need to be in tight all the way to the landing, so when I started checking a little earlier I had more landing control. Certainly more days on the rink are probably the only cure for inconsistency, but unfortunately skating isn't cheap. I'm still having fun, enjoying the challenge and gradually improving each time out there on the ice.

To my great disappointment there are some discrepancies between western and russian ice schools, while your technique is similar to classical ballet one.

    Hi this might not be relatable, but I do Artistic Roller Skating, and I know that Roller & Ice share a few spins and jumps. I was just wondering, I can do a 'Travelling Camel' (Twists/Free Turns in a straight direction, leading into a camel spin) and this gives the final Camel Spin momentum. I have no trouble keeping my leg stuck out in the Travelling Camel, but when I have finished, I try to do a tight back outside edge, like a 'Back Scratch Spin', and I need to do this in an Arabesque Position for it to be considered a Camel Spin, but I have trouble keeping my left leg upwards or nearly parallel to the floor. Are there any ways of improving this? Sorry about this long-winded comment, but I'm having a slight dilemma. Thank You

    • @pamelam9686
      @pamelam9686 Před 7 lety

      101 Braiding I could help you, but for the turns leading into the camel are you doing a forward or backwards camel spin? I know it might not be the exact same for roller skating but for I've skating it's not exactly advised to do a forward camel spin from turns, it doesn't work very well with the force of gravity and the turning direction including the leg you're on. If you're doing a forward camel spin I would suggest sticking to the regular entrance.

    • @pamelam9686
      @pamelam9686 Před 7 lety

      And what do mean "try to do a right outside edge"? Not exactly sure sorry😂 but some tips for keeping your leg up would be just practicing the position while skating forward, not just in the spin, holding your leg up in that position against the wall, stretching the leg, and doing leg strengthening positions for a camel, which I'm sure you could find on the Internet or something😊

    • @edmundgeswein
      @edmundgeswein Před 7 lety

      101 Braiding I used to do artistic roller skating and now I'm ice skating just for fun and learning the techniques for ice. It sounds like you're talking about a counter clockwise outer back camel out of a right foot traveling camel on roller skates. It's actually harder to have a good camel position on the traveling, so if you're doing that well, we know it's not a flexibility issue, but rather a balance\spinning issue. On roller skates it takes a good one revolution on an inside edge to get into the spotting of the outer back camel. Ice skaters seem to only do half a turn on the inside edge when they enter the spin this way. On roller skates, working on an inside forward camel (no pumping) is actually helpful for the outer back camel because that's the set up edge and the final thing before spotting the outer back. On ice it's a little different. They use more "active edges" to enter spins. Active edges are edges that are gaining speed rather than just coasting.

    • @101braiding6
      @101braiding6 Před 7 lety

      Thanks for the advice. I cringe when I see people 'pump' during camel spins. I'd rather just stick out one rotation with pumping, even if my momentum was dead, I would still hang on to the spin and show I have patience. Also, when people pump, their arms and legs move all over the place. Lucky I'm UK based, because if someone pumps during a spin over here, it's marked as a 'B' Deduction, and so they will learn from it. My travel in this space of time has actually improved a lot, but thanks tho

    • @101braiding6
      @101braiding6 Před 7 lety

      My Travel has actually improved a lot since 3 months. I went on a trip to see one of the best in our country, and they gave me a tonne of tips and it has helped. I find that a travel into a forward outside parallel spin actually helps a lot. I know a lot of people switch to a back inside camel or sit spin, but it does work. I used to do camels in dance wheels, which were much stickier to the floor, but now I have Roll Line Giotto Wheels, and bc they are lighter, I can do travels into spins now. Is the regular entrance to a forward camel from a back inside edge? Is it on ice where people do this 'regular entrance'?

    hi first two videos on the axel very helpful and have been patently waiting for part three. However I found part three , slightly disappointing and not so helpful as part 1 and 2. It needed more demonstration through the whole process, pref. in very slow motion. Some people mention a skid to get a higher jump but I don't understand that very well. I just about manage one rotation,n but have found that if I come down with my foot position turned slightly more into the correct direction (the extra half ) . The body/torso follows. (I must add, I have only practised off ice the full rotation, also next to the bar (a half axel and back spin) which seems to work, but still nervous about venturing out further, or into the middle.with nothing to grab if I wobble.
